It is best 2 of 3.
As suspected, Murray withdrew so Tipsarevic is in.
As far as ending at #3, Federer would have to make the final. Must say with that in mind that I'm really rooting for Rafa today - and for the semis to set up for him to play Djokovic because there's no way Federer would lose his third RR (gimpy Fish or whoever can get to London to be second alternate). I'd really be annoyed if Murray lost that position essentially due to the nonsense of entering Basel.

You all have my sympathy. Roger was amazing.

Because it can't be said enough, fuck TPTB. (Yeah, you guys are probably sick of me saying it!)
Wish I'd seen the Feds/Nadal match. But I assume that even if Feds was playing lights out, Nadal is not in very good shape. I mean, how rare is an 0-6 set for him?
I am just LOVING my job, f'clese; probably couldn't have invented a better one. It's a very nice feeling. Nothing like working at Pizza Hut to put myself through college!

Woohoo!!! Go David!!! Into the semis as decidedly as Roger. Hopefully Berdych will join him in Group A. And how nice is it is come back to the hotel (after many hours of shopping--I decided to help the UK economy) and see tennis on my TV? Oh my goodness, the SMILE on David's face right now! And so happy the crowd is backing him so strongly.
They're talking about Djokovic and Tipsy having a little chat and Tipsy tanking the match on Friday to help Djokovic get into the semis. I guess we'll see. . . Meanwhile Boris has a boot on his foot--I wonder what that's about.
Wait, Boris didn't think Tipsy would tank and now Rusedski is backing away from it too.

Glad to hear it, tiki! It's always great when work feels good, isn't it? One of the few downsides I have, is that i have less time for tennis (watching and playing), but I guess this is a good time of year to have that happen.
Wow, Ferrer seems to have trounced Djoker. Did anyone see it?

Re: Janko/Nole: It's just a dicey situation for commentators to talk about tanking like that. Even if we suspect that could happen in this situation.
Although... if Berdych beat Ferrer and Djokovic beat Tipsarevic, there would be a three way tie at 2-1 (even though we know Ferrer is already qualified). That means it goes by # of sets, not the head-to-head, which benefits Berdych.

Well you are not alone tiki in that I will now say what I always say, this is why I hate this round-robin stuff. The fact that number of sets can determine who advances makes me insane. That isn't the way tennis should be played. I did notice that Fed got a slew of extra ATP points last year for winning without losing a match though. Small change though.
I did think Rafa looked less than energetic against Roger, though, on the other hand I do also think the surface really favors Rog.
Wish I'd seen the Ferrer match! A Ferrer/Berdych semi would be fun, I agree lt.

I'm actually a fan of round robin for the finals because it allows a player to get his teeth in if his first mach doesn't go so well. It isn't exactly wins/sets/games--here's the current breakdown. Djokovic qualifies as the 2nd in his group if Ferrer beats Berdych and Dkokovic beats Tipsy, regardless of score. I wish I was rooting for Ferrer/Berdych because it would be a good match, roseha, but I'm afraid it's because I just don't want to see Djokovic or Tipsy in the semis. I dislike the two so much that I'm planning on taking a little trip out to Wimbledon during their match tomorrow. I can guarantee that excepting the family members, I will be the only person going to see the doubles and then leaving during singles for tomorrow's day session. However, I'm completely wrong and Ferrer and Berdych can't meet in the semis. I thought Groups A and B met players in their own group for the semis but it's the winner from one group meeting the runner up from the other. That makes sense, obviously, but I thought it was the other way.

Happy Thanksgiving, tennis people! Thankful for you all (and not thankful at all for tv's approach to tennis)! Couldn't believe the news coming out of London this week, just when I miss it most (have fun, lt!) -- wild to think that there's no way to witness such a big event. Miss you all, and tennis a bit - and great to hear how well everyone's thriving in their new transitions, and great jobs! I owe you a text, tiki! Did I blow it already?

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving, all! I would be more thankful if I had finished making my pies already. Wish you all were here to share: rustic apple tart; jalapeno apple with a cheddar crust; blueberry & cranberry lattice top; and CHOCOLATE HABANERO! When I'm done, I'll lift a glass of wine and toast the forum!

