Man, did I speak too soon about Tommy. 5th set after being up two sets. Yuck. (But he won, yeah.)
Rafa vs. Hewitt tomorrow. That should (hopefully) be very interesting. Very tenacious terriers going at it.

Although it only went 4 sets- the Tsonga/Monaco match was the most exciting match for me so far. Even with 6-2 and 6-1 sets. There were brainfarts from both players - but also some fantastic play. Jo is finding a clay game and Monaco is constructing points and using his wheels.
As always, Moanco (for me sadly) got errors in important points. But still- fun match.
And the net exchange was drool worthy. Sincere chatting and Juan pulling Jo to him- he was so gracious in defeat. And they are both so very pretty. .....Excuse me for a moment

Damn. Jelena Dokic was thoroughly whipping Dementieva, 6-2, 2-2 and then had to stop play for back pain. She's in tears. This is sad. I hope she can finish the match.

I was wondering what happened, because I tuned in right at the point when she got up from her chair to go off the court for treatment. That's too bad. Hopefully she'll be OK to press on.
ETA: Wow, she just broke Dementieva and then hobbled to her chair in tears. This is getting hard to watch.

Hee. Did anyone see that RolandGarros.com did an interview with Mohamed Lahyani? I just love how all the comments are from people saying how much they like him. eta: In the postmatch when Roger was asked about looking up at Mirka and Pierre during the match: Awwwww, that is so sweet.

Aww- I love Mo and it is great how he is so widely liked by fans and the players. (Rafa and other players have talked about how much they like him.)
It is times like this when I totally lurve being a nutty tennis fan. How many other sports have folks interviewing and commenting on the umps? I have always felt that tennis many not have the highest number of fans- but of the fans it has- a high percentage are very passionate about it.

In football, baseball and basketball you only know the officiating crew when they've messed up. In tennis, we give props. Dinara is the cutest thing ever. Here's a quote from her interview on rolandgarros.com that I just love.

I missed seeing all the Dokic/ElenaD drama but it's heartbreaking to hear about... ESPN is so frustrating if you are more than a casual tennis fan. They've re played matches in favor of live play by "lesser known" players. I understand the thought process but in the end is that really helping the ratings. And in the long run it's depriving a i-just-happen-to-have-this-on-at-the-gym of seeing potentially compelling matches and learning new faces

I agree about ESPN, francienolan! I was away over the holiday weekend and saw almost nothing of interest to me because I had no Tennis Channel.
Today I did make it to Tsonga's match but I slept through Roger's - my fault. I am always sure he won't lose early in the Slams but it was better for me not to have watched that one live!

Is FrankenBoob, excuse me, Ivanovic's dress just supremely unflattering, or has she put on some weight? I don't ask this as some sort of mean-spirited gibe, but she looks slightly heavier to me.*
I'm hoping to see some Verdasco this morning. As much as he wants to show.
(* I realize I commented on Bartoli's weight recently too. While I'm at it, Feds and Roddick strike me as too skinny. No, I don't have weight issues. Well, I do spend an inordinate amount of time on my ass, but no one has offered to pay me to stay in tip-top shape.)

Haha. "Frankenboob" is awesome. It's so distracting, maybe that's why Benesova is 0-6 against her, she's as distracted as i am by the dress. So just hurry up, 'Boob so we can get a competitive match going.
Ha! They've switched ES coverage to another court. Thank god, that was miserable stuff to watch. About to lose my eardrums though, we've gone to De Brito's match. And people complain about Serena and Maria... Jesus.
Oh hell yeah. Rezai is bringing it on. She's complained to the umpire about the screaming, and he's refused to do anything. So she's asked for the referee.

TTC is showing the French!ShriekFest 2009 as well. I wish they would all just shut the fuck up and play.
I might have to pour a gin-and-tonic to dull the pain...

Hee. I hope this gets bitchy. So funny. Rezai is giving the ref the look after the points now.
It is ridiculous though. The scream is lasting from the hit of the ball to almost the time it takes for the ball to get to Rezai. It's not so bad on the serve but on the groundstrokes it's terrible. Certainly it's lasting to the bounce of the ball at Rezai. I want her to start screaming back louder and louder at De Brito.

OMG Poor Dokic! She would have had another amazing run! DAM IT! She should be strong enough to rebound for Wimbledon, her favorite slam/surface.

Come on, this kind of screaming (and I'm looking at the WS and Sharapova as well) cannot be necessary. Or, as JMac would say, you cannot be serious. I love Monica Seles, but is she responsible for this trend?
