Wow, I wonder who they are? There are quite a few Spanish players to choose from in Stockholm right now.

Oh dear. Well, Marat can sympathize. . . . (or, I think in this case, empathize).

Further reports are that they are Spanish speaking, not from Spain. Mayer and Belluci's names are being bandied about.
Aren't there enough groupies to take care of this sort of thing?

I have internet back (Hope everyone has been well!) and how timely... i'm trying to not get excited until it's confirmed..
From James Martin on Twitter: "Fabrice Santoro told French TV he's no longer going to retire, and plans to play the Australian Open".

Hi Admin. We missed you.
Great news about Santoro. I think it would be great if he plays the Australian Open. Is he just staying for that or for the year? It would be a little akward at the French because I think they had a big ceremony for him but who cares. I'm just happy he's going to stick around.

Welcome back admin! Hope you get to keep your internet.
I read something earlier that I agree with (and I think Marat might have made mention to as well): get an obsessed groupie and your life is screwed (heh, pun). Pay for it and you're safe (well, relatively speaking).

The Italian press and some of the Swedish press (including Joachim Johannson's blog) is saying it was Gulbis. The reports were saying that one player was playing in the tournament one was not. Poor Monaco was accused in the Argie press but it looks like it was not him.. A pranker in the locker room filled Ernie's locker with condoms, dirty mags and a whip. A translation of Pim-Pim's blog www.pimpimacemanagement.com/pimpim_pim.php*"Monaco found out last night that he was accused in the Argentine press of being the player who bought sex during the weekend while Gulbis already acknowledged. He will probably have a difficult time before the match on Wednesday. I'll try to take advantage of it early in the match ..."* So the Spanish speaking was a red herring. The Gulbis Pim Pim match will be very interesting.

PimPim is playing Monaco. It's Lopez who is playing Gulbis. If it's true and it is Gulbis I feel bad for the kid because you know the crowd is going to be snickering when he comes out on the court.

Thanks for the correction.
I also feel bad if it is Monaco and they are jeering him when he did not even do it. PimPim is saying that he will be jeered by the crowd- and it is not clear if he is someone who did it. So far- just Glubis with runors that the other person is Deivids Juksa, Ernest's friend and part of his team who sometimes plays. The articles made it sound like one of the people was playing in this tournament and the other one is an occasional player who was not.
So Ernie may be jeered and htat would be tough. But sheesh- if Monaco is innocent and yet the crowd insists on jeering him I think that is bad.

It's kind of interesting how many names are being thrown around in relation to this story. There were some initial claims that it might be Baghdatis who, it turns out, was in Tashkent at the time.
* modified because I think Feli's name is mentioned because he is Gulbis' 1st round opponent. After having read the translation of a French article, it makes more sense. Also, according to the translator I used, it appears that someone involved in the incident told "An opponent that he did not need to pay these ladies to make them mad." That little translation made my day.

Lopez was playing in Shaghai on Saturday so that one doesn't seem as likely.
So far it seems that Gulbis is the only one who has admitted to any involvement- at least per Johannson's blog.

Safin, Baggy and Lopez all won their first round matches today. I think hell must have frozen over. Safin beat Davydenko, no less.

I saw bits and pieces of the Safin/Davy match in between bouts of chaos here at the office. The very little that I saw was pretty compelling, so I'd imagine the match was a good one.

Did it never occur to the WTA that this might happen when they decided to have on court coaching and to put micorphones on the coaches? If the coach is talking to the player about an injury we can hear it therefore everyone who bets on tennis can hear it too.
