I don't even remember now, harry, I was so nervous during the match, but it was something like Djokovic guessing what direction to go, and winning the point. No big deal, nothing out of the ordinary, except for the ridiculous celebration. Djokovic uses a lot of energy showing his mood. Of course he's not the only one, and YMMV, all that. (ETA I know I'm exaggerating the situation, but come on, we're talking about Novak "rockin' with a sock in" Djokovic.)
Thanks! But now I feel incredible pressure. I might even double-fault...oh wait, that was the women's final in Toronto. FUCK THE FUCKING DOUBLE-FAULT AND ALL THE FUCKING DOUBLE-FUCKING-FAULTERS.

This may just be me, but I thought Maria's performance in the final had a definite train-wreck feeling about it. I don't think she has her game under control. Whether it's rust, injury, fatigue, whatever I don't know but it was rather painful to watch I thought.
Though I thought Elena did play well in winning.

Let me add my first hate of this USO -- Hannah Storm. I like her, I do, but she's ruining the flow we've finally gotten with the ESPN crew. She's stumbling over names, doesn't seem interested, and it shows. And I hate it so far. She's got nothing to add here and I know she's a seasoned vet in sports broadcasting but this is the first time I've ever seen her do tennis. Did NBC fire her or what? I want her to go away and they can bring back that woman they have do the other Grand Slams at least she seemed to a have a clue as to what was going on.

I have not been subjected to HS as of yet but if you're saying that she's worse than Suzy Kolbert, oh my in the words of Dick Enberg. I know that they are definitely battling for queen of the over teased hair do...

Is Hannah Storm replacing Fowler? What is ESPN doing with Fowler since the College Football season is starting? In my opinion, there is no good replacement for Fowler and Hannah Storm would be far down the list even if there was. . .
eta: oh man. Mike Tirico is on my TV. I HATE Mike Tirico. Is he replacing Fowler? 'Cause that would suck.
eta2: Hey, Chris is there--but now he's a commentator instead of an anchor? Huh?

Yeah. Santoro vs. JCF should be a Grandstand match--especially when you look at the lineup on the Grandstand and realize those women's matches are not going to fill the stands. Court 11 is going to be packed--at least it is a TV court so I'll be able to watch it online.

Okay, now please forgive me while I go into some "cranky old lady" rants.
Read an article today about Querrey, and how much quicker and better the big men have become, that they can be real contenders at the top now. True, fine. But kind of a throwaway at the end he was talking about fans and how they should let the crowd make all and any noise they want, let people cheer and cry out during points, etc. That the players ought to be professional enough to ignore it and just carry on.
Well, as to the players I kinda agree, BUT - I don't want tennis to get freakng louder and rowdier and all of that, I really don't. Now I'm well aware that at 51 I am not the demographic they're looking for, but again: I've been a big fan since my early 20's, started going to live tennis regularly in my early 30's and I always liked that tennis was different. Quieter, more intense, more focused, what have you. I can see how that can be interpreted as an elitist attitude, but I promise you I do not come from a background of wealth, and besides - do we really want to say that only the "elite" are capable of conducting themselves in a traditional/respectful manner? That's bullshit I think. This is all academic for me, cause the music intros and movement in the upper decks during points, etc - they don't really bother me actually. I just want to focus during actual play.
Rant 2: Again, an article, this one about Sharapova, with another casual reference to "the Russian beauty". I just don't get it. I'm a litle uncomfortable bitching about this cause I don't want to be just another woman slagging on another, younger, more attractive woman, so I hasten to say that I do think Maria is pretty, and more important than that, I'm very glad she's back, the tour needs her.
But I don't know: she's pretty, to me, mildly pretty. The classic pic of her sinking to her knees winning her Wimbledon, in that she does indeed look absolutely lovely. But it's like from there it's just an assumption that she's tall and blonde and therefore gorgeous. But the tall blonde Dementieva(etc) isn't gorgeous? Me no get.
Anyway, this really isn't an anti-Maria rant, more about the media and the way they treat women athletes. I don't love Maria, but I respect her and want her in the game and contending for titles, I'm glad she's back.

And you know he's saying it because it is his fans that are so loud and rowdy. It's weird, I'm glad tennis is quiet during the points because it helps me concentrate. When someone is chattering away near me I find myself paying attention to them and not what's in front of me. I love going to baseball games but I definitely lose a lot of what is happening on the field because of the constant chatter around me. Because that's the thing--when the crowd starts getting loud it's not just to cheer/boo what is going on on the court, it's to talk on their phones, chat with the people they are with, etc. etc. When you are in the nosebleeds in Ashe it isn't just that the court is so far away that is distracting you from watching the tennis--it's everyone around you talking about what they're going to have for dinner or how their work is going.

acre I understand about the Maria stuff because I was stunned to see this morning that she got a color photo on the TOP of page one of the New York Times. For a first round win? I swear Roger didn't get that for winning the French, nor I think Wimbledon this year. I think MS' managers and agents are trying to make up for lost time. I'm sorry she was hurt too - but that's insulting.

I can't really put my finger on why, but I HATE Melanie Oudin. Maybe it's her come ons after every point she wins like when I used to hate Hewitt back in the day, maybe it's her stupid shoes, maybe it's that she wears eyeliner on court (You're not on pep squad, bitch!), maybe it's the way Enberg and co. are creaming themselves over her. I just can't stand her and want her to go away!

That's my problem. I don't actually mind Oudin but I'm sure I'll end up disliking her simply due to the commentators and the media. They will make me so sick or her and her "cinderella story" that I won't be able to stand the sight of her.

Dick was totally acting like a doting grandfather during her match and it did get disgusting. I'm actually sick of all the questions they ask the women who've lost to Oudin. All the questions are about Oudin and how awesome she is, which is ridiculous.

I'm currently hating on the commercials on both CBS and ESPN2. Why should I feel such a burning need for better insurance coverage and a fucking Chia Obama?
