I said Araz is gone. Too much Matt Cronin. Eli has been in rare form. Matt did say something about how he hates it when the net "grabs your balls." That set Eli off. I <3 Eli and Araz.

Man, I can't believe I took a nap and stayed up late for a fucking rain delay.
I also can't believe how many of you have gone avatar-mad. Maybe I should find that naked Verdasco picture...

It's always so disorienting to wake up in the middle of a rain delay. It took me a while through half open eyes to figure out why they were showing Wozniacki's match from yesterday. I hope I get to watch some live tennis before I have to leave for work.

Hee. I might have to keep working on the image since you have to know it is Feli and Fer before looking at the avatar--but look how young! This was the first time I had ever seen these two--in doubles at the US Open in 2004. *Sigh* to see Feli for the first time again. . .
eta: okay, that's a little better.

Matt Cronin reported that Verdasco went to the Wozniacki match and stayed until the end last night. Romance blooms.
They were also discussing that Rafa *gulp* may have a knee injury. Some discussion of odd looks he was giving Toni during the match and that he wasn't as quick to the ball.
Wozniacki is up a break in the 3rd.

Hi all! I finally signed up. I'm currently watching Serena play and....wow. She has a hangover. As in, her belly is hanging over her waist. She's wearing a very form fitting top and it's not the most flattering option for her.
I love the French. I live in CA, but for 2 weeks I live on Paris time.

What the fuck Serena? All credit to Zakopalova because she's taking it to Serena. I'm glad Gael won his match. He's such fun to watch and the commentator was a woman who was quite good and admired Gael for all his little quirks with amazement like I do.

I can't believe Serena blew 5 match points in that second set and has lost the breaker. She looks absolutely awful. I'm afraid her streak of never having lost the 1r in a slam could be coming to an end.

Oh did I miss Monfils playing today? That pissed me off, but I had to catch the press conference for the Supreme Court nominee. So much time to waste.
Honestly, with Serena now going into the third set, and her terrible fitness level, she is going to have to hope Zakopalova's nerves get to her. The end of the 2d set showed that she has a bit of the Novotna in her.

They didn't show Gael on TTC I don't believe, but I have Direct TV and saw his match on their mix channel.
Serena looks to be completely out of sorts here. I think it's a mistake for her to be playing doubles with Vee here if she advances past the 1st rnd because it could start to bother her knee. On the other hand it can be nothing but good for Vee to get the feel of the red clay and work on her serving woes. I know they have a doubles match sometime after Serena's match but I wonder if they'll even play today because of the rain delay pushing back matches.

Good question. It's already 6:30 in Paris and they have to allow "suitable rest." How's the crowd for the Benneteau/Tsonga match? Are they going crazy for the Frenchmen? Just looking at the scoreline, they seem pretty even right now.

Serena is just playing like ass. Her opponent is fighting very well, but this match should have been over an hour ago. So many wasted MP's. If she's lucky enough to escape this round, she ain't going much further.
Was glad to watch Gael win his match. He's been having some serious knee problems and he still might eventually need surgery. But he's got SF points to defend here, and while I don't see him going that far, I would like him to minimize the damage.
ETA: I'll have to go through my vast collection of pics to find the perfect avatar, but for now this one will do. It always makes me giggle.
ETA2: And Serena finally pulls it out. I never really doubted that she would, even as messed up as she looked. She just doesn't lose in the first round of slams. But the girl is in trouble.

lt I just tuned into the Tsonga match and the commentator just said the crowd is torn about who to root for and it's a rather flat atmosphere because both players are French.

Aww, darn. I was hoping they were going nuts.
eta: why, that picture is hysterical but I cannot see them well enough to see who they are--who are they?

Serena was really stinking up the joint today. I can't believe she managed to pull it out. In that game when she had all those match points, I started out thinking she was going to close out the match right there, and then before the game was even over I started thinking "shit, she's going to lose the whole thing." She had a good streak through most of the second half of the second set, but other than that, she was horrible. She was guiding every shot, she seemed to meet every ball on her back foot, and Zakapalova kept getting her with a backhand to the deuce court (I wonder if she was having trouble pushing off to that side?). At one point, she did it like 3 times in a row; it was embarrassing. As far as her fitness, I didn't think it was that bad, she just didn't seem to be playing well.
Has anyone been having problems getting onto the Roland Garros website? I haven't been able to get on all day.
