I'm on the bus to Boston so likely won't be seeing any live tennis the first three days.
Didn't have much faith in Bellucci but I'm stunned to see Peer is out. I was really hoping Tommy would make it to face Milos so that's a bummer.
acre - Rezai is the one whose father was arrested at the Australian Open and there's a lot of chaos surrounding her. Normally an entertaining presence and a never-know-what-you're-gonna-get type, she's hardly won matches this year and her ranking has plummeted. She hasn't been on a main court since this started (I don't think even at the French, which tells you something since she is French) so this match has horrifying trainwreck written all over it. I would like to be wrong though.

OT - but, I just gotta say, well put on that stupid show The Killing. It managed to be pretentious, self-important AND boring. Here's Tom and Lo's take on the mayoral campaign:
Anyway, thanks for your brilliant addition to the The-Killing-Sucks oeuvre, apocolopistick!
Tennis has been good.

OT - but, I just gotta say, well put on that stupid show The Killing. It managed to be pretentious, self-important AND boring. Here's Tom and Lo's take on the mayoral campaign: Anyway, thanks for your brilliant addition to the The-Killing-Sucks oeuvre, apocolopistick! Tennis has been good. You know I LOVE me some TLo. I have downloaded the Debbie Reynolds catalog and looked through the Daytime Emmy red carpet. Annddd....the Red Menace loses the first set. Who is that witchy announcer? I bet she's rubbing her hands together with GLEE and calling Murray "my pretty." I also had a little extra time and google searched "Wimbledon IBM Sucks." The loss of SlamTracker is bemoaned by many. They few, the proud, the people who can't live stream at work, miss SlamTracker. I'm all for poking the Wimbledon webpage people with a sharp stick. Or making them wear the Jeanne Cooper outfit from the Daytime Emmies. Or watch The Killing. It's all equally painful and they DESERVE it. I've missed being here.

Years upon years (upon years) ago I actually went to the Debbie Reynold's Hollywood Museum in Las Vegas where all that stuff was. It was well off the strip and in one of the creepy, not renovated casinos. That was back when I used to go to all the random Vegas museums (I went to the Liberace museum every time I brought new friends to Vegas with me).
John McEnroe does BBC until NBC takes over, right? I'm watching a stream with him.

Oh indeed breezybee - Venus I love you, I want you to win, I want all good things for you, but honey, you just have no taste, at all! I mean this oufit is relatively demure(what I've seen so far), but WTF with those nutty bat wings, toga-toga-toga fit. It has to be so easy to flatter that smashing body of yours .... and yet you so seldom do. Me no get. But the main thing is the state of your game, and that was looking fine. May not take a lot to dominate that opponent, but you did it, no lapses, etc Heh, and apparently JMac is getting downright testy with Nadal, cause Nadal will NOT say "Yes I am the greatest tennis player to live, ME, ME, ME!" JMac of course bases it on the head to head, the Oly's (both at least a little reasonable), but also on Davis Cup. Excuse me, have you seen the depth of the Spanish Davis Cup team compared to the Swiss:?? Not to mention: 16 vs 10. But JMac has been on that kick since Wimbledon, ummm was it as early as 07? MIghta been 08 when Nadal did win, but JMac was all over it from day 1: If Nadal wins this, then he is absolutely the best, the bette of the 2 players, neve mind they were like 12 and 5/6? at the time. Give it a rest JMac, I'm beginning to suspect you suffer from prematue ejactulation or something. If this was something he'd just gotten onto I guess I'd just roll my eyes and figure fine, he needs a talking point, something to argue about. But he's been doing this for YEARS! And it's true that Nadal is humble, but he doesn't sell himself short one bit - he says himself - yes I am one of the greatest tennis players ever to live, I'm just not THE greatest, and I'm fine with that. And though I usually use this phrase in defense of Fed's claims, it applies equally to Nadal .... Not Yet. Maybe, vey possibly, but NOT YET. So fuck you and the horse you rode in on JMac. (Okay, not the horse, don't abuse the horse!) And speaking ve-y pe-sonally(cause -eally, ain't it all about me? 1. I hope you can all out up with me -eve-ting to using '-' for 'r' cause it is a se-ious pain in the ass to have to copy/paste so constantly. And 2. I do love me so Nadal, what a sweethea-t on top of being an inc-edible, out of this wo-ld tennis playe- ... if only his beaking onto the scene in a big, big way had been mo-e comtempo-aneous with Fed I'd find myself "to-n between 2 love-s, feeling like a fool" .... but timing was such that Fed had al-eady bought me lock stock and ba--ell. So I can love and admi-e Nadal to an eno-mous deg-ee but ...... he's not Roger. Who me, -amble?

