I am so happy for Melzer- what an Indian Summer he is having!

Ah, falafaclese, watching Live Scores, eh? I caught the very last game of the match on the ESPN3.com feed. I think this victory means that Serena and Venus take over the the #1 spot in the doubles rankings for the first time in their careers.

I'm at work so I won't get to see any of this until I get home tonight. I've got a tennis match after work so it will be hours before I get to see Melzer beat Djoker. I've never paid attention to him before and I probably won't downthe road either, but today Melzer is my hero. I've even forgiven him for beating Ferrer.

"Game, Set, Mats" was really fun. I hope they do it for Wimbledon. I hope TTC realizes what they have in that Melzer/Djokovic match because I'd like to see it again on French Open Tonight.
He'll go back into what he normally is for me--the guy who beats my favorite players. But it was fun rooting for him today, I'll have to remember that.

So now none of the female semifinalists have ever won a major, and 3 out of 4 male semifinalists have never won a major. I guess the clay court chaos we were experiencing leading up to RG is continuing.

In my quest to further my like of Soderling I just spent some time reading his tweets. Adorable. Now I'll look for some Melzer stuff and I'll be good.

Anyone know if this is the first time that the #1 and #2 singles players are also the #1 doubles team? I know Navratilova was #1 in both, but were any of her partners the #2 players in singles?

No idea. That's a good question. You should send it in to Radio Roland Garros. They answer questions on air.
Yesterday JMac was calling Rafa one of the most popular guys on tour, friendly with everyone and beloved by the crowds. So, it isn't just me that sees that. Rafa will be just fine without MamaBear protecting him. In total speculation and guesswork, I think Rafa looks crankier on court when MamaNadal is there than when PapaNadal is there. Maybe MamaNadal, like MamaLipstick, went through a little menopause crazy resulting in divorce.
The second ladies match, ugh. I dislike Jankovic, but Stosur has totally failed to improve my negative opinion of her. They can both go away. I'd be happy with Dementiava or Schiavone winning it all.

What the hell? Elena?!? Her greatest chance for a slam and she retired? She must be really injured.
eta: actually, I should say that her best chance was against Moonball Myskina but I don't want anyone to have to remember that travesty.

Well shit. So sad for Elena! I hope it's nothing too serious to keep her out of Wimby. But I hated seeing her in tears. I wonder if she'd been told not to play and played anyway.
Good for Francesca! She played that 1st set the way she needed too and didn't get tight.
Well now I'm going with Sam and Francesca with Sam maybe winning. I don't know.
Both JJ and Sam will have to be a little put out playing so early and put off their routines etc.

Yeah, they don't have a "not before XXX" on the schedule. Do they usually give some extra time to the next match in the case of a retirement?

Aww, poor Elena. Hasn't she had a thigh injury for a long time? In the match against Petrova there were back to back injury timeouts by each of them (I think they were both thigh/groin type injuries since they went out back versus being treated in the open).

Ugh. Elena! I have only just forgiven her for the Moonball incident. And now.... I thought for sure the scoreboard had just got tired...

Well I guess the next match will start in about twenty minutes per Chris McKendry.
Looked like Elena had flesh colored tape on the backs of her calf/shin area. She looked to be limping in the middle of that tie break to me. She usually calls the trainer so it must be something she already knows is messed up and a trainer won't help.
eta -- This sucks for Sam and JJ. I hope they don't come out flat.
How horrible for Elena.

This is so disappointing. Of all the people to retire this way, Elena is such a work horse. I hope it's a treatable injury and not nerves. I once injured my calf while playing, and it came out of nowhere, I wasn't even exerting myself that much, and it felt like a gunshot in the leg. I wonder if it was something like that, because she seemed to be moving ok during most of the first set even though she had the tape.
Dear lord did Brad Gilbert just say "mama mia"? Why do I find nothing he says amusing ever?
And YOU Sam Stosur. You will NOT let me down! You hear me!??!?!
