What acre said. Funny, I thought it was a New England phrase; I grew up with it. I don't know how accurate this page is, but it may be interesting to another word-person. Tennis? This is a totally weird USO. I'll catch what I can today, but will definitely skip the Ivanovic match. I'm starting to get a very unpleasant vibe from her -- the extreme weight loss, the mental issues; she even sounds unhappy when they interview her after she's won a match. She might do well to take a break from tennis because it seems like her issues might be bigger than that.

CBS has the day coverage today so I think they want Serena's match in their window. Ahh, well, that makes sense. I forgot about the coverage change over the weekend. Unfortunately, I'm not expecting much from Davy. He did give Djoker a tough first set the last time they played, but I just don't see him prevailing here. Especially in a best-of-five match.

Berdych and Granollers retired today. CBS just put up the stat that there have been 18 retirements this US Open (a record). What is going on?

Surprised that Murray/Feli match will be the night match tomorrow, putting both Isner/Bogo and delPo/Simon on Armstrong instead.

Thanks, acre and tiki! Cool site, you wordy you!
I grew up mid-atlantic, but in an English household. You'd think I'd be more exposed, heh.
Crazy USO for sure. I'm coaching my daughter's soccer team (shut up) and was rude today at our post-practice bbq, watching Roger. But he's got some new fans, that's for sure - probably not the demographic he'd prefer....
Loving the usopen.org streaming after ditching cable. Should have done so years ago....

This Serena match is terrible. I don't like her at all and seeing her just bulldozing Azarenka is incredibly boring to me. The most hilarious thing to me, though, is watching the US Open site with Virginia Wade commenting on the match. Their pre-match stats said Serena weighs 69 kg, which would be 150 lbs. Are they using stats from a decade ago?

It's gotten better in the second set, but still it doesn't feel like Serena's in any trouble. She's not giving Azarenka enough chances to get a break point.

Well, McEnroe did make a bit of a funny when Serena went down doing the full splits: (Paraphrasing) “That looked really painful, to me at least. I'd have been out for a year...for life!”
For some reason that cracked me up.
To acre: I look fo-ward to you and you- ---s, somehow they enhance you- playful pe-sonality.

I do too! I like to think it's a matter of personal expression, like e.e. cummings.

Wait, I don't get any more tennis today because I don't have TTC? The fools in charge really don't want me to stay a tennis fan, do they?

You can watch it online on usopen.org, tiki. The quality is excellent.

So, to combat the badness of the Serena match, which turned out to have a good second set, I started watching mixed doubles: Melanie Oudin and Jack Sock vs. Liezel Hubert and Bob Bryan, the #1 seeds. In the first set, Oudin singlehandedly destroyed her team--she was just awful--and I would have quit watching were it not for the fact that I found Sock so charming in his match vs Roddick last night. But then she came around and Oudin/Sock eliminated Hubert/Bryan. As someone who despises the Bryan brothers, I'm ecstatic, even though I hate the 3rd set "first one to ten points wins" bullshit.
And Bob looks like he has a bit of a belly now.

I wish I was surprised, moon, but oh well. You gave me hope for almost a whole day so that was nice. I think I'll check to see if there are single tickets available when I get there tomorrow. There are some available now, but I don't feel like paying all the fees. (It'll serve me right if they are sold out tomorrow.)
Hurray for Dolgo! Beating Karlovic. Sadly, he meets the winner of Djokovic/Davydenko (Go Kolya, go Kolya). I hope TTC shows some Fer/Tsonga and aren't like CBS fixating on one match at a time. I really wanted to watch Kevin Anderson and was surprised CBS was giving Fish no love. They showed less than a game worth of points.
eta: UGH!!! Either way, whether I get a ticket tomorrow night or not, I'll have to stay on the grounds to watch the match because CABLEVISION IS PLANNING ON CUTTING THE FEED TO THE TENNIS CHANNEL AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!! I HATE Cablevision and I truly wish I had an option to have different cable/satellite. (And, heh, I just told the customer service rep that the owner of Cablevision was an asshole. At least that felt good.)

Yeah, I have a friend who just moved to an area serviced(?) by Cablevision and he's about to slit his wrists. He's getting DirecTV as soon as possible.
