They stayed with it, lt!
Mirka is stunning - mostly because she's so comfortable in her own skin. How much do I love her for not racing back into thinness?
Cute that P-Mac and Cliffy want to race off to Oz. After a long hiatus these last months for me, I'm ready too! But hoping they all have a well-deserved break.

I was watching here and there on line because I'm trying to study. It's on tv in about 1 1/2 hours and I'm recording it. Hopefully they will show the presentation. Were the twins there?

Heee. . . . And PMac said it with such enthusiasm that I wanted to join him as well. I know they need the break, short as it is, but it was a really thrilling end to the ATP season. And I've got a big rooting interest in the upcoming Davis Cup final so it's all good (Go France!).
I think it's really interesting that winners and losers for both singles and doubles made a point to thank the ATP for the way the finals tournament is set up for them. The doubles players love being the opening act for the singles and every one loves the treatment they get in London. I thought London had it for five years, but they were saying it's four years. I wonder if they'll get it longer? I think the players would like that. And being in GMT means it's as central as it's going to get for the time of day the matches happen.
Okay, some non-tennis points I want to make after being in the mecca of real-people fashion: Justin Bieber-style seems to be everywhere and, boy, are those kids going to be embarrassed when they see pictures of themselves with their hair all swirled around and looking wussy. Skinny jeans are not going away again anytime soon and that makes me sad. It is a rare few that don't look like ice cream cones in that look. The only thing that saves it is when the jeans are worn with boots and not heels. And, really importantly, longer shirts. I saw more cracks than I ever wanted to see in my life (and I never wanted to see any). Lastly, raccoon eyeliner was a favorite of mine in the late 80s but I can look at it on other people now and realize it really wasn't a good idea then, and isn't now. I like the mod look but most women should concentrate on the mascara and not the eyeliner to look good.

Fed's delayed reaction at the end made me laugh. And when he gets excited like that, he looks like a kid. I wish that third set was closer, but it was still an entertaining match. In spite of all the media hype about various Roger/Rafa showdowns through the year, I was ultimately okay with it when they didn't materialize. I think Rafa was the number one story this year, but after him, I was most interested in the upward mobility of the other top players (Soderling, Verdasco, etc.). I had kind of forgotten how fun it is to see these two battling it out.

Chiming in late I know but I really enjoyed watching today and was so happy for Roger. Despite the 2nd set letdown I thought he was really playing smart and it was so great to watch. Speaking of outfits wasn't that Roger's "UPS delivery man" look from the 2008 US Open? Maybe it was good luck Congrats on getting TTC acre and lt thanks for all the reports!

So I'm looking at the eBay page regarding the Art of Tennis auctions that just closed. Roger Federer's sold for $27,300 while Rafael Nadal's sold for $26,500 if you're into that type of battle.
The shocker? The top seller was Andy Roddick's, at $33,100.

Wow. That is a surprise. I so love that Roger and Rafa came in basically the same. I just love those two. Thanks for the reminder--I meant to look up the final tallies. eta: oooohhhh, did you see that you can make them your desktop background. I think I'll have to play with that. . . I went with Roger for my monitor and Rafa for my laptop. Very colorful. I'm most surprised that Andy only got a little over $7,000. Weird.

This actually can be explained. Soderling, Ferrer and Murray's went on auction early then the other five were around the same time about a week later. I suspect they would have been higher if all eight were done at once.
Though that's not a given as Berdych's was the lowest, despite being in the later group.

A good article about Martina and her plans to climb Mt. Kilamanjaro. The no nonsense way she dealt with her cancer scare was kind of inspiring. Granted she said from the beginning that the prognosis was good, but it's still a tough thing to face, I'd imagine. My favorite quote:

Against logic, Guy Forget has chosen Simon as the second singles player and the way he keeps pushing "fifth man" regarding Gasquet makes me believe Simon won't be playing the third day even in a live match.
Looking at the photos, I never realized Janko would be shorter than Gilles.

So I wasn't that dumb not to notice I had TC at the start of the YEC - cause I don't have it again now, so I have to figure it was a promo period or something. Too bad, I would enjoy having it but I can't get too upset about it. Much rather have it for the YEC than Davis Cup, that's for sure.
Too bad for France that Jo-Willy's injured, but of course given the French guys it was almost certain that somebody would be out. I mean, Tsonga and Monfils are too often out. I don't mean "too often" like they're faking it, not at all: it's just a pity that Tsonga in particular has had such a snakebit career when it comes to his health.
I've pretty much been considering it a given that Serbia will win, but with DC nothing's ever that certain, right? And the potential of the French team with Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet all in form - now that would be formidable. Even as constituted I shouldn't entirely count them out.

Yeah Gilles always looks pocket sized.

Another spotting of Roger's Lindt commercial: last night on "Top Chef." Whoo-hoo!
ETA: Aw, Soderling split with Norman. From this account it sounds as though Norman just didn't want to travel that much anymore:

Yeah Gilles always looks pocket sized. Gilles is actually 6' tall, but he's got such a slight build, that I often forget myself that he's not short. I think this final could be good, but only if Monfils maintains his apparent improved maturity. Obviously the Serbs are the favorites, but I don't think it's by that much. The French team has great potential to really shine, but also some major potential for a real nosedive. In addition to Monfils, Gilles has the ability to beat almost anyone on a good day. ETA: I just saw that Gilles will be playing Novak on the first day. That will be a difficult match for Gilles, and I don't see hi winning it, but if he's playing well, he could maybe give Novak some trouble, and wear him out some..

Yeah, I think I would have taken a good, hard look at Llodra for singles. He's been playing great and has a greater maturity level, which should be helpful in a hostile environment. Wow! To Norman and Soderling splitting up. I hope this doesn't mean we'll be treated to old-school Evil Sod again. I've really enjoyed rooting for the fellow and if Ass part 2 shows up I won't root for him anymore. Of course, no matter what the commentators say, I have no idea if Norman really was the impetus for the change in attitude from Soderling. Going back to Davis Cup: I saw on TTC crawl last night (yes, I was re-watching the YEC final) that the Australian Federation banned three of their juniors from getting an Aussie Open WC for, basically, being assholes. Considering Tomic was pulled on the carpet last week I'm guessing new coach Rafter and the Federation are going to take a hard line on the pitifulness that has been Aussie men's tennis. acre, I'm really sorry about the loss of TTC. Weird time for a promo, I would have thought summertime would be a good time to offer it for a while. I mean, how many people are going to add the expense just in time for the offseason? That's like offering the NFL Network just in time for the Pro Bowl. eta: I found an article about the Australian tennis thing. Looks like it is Todd Woodbridge who's taking point on this thing and the Aussie Open WC thing is that the three aren't allowed to play in the WC playoffs that would have gotten one (or some) of them a WC. Now they have to go through qualifying if they want in. I miss MPol, he could have told us what was going on down there. btw: if anyone wants to watch DC today livescorehunter.com has a nice sounds-of-the-court/no-commentator feed going. It's the "flash" choice under English feeds. Go Gael! Up two sets! I'm surprised at the level of support the French side is getting. The fans all seem to be in one corner of the stadium, but they're making a lot of noise. I cannot forgive the thundersticks though. I hate those things. Heh, the irony is staggering. The crowd is booing/whistling Gael because he's taking so long between points. What are they going to do when Beaker takes the stage? Gael took that misogynist poseur to the woodshed. Good for him.