Sounds fantastic, tiki! Send me one slice of each please! I'm making do with one store-bought pecan pie (delicious nonetheless), but I'm making my first attempt at cooking a turkey. It has gone smoothly so far, but I've just realized I may have my hands full (literally and figuratively) when I attempt to flip the turkey, as I'm cooking it upside-down. I hadn't given it much thought until now. Hope everyone in the States is having a good holiday, and the non-Americans are happy and in good health as well.
Rafa/JW about to start. This could be good.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Have great dinners tiki and fala (and everyone else)!
And best to our non-American friends of course. This last match does seem to be a barn burner today.
Heh, Jo just drew a smile-face on the camera lens after he won. Strange ending with the two breaks, but fine last point from him.

I don't know that anyone wants to be awake on Sunday at 5am ET but I think ESPN2 is showing the semis and then the finals. Of course the semis will be over, but there you go. . .
Very weird, tiki, I got back to the hotel and I'm watching the end of the Dallas/Miami game (BOOOOOO!!!!! Dallas) and they're giving the winning players a jalapeno apple pie. Must be the thing to have this Thanksgiving. . .
Rafa had absolutely no answer for Jo tonight. Tsonga's slice volley was out of this world. Serving for the match and losing his serve with all those double faults was indeed strange and I think he just really didn't want to serve again. From the first game Jo was going for broke and his winners/errors were huge numbers.
For the doubles I hadn't realized that Zimonjic/Llodra needed to win to get to the semis. I was, of course, rooting for Max and Daniel and it was one heck of a match as well. I don't know how I would have been rooting since I wanted Zimonjic/Llodra to get into the semis as well.
The people who work the music and incidental sound were right in my view. I was having fun watching them dance along to their music choices (ELO went over very big) but the best was when one guy got confused and thought it was a changeover because Rafa went to get a new racquet and started up the music. The other guys ribbed him but good--especially when Lahyani asked for the music to stop.
When Rafa's mom and girlfriend sat down all these camera people swarmed around them sitting on the ground taking loads of pictures. Interesting because there is currently some sort of hearings going on here about paparazzi and how invasive they've become.
The Roger/Fish match was a bit weird--Fish wasn't playing well in the beginning and Roger was playing brilliantly and when Mardy started playing better Roger kinda thought the match was over so it took a bit for him to get it back together. If I didn't love Roger so much, I think I would hate him. He plays so evilly now--gets his guy deep and then the drop shot. Poor Mardy was running like a crazy man. It's smart and you can see Roger thinking out there so I love that. On a completely different note, Mardy is a thin, fit man--he HAS to stop wearing those ridiculous shirts and shorts. He looks like he just got over some horrible illness that made him lose a lot of weight and he hasn't had time to get new clothes. At the end of sets Mardy would watch the screen with the set highlights. I know it was to see if he could find anything with the way Roger is playing but I wish he was watching to see the good way to dress.
Okay, so I have the between-game football coverage on here and they just went to a bar FULL of drunk Englishmen spending their day/night watching American football. It's so weird seeing a bar full of every different jersey you can think of. I was wondering why every pub I passed coming back to the hotel was full--I never would have imagined it was to watch my kind of football.
Lastly, Gimelstob. He really does his best to earn his nickname. During the Roger/Fish match he was sitting next to some guy (I don't know who, I'm sure it was someone very important) and Justin would. not. stop. talking. The poor guy was not saying a word and looked miserable. Later, during the doubles Gimelstob comes out in tennis clothes, covered in towels and threw his racquet bag down as he flopped into a seat. We get it, the players still ask him to hit with them. Stop looking for so much attention!
eta: I looked at the lockers that the players are auctioning off for charity. Roger's has a gym bag full on Lindt chocolate. HEE!!! And Murray has a signed iPad. I have no clue what that's about. Everyone has a pair of shoes and oh my goodness. These guys have HUGE feet. I could fit both feet in one shoe and have room left over.

Great reports, lt. It truly makes it more bearable not getting to see anything on TV. Seriously.
You've totally nailed how pathetic Fish looks in his ill-fitting, ill-styled clothes. And I've often thought how much better he would look if he emulated Roger's on-court look.
Oh, my.