So am I the only one who likes Venus outfit? Perhaps because I wasn't alive during the Xanadu age and didn't experience the horror first hand? I actually like that she won't be tugging here and there and getting distracted like she usually does. I liked the overall look of it. No being distracted by her dress being too short or clinging to her breasts for her to tug at and lose concentration.
Go, Serena!
Go, Roger!

skyz, maybe you saw her warm up outfit? Her match outfit was super short and so loose in the chest area that I had way too good of a look at the gold bra underneath. Actually, it was so loose overall that the shorts part kept getting bunched up between her legs. That will induce some tugging.
Wow. Fer looks awful. Granted, Stepanek is one of those weird guys who has always had Fer's number but this is just. . . ugly.
I just sent an e-mail to the Wimbledon website about how useless Pointstream is and how much I miss Slam Tracker. I hope loads of other people have done the same.

Wow, Serena Williams crying after winning a first round match at a major is very affecting. I hope she's crying out of relief rather than worry. She looked so happy when she won the last point, that it's probably relief. She's so guarded (other than showing her fierceness and competitiveness) that it feels even more emotional.

The Venus outfit. I really have no problem with the material or the sleeves. The looseness of the shorts is a bit disturbing. (It is a romper, isn't it?) My real problem is the HUGE GOLD ZIPPER running down the front. It just screams 70s lounge lizard to me. So much hate for the zipper. I'm even fine with the gold piping at the waist. That zipper has to go. I'm wondering if someone can talk TLo into doing a "If We Were Her Gays" post on Venus. She does have such a slammin' bod and damn, those legs. Her taste is almost as bad as Xtina's. Verdasco took the fourth set tiebreak. Ugh. The Worm. He's so....wormy. On the utter fail of IBM for Wimbledon.com this year. Really, why would you NOT have the Radio Wimbledon "Listen Now" button create a new popup window? I mean, I have to click that, then click again to get the radio popup and THEN click back to the craptacular scores page. SO. MUCH. FAIL. Funny notes, the background music on Radio Wimbledon could be on an Austin Powers soundtrack. It's like 70s GoGo/Porn music. Oh, and back to the fashion, I so hate the armpit outlines in Rafa's shirt. They should have done those as two lines running down the sides to emphasize how his torso narrows to his waist. ETA: The Fourth Set is not the Second Set. ETA: The Wimbledon website feedback link is here. aeltc2011.wimbledon.com/footer/feedback/index.html

Hey acre, I don't listen so much to JMac and whatever he is babbling about, but I find it amusing that he doesn't think Roger's Olympic Gold in doubles means anything, considering the amount of time Mac devoted to doubles in his own career, just saying.
When/if Rafa surpasses Roger's total of slams, then I will think about it. As of now I see Roger as Number One, though as I said a couple of weeks ago, I would be a fan anyway. And he is up 2-0 in his match as of now, thank you.
It was something to see Serena cry like that. Does she have to go through a life threatening illness to get crowd support?
And I couldn't help notice her slight annoyance with Bud Collins asking her "are you a contender?" in the presser.

The fabric of Venus' outfit looked really cheap when I first saw it, but then it actually looked better when I saw it up close in HD, so maybe it's even better in person. Even in HD though, the outfit looks sloppy in motion. It's being worn as athletic attire, and you've got those wingy sleeves, and the shorts done in that flimsy material. It looks fine when she's just standing or walking, but with all the movement she's doing, it inevitably ends up flying all over the place, and the shortness of the shorts doesn't help. I know she wanted to do a romper, but if the shorts were separate and done in a heavier material, so they looked more like those 1940's twill shorts that they seem to be reminiscent of, it might help. As it is, they just keep flapping up and showing her bloomers. It just makes her look sloppy, and with a banging body like that, it's kind of a shame.

For several years now I've been mentally composing a plea to TLo to start covering tennis fashion when the majors come around. I mean, there's ample celeb fashion fug; all those pretty, pretty boys with their pretty, pretty thighs (TLo are thigh fans); Anna Wintour's not-so-secret crush; Stella McCartney's particular brand of tennis crazy; Armani models, etc.
And just to get bitchy myself: poor Gimeno-Traver clearly comes from the same Spanish Brigadoon Robredo does: 1983. And to compound matters, he's got a real Dawson Leary cereal box head (shout out to TWOP in the good old days.) Also, when I first tuned in to watch Venus's match, I thought at first she was playing Federer. And then Amanmuradova started moving.
ETA: Okay, did any of you guys catch the ESPN interview that featured Fed and Evert? At the end it was so hilarious. Hannah Storm revealed that Evert cries whenever Fed loses. Evert laughed and said, "You know this, Roger. I'm a borderline stalker." It was very cute.

One of the Fug girls is a big tennis fan--and since that's my site of choice for that sort of thing, I'm okay.
So sad when I heard Hannah Storm's voice this morning. I'm just not a fan.
eta: I am currently not angry at my sales guy so I'm happy that Isner just won. By the next round? Cannot say the same thing. Meanwhile, love that Mahut and Isner have become such good buddies. Isner comes across as so "American" that I adore that he's friends with the Frenchman. Of course maybe Isner is continental, he just doesn't appear that way.
