I wish that Gonzo and Hewitt did not have to meet in the first round. It is too bad that one of them had to leave so early.
Tiki I don't know much about Ron Jeremy (Reeshard's opponent) outside of the fact that he has never been ranked above 100 and is from Tandil- same place that Delpo, Monaco and Zabaleta are from. He seems to have borrowed his hairdresser from Zabaleta btw...shes- that was scary.
Speaking of JMdP- poor guy was trapped in a dark elevator by himself for two and a half hours the day before his match. Poor guy.
I am glad that Elena pulled out of that somewhat scratchy match for her. She needs to quit getting so nervous in matches.
I like Rafa's new outfit. I think he is going to be wearing a different one for the day- but I liked the darker one he wore for night--outside of the shoes.

I love Rafa but I thought his outfit was problematic. I don't know why tennis still thinks neon is a good idea. The cut and everything is fine, but I wish he would have gone with a different color for his head and wrist bands.
I would love it if Dementieva won this major. I think I would be pretty happy if any of the top female contenders won actually. I still like Jelena and Ana even though I know the board in general has kind of gone sour on them.

Not such an auspicious start for some of the up and coming females. Radwanska, Pavlyuchenkova, Svazay, and Paszek all eliminated. Though Wozniacki, Cornet, Azarenka and Cibulkova (double bagel) did win.
And Vaidisova was creamed, how she and Anna Lena Groenefeld have fallen.

Did anyone see the Monfils/Vasallo-Arguello match? As entertaining as any Monfils match, but the point right before match point was so fantastic it literally had my mouth hanging open V-A had Le Monf seriously on the run and both of them were back and forth between the net and the baseline. I was sure Monf was done, but he won and gave himself a matchpoint.
ALG is at least working her way back up, but Vaidisova's ranking is dropping like a lead balloon. I wonder if Stepanek inherited black widow syndrome from Hingis, because I can't understand what's going on with her.
I just read that Pavel didn't just retire from his match against Murray yesterday, he retired from tennis. I guess he's been having ongoing back problems. I'm not a huge Pavel fan, but it's always bad news to see someone retire because of injury problems.

AL Groenefeld making the draw in a major is a good sign. I know a Vaidisova parted ways with her coach and stepfather so things are really influx as far as her life goes.
Yes, Pavel's doctors warned that continuing with tennis was a threat to his physical well being, period not just his tennis career. I guess the heat of Melbourne made that really clear to him.

Thanks for the scoop, chesty. Missed you last night -- hopefully you will be around tonight -- and many others. I so look forward to the majors not just for the tennis, but for the great fun we have on this board. You guys help me keep my tennis sanity, such as it is.

Did anyone see the opening sequence for the TTC coverage? The focus was the 3 tp Serbians and they were being compared to a rock opera I think they called Jelena to a contralto, they called Ana a diva, and then they compared Djokovic to a castrato. I thought that was kind of a weird choice and seemed kind of insulting. I wonder if someone at TTC has it in for him.

BWAH! I don't even have to make a joke! Brilliant. But, also really, really weird.

Quiet night here tonight. I'm feeling kind of beat after not getting much sleep last night, so I'm going to bed. Hopefully everyone will be around tomorrow.

Hello folks. Random thoughts:
I am glad that Safina found her game. She started out real shaky but looked good by the end. And she has really gotten lean and cut.
Happy that Ferrer had an easy day after his long match two days ago.
Cilic totally looks like Viktor Krum to me (not how he was in the movie but how I pictured him in the books). I don't mean that as an insult- but when I first read Goblet of Fire when it came out I totally pictured Krum in a Cilic vein.
ETA- I love Safina's interviews. She is so matter of fact that it is cute. And you can tell she really cares about her brother. I do wish that he would be more evident at times in his interviews about his care for her- if it is there.

Venus and Serena are playing doubles right now on show court 2 for those who don't have Direct TV channelsurfing.net has it up. Roger looks to have his match in hand. Anyone know what's up with Gael Monfils? He looked completely fatigued during the last set of his match.
