I LOVE Polansky and have wanted him to do well ever since he fell out of that window in Mexico (poor kid) so I'm really happy that he won. breezy, I don't know if you're in the mood for watching online but livescorehunter.com has the Verdasco/Fognini match. I'm watching the Freedocast link and it is the EuroSport guys. Silly Troicki--he's just about ready to lose now. And Fer let Fabio break back to get back on serve in the 2nd so that's going to annoy me as well. Looks like Fer might regret his decision to not play doubles this year--unless he wants to be leaving NYC soon.

lt - I watched it for a bit online but Verdasco's play was depressing me. I can't believe he managed to pull off the 2nd set. He seemed to be wrapping it up in festive paper with a bow for Fognini.
I was really pulling for Troicki in that match but it was not to be. Djoker told Brad, in his after match interview, that getting shade on the court during the 5th set gave him the same feeling he gets when he sleeps with his girlfriend.
ETA- Whoo Hoo! Polansky!

Love the report, lt. Means so much to get the personal narrative.... As for me, even my never-tennis-fan in-laws watched the Roger shot last night and are now hooked on the USO today. This is a small miracle, folks, and just might save my 15-yr marriage!

Seeing Maria's Betty Draper dress in action, I think it fits her quite well. I saw a still of it prior to the Open and thought it looked overworked and uncomfortable, but she looks great in it. And I usually hate her Nike dresses (especially that black collared one she wore during her Open win over Henin), but this one I like.

It's not bad. When I saw the still, I thought it looked really matronly, and it does a bit, butit's not as bad as I thought. The night dress looked even worse to me, so I'm kind of curious to see it in action.

I agree and I like the color--it's not a common color so I like it. I aslo agree that it is a bit overworked--the collar, the buttons, etc. all stuff that isn't needed. While I don't hate the collar, I think I'd like it better without it--that V-neck style and the way the back works really looks good with her spectacular shoulders. It was quite a bit of pretty on the court--her opponent was really pretty as well.
Speaking of pretty--thank goodness Fer pulled that out. That was too close for comfort.

lt - are you going back to the open? Loved your report of the day's events.
There's talk of a betting/match fixing scandal over the Ferrer/Dolgopolov match. Apparently Dolgopolov has some sort of history with this? I've never heard that before.

breezy, I go back Thursday, Friday, Sunday, next Wednesday and the last Saturday. Although the weather this Friday looks bad enough that I'm loading the iTouch up with TV shows so I can entertain myself during the inevitable rain delay.
I had no idea about Dolgopolov and betting scandals. Blah. I don't even want to look. Speaking of betting, anyone want to lay odds on the commentators talking about Polansky's scars when he plays Blake? Honestly, I hope they do--it will give a bit of history to the opponent of an American and will hopefully get him some fans. However, I don't know how well Polansky will deal with the J-Block. Did they show up today?
oops, Roger does a great job bringing in the non-tennis fans, doesn't he? I'm thankful that the US media realizes it. It's totally silly but every time I see that Mercedes Benz commercial I lift up my arms when Rog does.
I know she's a polarizing figure around here but why can't we have Chris McKendry and not Hannah Storm? Hannah never gets better and she pronounces names as badly as Gilbert. And Mike Tirico at night? Yuck. He's a big part of why I cannot watch Monday Night Football.
Going back to Fer for a minute: I'm a bad fan. I had no idea that part of his travails this summer was that he got a Dunlop racquet contract and ended up hating the racquet. Thanks Darren! Insider adidas info (or, common knowledge that I knew nothing about).

I knew he had a new contract but I didn't know he hated the racquet. Why do players do that? Didn't Djoker do the same thing last year? I mean, yes obviously they do it for the money but it's your racquet. It's not like wearing a different brand of underwear or something.
ETA - I just noticed that Ulrich is the umpire for the Nadal match. I met him in Toronto on the grounds of the tournament. We had a chat about the hummy Haagen Dazs we were both eating. I so wanted to tell him that I love his voice when I watch his matches and ask him to say "fifteen-love" but I figured he'd think I was weird and run away.

hummy Haagen Dazs we were both eating. I somehow read this as "yummy Tommy Haas". Also, I love Rafa's black and yellow outfit. oh, he cut his hair too... hawt. Sorry... min mind is not on tennis tonight... too hot. But - Phantom of the Opera? 6 times? Rafa, your musical tastes...

Mirjana Lucic (remember her?) won today. Up next is Jankovic. Given the way Jankovic has been playing these days, I'm hopeful Lucic can pull off the upset.

And the outfit! Am I missing the all pink nightmare? When even John and Chris make comments you know it's bad. Funny thing is, if she kept the skirt and picked one of the colors from the skirt. . . I'm gonna go with the blue for day and magenta for night. . . for her top it would be a great outfit. As it is, too circus-ey.
lizm, I like Rafa's black and yellow too. But maybe not with the bright yellow shoes? Super agree about the hair. Just like Roger, what a difference a haircut can make (and how I wish Fer would learn that lesson).
Agreed. Clothes? Go for it. Shoes or racquet? Don't even think about it without thorough vetting of what you're getting into. Of course shoes tend to go with clothes but you get the idea.

lt, I'm even cutting the shoes some slack... boy looks like a superhero, and I make allowances for superheros... Yes, I'm pathetic.
Pretty competitive match with Gabashvili, considering.
