Can the commentators and Pam Shriver in particular just drop the fact the Kim had a baby. The fact that Kim came back after retiring for two years and is doing so well is great and impressive. The fact that she had a baby and can still play tennis is no big woop. She didn't have the baby two weeks ago people and I don't need Kim held up to me as something that working mothers should idolize and strive to be.

I do not like Jimmy Connors commentary as a whole. Most of the time it is "I did this, I did that, I am so great, today's tennis sucks, blah blah blah." Sometimes he has some great insight which in a way makes his other self-centered commentary so frustrating.
His and Bill McAtee's commentary during the Delpo/JCF match is driving me nuts. They aren't even paying attention to the match. Bill may be the one dragging Jimmy down here. Jimmy has tried to talk about the match and then Bill will bring up the Safina/Serana #1 debate or some other nonsense.
So perhaps if Jimmy was with some different partners I would like him more. Because he has the potential to be good.

They should just hand the trophies to Federer and Williams now and spare the bother. *sulks*

Hannah Storm. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, FIRE HANNAH STORM! She knows nothing about tennis. It'd be okay if she didn't know about tennis when she got the gig, but she should have studied some basics. She's a fucking idiot. And she's rude, and interrupts a lot, and mugs for the camera. Get rid of her, ESPN.

I am kind of hating the "Believe" t-shirts.

The "Believe" t-shirts combined with the media's almost ignoring Caroline is making me sort of hate Oudin. And did we see any shots of Caroline's family?

On the Fox 3 channel I have, I caught the match and they did show Caroline's family a few times, especially towards the end and after she had won. They also showed her post oncourt match interview with Pam (YUK!) and Caroline seems like a really nice girl. Very graceful, upbeat, and really respected the crowd.
I only wish her game excited me more. BAH I hate the shape women's tennis is in right now. I want to like these girls but so many of they either are one dimensional or fall apart after one badd point!
But my biggest HATE of the day? ME! Being a Roger STAN. In the two weeks of a major tournament, I go all crazy. It is annoying. I also find that I dislike like Rafa when he is in good form and I HATE that because Rafa is a great player who I would LOVE to watch at any other time. But because he is a threat, I get even more silly when he is in good form! I SUCK!

Heh, cheers!
I just get so behind a player. I just want to enjoy the sport in all its awesomeness for a change! HAHA I feel exhausted when the slams are over.

You are speaking my heart, mpol. I take my annual hiatus after the USO because I need a break from my own intensity more than anything. I can always feel my own burn-out as the tourney moves past Labor Day - less so for the players, but for my own erratic moods and impatience with things unfolding however they unfold. I'm also responsible to more people these days, so I feel some guilt about being so preoccupied, etc.
But without you guys I'd just be fanaticizing in a corner somewhere - so I'm grateful to y'all and our admin.
4 more days!

I feel like unleashing some Justine Henin haterade. I know, I know, she's retired, what could she have done? Well I believe she is coming back, if you believe the rumors, so I might as well get a head start So to her likely comeback, I'm giving her major side-eye WTF was her retirement about?! Why the hell she so adamant about quitting, claiming she was done for good, she no longer had that "flame", if all she really needed was a break? Because she was scared someone was gonna pull a Soderling on her azz at the French, that's why. She was having trouble backing up her 2007, had some surprising losses, got taken to the woodshed by both Pova and Serena in big matches, and so she ran off and quit, just as she did during that AO final against Mauresmo-- things aren't going her way, she just grabs her toys and goes home. It was a rash decision by a player who didn't want to dig in and battle as many great players on a downward streak have done. As much as I liked her game and admired her talent, she had very little integrity and character as a player and competitior IMO. And now that the more popular and beloved Belgian is making headlines with her second career, Justine wants in on the action. It might be nice to see her game again in action, but I won't be rooting for her the way I am for Kim, and I doubt she'll get the enthusiastic reception of her rival outside of Paris. I also think that, not naturally possessing the power and speed of a Kim or other larger players, it will be harder for her to get back to her old form. What I wouldn't give to see Clijsters or Serena give Henin a beatdown in Paris, should she return!

I've never cared for Henin either, so I'm right there with you in the haterade curlywhirly. I think she's always been lacking heart as a competitor.

Hey, Kleybanova? I don't watch tennis to see players who are more out of shape than I am. Get fit!
