Ana's winning barely, but not looking particularly convincing against Goerges.

This is my first good look at Jankovic, I had heard that she added muscle over the offseason...hate to be catty, but I think she looks a bit too hefty now. Her arms and legs are noticeably bigger, maybe they look moreso in that loose-fitting dress. It almost never works for retrievers to gain bulk in an effort to be more aggressive because they usually end up sacrificing their speed with no real gains in power-- it happened to Hewitt, Chang and Henin when she was in her muscle-y phase, before she cut back on her weightlifting and returned to her normal size. I guess we'll see if the new muscles actually help Jelena.
On the flip side, Bartoli has dropped quite a bit of weight! She looks good.
The first round match I'm most interested in is actually Dokic vs. Paszek, and I'm ticked that ESPN2 probably won't air it. This is a golden opportunity for Dokic to win a slam match. Paszek was so promising in late 2007 but really fell off the map after she choked all those match points against Jankovic in the first round of the AO last year.

Wozniacki, Ana's most likely QF opponent, must be licking her lips after that display. Her serving was absolutely dismal and she can just thank her lucky stars that Georges (who actually produced some pretty great shots) completely tanked every break point she had.
I love these first few days of a Slam when there are matches going on all over the place and the TV station is hopping back and forth between courts. I'm trying to enjoy it today while Murray isn't on the OOP because nobody else is going at a look in on British EuroSport when he's on tomorrow.

I'm with you, lizm. I took a nap this afternoon, to see if I can stay up for the overnight coverage.
What's wrong with Ivanovic these days? (Besides the obvious mental issues.)
Okay, as my late grandfather would say, Del Potro could haunt a house. Or as my friend Dave did say, "That guy's a real ugmo." Gracious.
modified for a stupid typo and to wave to oops.

Haha tiki... I went to get ready for bed... seriously, watching Djok destroy someone was not my idea of fun. But that last tiebreaker between Tomic and Starace was fun. And Tomic vs Feliciano tomorrow should be a lot of pretty on the court at the same time.

Annnnd we're back to Djok.
I wasn't really planning on sticking around too long - I'm already tired. And seeing Djok just exhausts me further.

I'm excited that the young Australian hope won his 1st round.
Also, I loved Mary trying to get the dirt on Brad and the LTA during the Djokovic match.
ETA: So how long is the Lopez v. Muller match going to go?

Heh, she seems to be enjoying putting him on the spot tonight.
ETA: it's very irritating that Stop and Djok are both wearing green and white with a white ballcap.

My eyes! My eyes! I think Djokovic is looking for any excuse to take his shirt off.

lol tiki- it seems that you and I will never agree. I don't think Delpo is hideous the way you do- but rather oddly attractive in his own way. He is tall and a little gawky with a crooked smile- but has imo great hair (after years of struggle) and very pretty eyes. I just need to accept that as a general rule- you will find players that I like to be disgusting. I do think this is a good picture of him- if a bit different. But I do realize he is not your typical dream boat. He played well in Auckland and fairly well today so I think he could make it to the quarters. Since I have been following him for quite a while I have that big sister protective feeling that I sometimes get for sports figures and would love to see him get to the second week. I am not sure that Ana will make it to the quarters though. Her ball toss is totally wacky now. Safina has had ball toss issues too- although hers is more that it is too high- but I hope she somehow has gotten rid of them between Sydney and here. Jankovic on the other hand- was pretty impressive to me. Except for the pancake makeup that she seems to be addicted to. I was so glad that Ferrer won. I watched some of the match and he looked like he was about to have an emotional breakdown. Oh please Lopez- win this match! Verdasco has done well riding in confidence from the Davis Cup but Flo has not really so far this year.
