francienolan you are right. The commentators were talking about the dynamic with the women players and their coaches and how they always look to the stand. It was said that they see them as more of a guru who knows all, who can fix anything, rather than just the coach/player dynamic. It is very unsettleing.
Dinara and her coach have a history. He helped her out when she was at the lowest of her lows. But she was always looking up at him, refereing to him... PLAY THE DAM GAME.
It all is very weird. And icky.

Agreed. It doesn't seem to be a Svengali-type situation here though. It seems like Dinara is relying on Zeljko's approval but that she's created that situation, not him. At least I hope I'm right--I would hate to find out that Zeljko is the instigator in this relationship.
Agreed again. I don't usually pay too this much attention to the women's side. Of course this is also why this result hurts--Dinara is a large part of my interest in the women's game.

Some others are saying that because the women's game is so wide open, that the game is bad like it was for them, back in 04ish. I don't mind an open women's field, though a few strong contenders with personality never hurt the game. It is why the Williams always get a lot of attention at Wimby. They are favorites each time, and people are interested in them when they win. We need more people the media want to sink their teeth into. WS, Sharapova, Ana, could, Dinara, Sveta, could make some great contenders.

admin, I just went to see what was going on with Kafelnikov and that match is already over. Dang. WHAT WHAT WHAT?!?! You know what that means.... Soderling MUST WIN. To avenge me!! And don't start me off on WTA and the coach situation. All that allowing the coach to come on court and talk to the player sends me into apoplexy.

Hee, I was thinking about that when I went looking for the match. Not pleased it was already over.

Oh please no. Please just let Roger complete his career Slam. PLEASE! No. It can't be. I asked for one thing, TV coverage of my favourite fat moneygrabbing Russian and it didn't happen. Sorry guys.

What a sad RG for me. I am gutted by Dinara's implosion. I do agree she relies on her coach to much. There are rumors- which may mean nothing- that she is in love with him. Nothing has happened with that and the rumors may not be anything but gossip from keyboard guessers. If it is true- I think it would be good for her to get a nice romantic relationship with someone. I am hoping for an ATP player. She can speak Spanish and I would love to see her with Ferrer- for the height difference and similar gait as they would be hilarious, or with JMDP- as they would be the tallest couple ever. And- he said that his first love was his closest female friend so it seems that he can be in relationships with gals that he can have stuff in common with. In this case tennis. She did attend one of Rafa's matches at Madrid with F Lo and they were laughing in the stands. Now that would be one of the most unexpected and hilarious couplings ever. I would pay to see that happen. Hee hee. I am kidding- kind of. I love to pair off players though in my mind. It is really fun. Or pathetic- but I think fun.

Nadal/Ivanovic.
Speaking of relationships, does Nadal have anyone special?

I woke up late but heard Dinara was trailing. Saw the last few games. So sad for her, everything had been going so well. I hope she can win one soon, maybe on hardcourt.
Congrats to Svetlana though.
Go ROGER tomorrow! Does anyone know the weather forecast?

Nadal/Ivanovic. Speaking of relationships, does Nadal have anyone special? Yes- he has had a girlfriend, Xisca for more than three years. She is from Mallorca and was a friend of his sisters. She has been to a few of his tournaments. img.poprosa.com/2008/10/nadal-xisca-paris.jpgI saw her supporting him in Toronto last year, she has great skin in person (as does Mirka). But Ana and Rafa do get along very well- and some gossiping folks think that if they were ever both free they would go out. Speaking of Ana, does anyone know if her ex Verdasco and Caroline Wozniacki are going out for sure?

Where's the kitty for that because I'd put good money in to see that happen as well.
I think Fer and Woz are together--didn't he go to at least one of her matches at the French?
I finally got to see match point for the Fed/JMdP match in context because NBC just aired most of the 5th set. Seeing highlights didn't quite cut it so I'm happy I got to see it.

And after seeing the Youtube clips of them.. it's.. either very misleading, or very clear what's going on there. Eh, she's old enough to know her own mind, but she's one of the worst offenders that i think of when the whole WTA on court coaching experiment comes to mind.

For the first time since I started working Saturdays nearly two years ago, I was able to watch a ladies' final without relying on tape. Too bad it had to be this one.
Svetlana showed at the end of the match that, while she may not be the most attractive player on the tour, she is definitely classy, witty and charming. That she could relate to Dina's heartache and show their friendship in that moment was touching.
Here's a question for you: Do you think Dinara would have played better or worse if her brother would at least be in town for one of her GS finals?
