Ok. It sounded as though there was a specific one you had in mind. And I could tell you were talking to someone, just trying to see to whom! I didn't think anyone here had said anything, so just checking.... (BTW, much to our credit - and I want credit! I know Roger quite specifically said (though, yes, he said he wouldn't be watching) that he wanted Rafa to win.

I'm not at all sure Roger(and possibly Rafa's?) 16 Slams will ever be beaten. Of course I didn't think Pete's 14 would be beaten, either. It's just so very unusal to have such incredibly dominant players, Of course it could be that in 10-20 years players develop, strengthen, progress(all of that for sure) to the point where a player is in top form for a 15-20 year career, in which case, yeah, bound to happen.
I don't think anyone will ever win 16 in as short a time span as Roger, under 7 years! Rafa can't - his 7 year period is the 12 French and there's only 6 Slams from now till then, and I don't really think he's gonna win ALL of the next 6 Slams anyway. That would be a calender year Slam, and a total of 9 in a row, including the last 3. That's craziness.
But it's fun to speculate about, and a privileged time to be a tennis fan. Dislike Djok and Murray if one will(not real hard), but can't deny their games. Well, maybe Murray of late, at least in Slams. But I'm thinking Djok will not be much longer denied. Then what happens with DelPo? Sod? Will Berdych keep keeping it together and do what he's capable of?
Okay,I'm really veering off this US Open specifically, should this discussion be moved to general tennis, or do you think it's relevant enough here given Rafa's accomplishment and record?

How easily everyone (by everyone, I mean the commentators) forgets about Rafa's knee issues. Just because it hasn't flared up since January doesn't mean it couldn't come up again. Rafa has been very careful with his schedule so that he could do well here but there's still a bunch of hardcourt events left (three that I'm certain he's playing, plus the WTF) and that issue could resurface.

If you haven't already, check out the pictures on Down The Line. My favorite is the 2nd picture with Rafa's mom looking up at him with all the love in the world. So sweet. And the Today Show people must be teeny tiny because when he walks on the set Rafa is positively towering over them. And, oh my, Regis flirting with him? And admitting it? Priceless.

Forgot to thank you apoca for posting the pictures of the little Federer girls. They are absolutely adorable. I can't help but think that a lot of Federer's disapointment at losing in the semis just washes away when those two little ones climb up on his lap to give daddy kisses.

That clip with Regis and Kelly was hilarious. Regis was practically buzzing around him, and Rafa looks very happy but nervous. It must be kind of tough for him to do American shows, because even though his English has gotten better by leaps and bounds, sometimes the banter is so fast and slang heavy, he might miss a lot of what's going on. He looks enormous in the Regis and Kelly clip too.

I thought this article about declining TV ratings for tennis was interesting. I found it frustrating that they only included a few years of data, though, so I searched around and here are the ratings for the past 15 years of US Open finals. 1996 | Sampras-Chang | 6.1 | Graf-Seles | 3.2 | 1997 | Rafter-Rusedski | 4.0 | Hingis-VWilliams | 3.3 | 1998 | Rafter-Philippoussis | 2.7 | Davenport-Hingis | 3.1 | 1999 | Agassi-Martin | 6.3 | SWilliams-Hingis | 6.3 | 2000 | Safin-Sampras | 4.2 | VWilliams-Davenport | 5.8 | 2001 | Hewitt-Sampras | 5.3 | VWilliams-SWilliams | 6.8 | 2002 | Sampras-Agassi | 6.2 | SWilliams-VWilliams | 5.2 | 2003 | Roddick-Ferrero | 3.5 | Henin-Clijsters | 2.5 | 2004 | Federer-Hewitt | 2.5 | Kuznetsova-Dementieva | 2.2 | 2005 | Federer-Agassi | 4.8 | Clijsters-Pierce | 2.7 | 2006 | Federer-Roddick | 4.1 | Sharapova-Henin | 2.4 | 2007 | Federer-Djokovic | 3.7 | Henin-Kuznetsova | 2.1 | 2008 | Federer-Murray* | 1.7 | SWilliams-Jankovic | 4.3 | 2009 | JMdP-Federer* | 2.3 | Clijsters-Wozniacki* | 1.1 | 2010 | Nadal-Djokovic* | 1.8;1.2 | Clijsters-Zvonareva | 1.9 |
The (*) matches were rain-delayed. Monday's match drew 1.8 on CBS and 1.2 on ESPN, so the men's final hit record lows. Last year's women's final was even worse. I think it's interesting that Serena is a bigger draw than Sharapova, Davenport, or even Venus. But the general trend makes it look like CBS should give up on tennis soon.

lol -eric www.midwestsports.comquote author=lt board=general thread=164 post=18407 time=1283798980]Yeah, Cibulkova is short. We. Get. It. There have been some really vibrant colors out there this year. I love it. There's also a turquoise that I like lots. My biggest problems with the clothing is the unnecessary embellishments (like those weird arm ruffles on Beatrice Capra's otherwise really adorable Nike outfit) or they're way too big. I guess that's why I'm loving Lacoste. Those clothes seem to fit. Thanks kfc for the wifey info. I looked up Lingman. On the good? Harvard educated--nice. On the bad? She was born in 1983. I guess that means Fer is not too young for me if Lingman isn't too young for Jim. . . [/quote]
