I was wondering the same thing. You know she would have concentrated on Marat in the crowd as much as she concentrates on Zeljko--would that be better or worse? To give Marat credit, I think he knows this but doesn't want to say it when he's asked why he doesn't come to the matches. Not saying the real reason makes him look churlish, but I'm wondering if he really does understand his sister very well. I didn't know that Marat had paid for her training, got her his agent, included her in his sponsorships until Ted, Mary and John were talking about it during the match. I might have done him a disservice. Says something about the press that I knew he was the one who told Dinara she needed to lose weight but had never heard he was the one paying for her training.

Yeah, i don't get that. I'm an only child (sob) so i can't really relate to it, but i know i would want my family there. Were her parents there at least?

I am glad that they showed that because it showed how Roger is a fighter. I also like that Delpo got some air time. Of course, as I have stated I am a big fan of his but was it just me or did JMac seem very complimentary of him? That was nice to see. mooncreek- I think it could help her. Couldn't make it much worse. That has been a black mark to me against Marat- his refusal to watch her live. She has watched him. He says that he just wants to watch her on tv. She says that it would mean a lot for him to be there. As one of the rare few who is not totally in love with Marat- I think he is funny, witty, smart- but not very kind and rather self centered. I wish he was kinder and would actually show up for a match. It is obvious she adores him- he does not really seem to care about her. Imo. It was nice to hear that he paid for a bunch of stuff for her when she started. But is that more obligation or caring? I may be misjudging him- but I would like to see more visual caring from him. When he is asked about her in pressers- he looks bored. Always has. Granted- I could be misjudging him and this could be my own little sister of a more successful older brother syndrome rearing its head.

JMac definitely seems to like JMdP. He was very impressed that del Potro was playing so well on his (self-admitted) least-favorite surface. John made a very good observation (hindsight being 20/20 and all) that letting the fourth set go in order to get to the 5th is something he'll stop doing as he gets more experienced--especially against a player like Federer. As John said, Roger used the ease of the 4th set to get him to the next level and build up his confidence. Yes, del Potro wanted to save energy for the 5th as the 4th started getting away from him but he would have been better served to keep battle-ing because that would have kept Roger's confidence from getting to the level it did. This tournament has truly shown that letting a set go isn't the best idea, especially on clay.
Ah, family dynamics. I'm the more successful older sibling (I have a younger sister) and I have an immediate family that doesn't really need to see each very often so I guess I'm not all that surprised by Marat's reaction to his kid sis. However, from what Dinara has said about Marat I think she would prefer he was at her matches--I just don't know if she would play better if he was. She gets very involved in what is going on in her box and Marat might be a distraction she doesn't need.

Yes I lean in that direction. I think Marat would show if he thought it would help Dinara. I think he thinks it would put more pressure on her. I remember other players who have said they felt pressure from having their entire families there.

Meh. I'm glad I missed the women's final. It sounds painful. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get my ass up at 5 a.m. local time to see the men's final online...because once again, fucking NBC is not airing the match live. We should flood them with complaints. It's pathetic.
Also, this made me laugh:
Okay, there was a lot of great tennis played...but it was also five hours of Nadal picking his ass! I mean, what Nadal match isn't? It's funny cos it's true.

Yes so true. I remember when my Mom first saw him play she askwed me what was wrong with that boy's underwear? Seriously though, Tursunov has serious envy issues with Federer and Nadal. I love the expressions on the face of the woman driving the car. You can almost see a little thought bubble over her head that says 'tool". www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGn0uWaDfaUIt's too bad because I know he can be a really funny guy at times.

Oh, poor Miriam, having to listen to all these jerks. Hmm. I can't decide whether he has a point or is just being a grouch.

I know it is popular to make fun of Nadal, and a lot of folks don't like him but I found Dima's little rant to be rather hateful. Yes- Rafa picks his underwear- I am sure he wish he didn't. I wish he didn't, and have giggled about it. My mom remarks on it. Mu husband and I have giggled about it. But Tursy was frankly pretty darned mean and dismissive of a match which believe it or not- had actual some tennis in it an not just Rafa's OCD. But now- the match was crap and should be sneered and laughed at per Dima- and per him should just be fodder for belittling a player. And guess what Dima- I have been watching tennis since I was five but thanks for saying that folks who liked the match don't know anything about the sport. Well- per Tio Toni (who knows if he is right) Rafa may not even make it to Wimbledon this year which will please a lot of people I am sure for being spared his OCD and overrated matches. He withdrew from Queens though. I know I sound ubersensitive. Sorry. And heck- one of my favorite players (Delpo) has teased about Rafa's habit. If you have such a habit- it will be mocked. But he at least is friends with Rafa and really seems to respect players. But Dima has just a level of spite and hatefulness in him. And to totally dismiss the match...okay. Sure- it should be thrown in the rubbish bin I guess. I do not have a good opinion of Dima- as I have relayed in the past. Independent of what he says about Rafa. He made fun of someone I know in a very mean way - not a player- in a very hateful way at a tournament. And the meanness of it has turned me off of him forever. He may be able to write a good blog, and flirt with fans- but he can also threaten to pull umps off their chair and cruelly mock female members of the press (as he did my friend.)

Most of them are really nice. Davydenko, Chardy, Lapentti, Simon, Robredo, Berdych, Haas. They were all very polite.
It was really cute when the question of the prettiest female tennis player came up for Chardy. His girlfriend was with him in the car and she was giving him the major evil eye.

Well I know how I'll spend my evening. I want to watch those videos. I'll skip Tursunov though. I think he's an ass. He's a butthismouth.
I remember that match. I was in a hotel watching on the crappy hotel TV. The All-Star team was announced during the match and, of course, one of the guys we thought was going to make the team didn't so I was talking to my team finding an image for the guy from his team who did and dealing with how that would affect our schedule. My cousin was driving back from a weekend away and calling me every few minutes to get updates. And I was engrossed in the match. There were great points, drama and beauty. Dima is just a jealous ass. He feels the need to put others down to make himself feel strong. I watch a lot of sports, and a lot of sports news and I don't think anyone makes fun of Rafa anymore. I never hear any legit press commenting on his ticks.
Tiki, the men's final doesn't begin until 3pm in Paris (9am ET) so I think that's 7am for you? Not so bad.
eta: I watched a few of the videos and I have to say three things: -Lapentti was totally flirting and it was adorable. Myriam seemed a bit receptive. She was leaning towards the back seat the entire time. -I'm going to forgive Haas for being a bit distracted. It was the day before he played Federer. -That little Peujot was nice. Not a lot of leg room in the backseat but that glass roof was to die for.

If I'd been driving I would have thrown the car in to park and jumped in to the back seat the moment he asked me if I was married. Because I'm not and he is most definitely hot. But the lack of leg room in the back made for oddly placed legs exposing a great deal of inner thigh. In most cases this was quite pleasant. ETA - I didn't know Simon's nickname was "chick" because he is a small chick. ETA#2 - If you want to have a laugh watch the one the Bryan Brothers did www.youtube.com/watch?v=itv2qWn2HQA&feature=relatedBob, apparently not clearly grasping the english language, explains their "motto" is the chest bump Mike sings a U2 song They are recording an album this year and they play some of their music on an MP3 player.

Chardy was cute too--but girlfriend was pissed when he chose both WTA players and she was completely bored for the rest of the questions.
