Korolev served for the match against Berdych in the fifth set at 5-4 but got broken. This one might take awhile. Speaking of which, the Haase/Hewitt fifth should be interesting as well. Is it just me being amped about Wimbledon, or are there way more nailbiters today than there usually are the first day of a Slam?
ETA case in point: Shaky Chaky just pulled out her match 8-6 in the third.

ESPN hurts me by having Cahill call a match with Enberg. I want to listen to Cahill, but gag Enberg.
There have been more exciting matches than in the French, Wrong. I think players get as amped for Wimbledon as we do.
OT: I caught Ted Robinson calling some of yesterdays Olympic diving trials. Sunshine shoots from his butt no matter the sport. How can one man be so cheery and excited?

Safin is up against Fabio Fognini, whcih may just be my new favorite superhero name.
ETA: wow, Karlovic out courtesy of player # 172 in the world.

The ESPN scoreline is beyond stupid. Also, no matter what "flavor" of ESPN2 I watch (don't ask; it's Dish Network), I can only see the bottom half of it. What the fuck?
Chakvetadze is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge headcase. I want to like her, but she makes it suprisingly easy not to. And how old is this Haase guy, like 12?
I missed Nadal's new hair. I wish someone smarter than me would do some photoshop work and show what he'd look like with short hair, because that greasy, stringy mess needs to be chopped off. Nice guy, but the hair is heinous.
Penis-Face won. At least that gets me some pool points.

I can't even see the ESPN scoreboard; I have an old TV and it cuts off the top of the screen, so I have no idea what the score is.
The biggest surprises so far: Karlovic lost and Vaidisova won.

My hubby woke up this morning and announced "Ahh, the first day of Wimbledon-- the day all my quarterfinal bracket picks lose."
See: my WTA bracket.

I've known of Robin Haase for a while, and I've always liked him. Nice to see him have a good showing, even though it looks like Hewitt will win. He has one speed, one setting: 'Good God!' When that results in winners, they are impressive. When they result in errors, they are fabulous in a whole other way. His shots always sound like he's firing a shotgun. He's kinda cute, too.

I have Safin on my screen. He's looking scrumptious in white. He took the first set easily and hasn't screamed at himself yet.
I totally forgot about the Karlovic match. I'm not sorry to see him go.

Re: Hasse: I think he looks like he just teleported in from about 1976. All he's missing is the puka necklace.

Just caught a look at my baby Safin, who is playing well today. Ok did Marat have a late night? Or is it the haircut? He's looking kinda rough. Like he aged overnight.

Apparently, Dancevic and Serena use the same hair stylist. I think it looks better on Serena, but if Dancevic can pull off the upset, he may have something there. Though I hope he doesn't try on Serena's big hoop earrings, because I've always thought they looked dangerous on court.

Damn, Dancevic has a fine head of hair. Like Safin used to have. I wish i could kick Dave in the butt Although, this is amusing (from the BBC website): 19.24: And as one former finalist steps out onto Centre, another is in a bit of bother over on Court One. David Nalbandian - or Fat Dave as he is sometimes cruelly nicknamed (not by me, Dave, not by me) - is a set and a break down against Frank Dancevic.Poor Dave, even the people blogging for the Beeb know his fatness. Llodra retired. Hope he's ok for doubles. It wouldn't be the same without him stripping off.

Bah. Poor Marat, he needs a good run and he's going to get Beakered in the 2nd round.
Melanie South just played a great second set tiebreaker to take it to a final set against Elena Bondarenko. I hope she doesn't do a usual British tactic and fade away in the 3rd though.
