As expected Novak didn't play due to the back issue. Nalbandian does what he does in Davis Cup time and beat DC hero/tour headcase Troicki.
Rafa (and David Ferrer) may be tired but the best remedy for that is apparently sluggish/injured French guys. The two combined to lose ten games so things look good for Spain to make the final.
Bernard Tomic, after giving Australia a point by beating Wawrinka, said that he was nervous about Federer watching him. Maybe not the best thing to say now that it's given he'll be playing Roger in the fourth match (yes, Roger beat Lleyton in the second rubber but he was down a set and a break before remembering he's Roger).
Raonic is back on the court - Pospisil has won the first point so Team Canada is in good position, assuming Milos isn't too rusty.

Way to go Fat Dave! He wants that Davis Cup so badly. I really hope they get it this year but if they go to the finals against Spain it will be in Spain on clay. Not too promising.

Hey, guys -- So I'm going to look into changing TV service this weekend. It looks as though Direct TV is the only option in my area that offers TTC. Any comments about the Direct TV and anything I should be aware of?
Thanks for your help, Harry

harry if you accept any free offers like NFL Sunday Ticket deal when you sign up make sure you know when it expires. They will still have it on your account when the next NFL season starts, so before it starts you have to request to have it taken off your account or they will charge you. I had this happen to me and they stressed that I had to tell them I didn't want it.
Only downside with Direct TV is it can be expensive and depending where your dish is located the signal can be wonky and go in and out during rain or snow.
It looks like TTC is only offered in their Choice Extra package which is $39.99 a month without the DVR fee and HD added.
I will say that Direct TV really does make the tennis experience during Grand Slams pretty awesome with five courts for the first week and that's why I still have Direct TV.

Oops now they are tied...hope Switzerland pulls it off soon.
So Delpo won his match also? Possibly a Spain/Argentina final?
I read a story today claiming that in 2006 the top players asked to have the DC moved to the week right after the slams, instead of two weeks after. Anyone remember if this is true? I don't understand why they would want that.

Australia may pull off the upset. Or as Roger himself put it, Lleyton did excellent in channeling coach Rafter for the doubles. Even Roger doesn't have much faith in Stan. Haven't seen Homer Simpson either.
ETA: Putting it down now that I predict Tsonga will be playing Nadal in the fourth rubber. There's still the problem of the fifth rubber but you have to get your best player in there and keep the momentum going. (Seriously, Fer and Feli, what the fuck was that? Not winning wouldn't have been a big deal but three games?)

Two really weird matches during my 24-hour purchase of Davis Cup live broadcast. It's amazing what a different feel the live feed has over the polished network braodcasts. Hard for me to figure out to what extent the different medium was affecting my read of Stan - it was as if he was under water.
And then to watch Spain/France today, too - with the historic loss (it was the worst loss of a Spanish Doubles team in DC history? Is that right??). Also seemed as though they were so flat and lethargic. Anyway. Thinking about buying the coverage tonight to catch the singles. But not sure.

Yes I was just watching the scoreboard from Australia which was extremely weird - they would post the latest point, tell you it was an ace or error but I could never tell if it was the previous score or the upcoming one it was referring to.

Hey, skyz -- Thanks for the info. I spent 30 incredibly frustrating minutes on the phone with a rep for Direct TV who was in ferocious full-press sales mode. She scared me into not signing up. :-)

Watching Delpo/Djoko - first set went to a tie-break and I went to wash the kids' hair - and then it's over? He retired to give Argentina the tie??

Yeah, I guess his back p-oblems a-e se-ious enough that he honestly couldn't play. Djok's whiny day's of "oh no I'm losing, guess I'll -eti-e" a-e well behind him, most especially when it comes to Davis Cup, which means so much to him. Not to say DelPo couldn't beat him on a given day, but this was not a fai- fight. Ah well, fitness and inju-ies a-e a legitimate pa-t of the game: Just as DelPo! Kinda th-illing to see A-gentina in with a shot, though Spain is might daunting, and that's with o- without Nadal.
And of cou-se it's not semi's o- anything, but I do want to know how Stan does vs Lleyton. Flip em. Stan is totally the bette- playe- at this point, but LLeyton has the bette- head, and all that exe-ience, and that whole attitude of "go ahead and fucking kill me I refuse to lose" Beat it out of me if you must, I am giving you nothing, eve-, don't hold you- b-eath. Like I said, Stan is bette- at tennis, and he absolutely wants it .... but to that deg-ee?
Okay, to sum up: Semis Se-bia goes down to A-gentina(FatDave, DelPo, Djok the walking wounded), and F-ance goes down to Spain with Nadal, as one might expect.
Hmph, still no answe- on the Swiss-Aussie tie. Is it time change, o- just not conside-ed impo-tant enough to make the main news?
Ah, okay, the deciding match between the Swiss and Aussies will be tomo--ow. Good enough

Acre - the rubber was suspended due to darkness. Stan was up 5-3 in the 5th set.
Too bad for Djoker but I'm thrilled for Argentina and don't really care how it is they got to the finals. Fat Dave and Del Potro won their matches on Friday to make what happened today possible. It's well known that I adore the Armada but I will be pulling for Argentine all the way in that final.
ETA - Stan won the last set 6-3 so it is Switzerland that will stay in the World Group.

I don't know how the world will spin if Argentina actually wins the final. The issue that caused the fight between Nalbandian and del Potro when they were last teamed up - Delpo played the World Tour Finals and was worn down while Fat Dave is all Davis Cup or Die! (in much more colorful language) - could possibly be the very reason they win this time. del Potro is currently #11 in the Chase - 300 pts behind 8th place Berdych - whereas Spain has 1 definite (Nadal), 1 pretty likely (Ferrer), and 1 who'd currently be the alternate (Almagro - not that he'll ever be picked for the Davis Cup team). Before the tour really starts up again, I pose a question: which two countries would you really like to see meet up in Davis Cup that haven't lately? If Switzerland had lost their tie, they would have been demoted to Tier I. I was picturing what it'd be like if Switzerland then drew Great Britain and (it'd be GB picking the venue) it's played in that Scotland venue they've played the last two ties. The last time the two countries played was in 2005 - it was a doubles match that was actually the first time Roger and Andy were on the same court. One that is possible after this weekend is US vs Canada. It'd probably be hyped as the most important Canadian tie ever. ETA: From the Davis Cup blog about Japan's good weekend: As if you needed more proof that Kimiko rocks. It was playing an exhibition against Graf that led to the comeback to the tour.

Federer is out of Shanghai with "nagging injuries", Soderling is out due to mono, Djokovic will likely be out as well. Meaning at this moment, the three that went into the tournament director's office at the US Open (Nadal, Murray, Roddick) will likely be the ones leading the talks about the schedule. Murray is the one I keep hearing the quotes from about the players' issues.
