The season has already started! Maria and Grigor have each won their first matches, Serena has done her first presser, and as I'm writing this Gael is closing out his first set in Doha, and Aga is playing Eugenie in the Hopman Cup. I love the beginning of the season.

Happy New Year everyone!
Here's hoping for great matches.
Mods, is there anything you can do about all these spam threads that have popped up lately? Thanks, I can ignore them but I would think it would turn off new people.

I've been watching Hopman Cup every day - favourite tournament of the year. Cheering on Canada of course.

I have to admit I'm rather happy that Hewitt beat Federer in that Brisbane final. Not so much regarding Roger losing but Lleyton having that type of moment in Australia.
Sooo close to have Poland win Hopman Cup. Exhibition or not, I can see Panfil at least appearing on the main tour level by the end of the year after the way he beat Raonic.
Boris Becker could not be gone from Novak's corner soon enough for me. Hopefully he won't cause too much damage to Novak's game before it inevitably blows up. But it is funny the number of players who have gone the Grand Slam Champ route in the last two months. Besides Novak and Roger, there's Nishikori/Chang, Gasquet/Bruguera, Cilic/Ivanisevic (which is actually Round 2, being a disaster once before)... and I think I'm forgetting another.

Stefan is coaching Roger? This is something I thought I would only dream about...my two absolute favorites ever...actually I'm surprised because I thought Edberg didn't like to travel outside Sweden anymore but I guess he's making an exception - I am really looking forward to seeing this. However, no offense to any Boris fans but I don't see that one working at all, Novak or otherwise. I don't think Boris is the coaching type. By the way, does anyone here watch Weather Channel in the US? They have this oddball show called Freaks of Nature and the host, from certain angles, looks just like Novak to me in his face and hair. The first time I saw the commercial I almost thought it might be him!

Roger has changed his mind and will now be playing Davis Cup. Good for him. With Stan playing the way he is, i agree with the writer that Roger might be viewing this as his best chance to hold that particular trophy. Speaking of Davis Cup, I had no idea that the US would be playing at Petco Park. That is so cool. I wish I had been aware, because that's a place I could have gotten good seats at. Lastly, Jerry Seinfeld was on Mike & Mike this morning and one of the things he was talking about was why he prefers baseball over football. His explanation made so much sense that I realized it's one of the reasons that I love tennis so much--even understanding football, the fan is not going to see exactly why a play works or doesn't work because there is just so much going on at one time. In baseball, you might not know the tiny particulars but you do see how a play develops and why it does/doesn't work. That's the same with tennis. I might not know why the players are thinking what they are thinking but I see the point progress and I see it work or not and can fathom a guess whether it will or not as it's happening. You could say the same about a lot of sports, like basketball, but i just don't understand basketball very well so while I can watch and enjoy basketball I'm not seeing as much as I do when I watch tennis. I only started watching baseball 17 years ago but as I understand it better it is starting to get much closer to football as my #2 sport and Jerry's theory explains that. Thanks Jerry! Wait, one more thing: Andy did a twitter Q&A and here are some of his answers. I love him.

WTF?? Alize Cornet battles back from what I believe was a two-break deficit in the semifinal of GDF Suez against Errani, and Tennis channel cuts away to chit chat leading up to Davis Cup right before she tries to serve it out?? What the fuck is this?

This Center Court thing is rather annoying. You have use other means to figure out when anything is starting. I had no interest in that Suez tournament so cutting into Davis Cup (admittedly, a dead rubber but I was waiting for Monfils to start playing to the crowd) does nobody any good.
Pretty sure Sam Querrey is in need of a sports psychologist. I don't know how to explain the way he blew that match against James Ward.

I was pretty tennis'd out by the end of the Oz open so I didn't follow much of the tournaments until Doha and Dubai. Venus! So frustrating against Kvitova in Doha. But wins the tournament in Dubai, emphatically. Still my favorite player win or lose. Ecstatic Venus won and hope she can keep her form and make something happen at Wimbledon.

Is anyone of our group going to the Sony Open in Miami? A friend of mine has a ticket she'd like to sell for the first Saturday day session, March 22.
Alternatively, does anyone have a suggestion where she might be able to sell her ticket? Stub Hub?

harry, your friend might want to try ebay or re-sale on Ticketmaster.
