lt, I went with my family to Ireland back in 2004, and I know that I had a Verizon plan at the time and was able to temporarily rent an international phone - any chance you can do that?
In any event, have fun, can't wait to hear about it!
I saw the end of the Basel final - didn't realize it was on - have it recorded now. Roger was quite emotional to win at home again.
I can't believe Kei is still only 21! I remember watching him at the USO in 2008!

Does his name rhyme with "eye" or "way"?
Also, I wanted to ask for the thoughts and prayers of my Tennis Heaven community for my dear 13-year old miniature schnauzer, Harry (The Real Harry), who developed a nasty cancerous tumor on his right front leg and, after two and a half weeks of horrible suspense waiting for test results and seeing several vets, had to have that leg amputated. He's doing amazingly well adjusting, just as I was reassured dogs do in these circumstances, but it still blows me away.
I'm the one who's having more trouble with it all, to be honest. But he's doing incredibly well, eating up a storm, walking too much, trying to jump on and down from things and generally acting as though nothing's different.

Awww...poor little Harry and poor harry24. It's amazing how animals adapt though isn't it? Give him lots of hugs for us.

Does his name rhyme with "eye" or "way"? "way". Hence the nickname Special Kei (now that we can discard Project 45 once and for all).

Awww, harry, I'm sorry but hopefully he'll keep recovering well. Can he do stairs? If he's a bed dog, maybe you should buy some of pet stairs that they sell for pets to get up on beds because it must freak you out when he tries to jump up on things. eta: meanwhile, we're all qualified in singles for London. YEAH! for Tsonga and eh, if I had the choice I'm happier with Fish than I would be Tipsy so there's that. Now I have to hope no one drops out because Tipsy is first alternate. Stay healthy guys! hee, so there's an auction for a hospital's heart and lung wing and this description just makes me laugh: Your kid as mascot, hee. This one also made me pause for the sheer WTF'ness: but it turns out that was the start of the non-tennis items so it just reads confusing after reading about going to Roland Garros, getting signed racquets, etc. Oh my goodness, I just downloaded the PDF of the full list (which everyone should do for the picture of Djoker/Rafa/Roger/Andy all hitting in sweet suits) and there is an afternoon tea at the Dorchester with. . . Kate Moss. Can you imagine?

Yeah I bet your boy will do just fine harry. They're may (o- may not) be a difficult adjustment pe-iod, but afte- that it's honestly like it neve- happened. Cats and dogs do just fantastic on 3 legs, they locomote back to usual, and of cou-se they don't actually have any body image issues. Soon as the pain and the "wtf didn't I used to have a leg" passes(quicke- than you'd think), they're just you- regula- sweetie again. Mine had no difficulties with stai-s, getting on the bed, leaping onto the table nothing .... not until she got genuinely old, as is 16-17. It's a schock, but next yea- this time it will be nothing. Hang in the-e.

Good luck to harry! It sounds like he's already doing pretty well, so it sounds like he'll be just fine.

I have never found a tennis season so boring in my life as 2011, mostly thanks to Wozzzzzzzzzz...
Sorry, I dropped off there for a second. Stosur's win was very exciting, though, and I hope she has more success in 2012.
(You have a PM, harry.)

I'm not sure I'm going to word this right.
The annoying part is there are good components there in the WTA. The Grand Slams did have excitement throughout in a way the men's side only reserve for the last few days of the tournament. But there's something about Caroline being so boring on the court, so childish off the court (the kangaroo story, the ill-timed Rafa cramping imitation, Wozzilroy), and then having Serena show who's really boss throughout most of the summer (Stosur's win at least stopped that storyline but Caroline aided that storyline the round before) that makes the WTA itself seem like a joke.
You want Kvitova, Sharapova or another player to snatch that #1 away and see if it pushes Caroline to do more than coast.

You expressed yourself beautifully, mooncreek, and I totally agree. I'd go even further than Woz being childish, though -- she actually seems pretty dim to me. Obviously I don't watch sports to see geniuses, but she's pretty bad. Also, good points about there being some excitement in the WTA -- just not enough for my taste, I guess!

It has been less about Woz, and more about inconsistency for me (although I guess in a way, that's the other side of the coin that has kept Woz at the top.) I was excited about Na Li, but she was her usual up-and-down self this year. Kvitova proved to be up-and down too, although she managed to end strong. And then Sam was fun, and her win was exciting, but there was no time for a build-up of excitement since she was not dominant through most of the year. That coupled with Venus, Serena and Kim's absences through most of the year, and Maria's inability to take that last big step to dominance (I think she may have maxed out in her present incarnation, although I think she still has a couple majors in her, but she'll need a little help from her draw).
The interesting thing is that the top players are all players who exhibited big-match nerves who have managed to overcome (or temporarily set aside) the nerves at least some of the time (Na, Sam, Petra, and to some extent Vika). I agree that the women were much more interesting over a longer period of time during the majors, and I also agree that it was frustrating that nobody could maintain their mental strength over longer periods of time. I don't know whether that is better or worse than the alternative, because with the men, there was very little intrigue this year. The top four were, for the most part, guaranteed fairly routine wins through most of the big tournaments this year. I guess for me, it wasn't better or worse this year, just different.
