I am pulling for Fed too but now the sound is officially off. I could stand Pam Shriver interviewing Tony Bennett about his love for Roger's game, but when she gets Alec Baldwin to kiss up to the Mac brothers' dad the sound goes off.
I think Roger would be more consistent tonight if Irene hadn't disrupted everyone's practice schedule. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. And perhaps correctly.
I haven't seen anything else due to work. How bad was Petra?

You know it! (And, truly, I'm much more worried about Roger's outfit than I was about Venus's!) ETAcknowledge that it could just be the color on my old tv... -- can anyone tell me if the shorts are indeed a different tone from the shirt??

They look different to me. However, the shirt might be my favorite tennis shirt ever. I also love La Monf's shirt.
And Dmitrov looks so much better (in a style, hotness sense) than he did the last time I saw him, when he was sporting a hip-hop look that was really painful. Now he's got a bit of an Orlando Bloom thing going on now that is quite pleasant. (Although OB doesn't really do much for me.)

Agreed. So why oh why oh why the shorts not the same???
And, you lost me on the Monfils attire!

OMG did you see Dimitrov go in for the kiss? Heh. Such is the stuff of fanfiction legend.
ETA: Yes, age 10, maturity wise... and loving it!

If there was a way for Venus to never turn around, the dress would be lovely.

I know. I was rooting so hard for her (then she kind of lost me with some of her camp's talk when she wasn't playing well).
Wasn't that delicious? I guess the protocol of cheek kissing escaped Dimitrov when faced with the pure charisma (I'm guessing, he looks like a pheromone guy to me) of Monfils. Fowler and Cahill certainly enjoyed it.
I wanted to stick around for that match and the JCF match but this Open is not going to feature 12-hour days for me. My knee and hip were screaming by 6:30. Oh well, I guess it'll just have to be an off year for me.
Now that I'm not typing on a phone: Dolgo concerns me. His game is so high energy that he was sucking wind by the third set. Beating Gil is one thing but a better opponent is going to feast on him when Dolgo slows down as the match progresses. And I felt so old watching Gil--I remember when he was just a young whippersnapper and now he looks old (tennis-wise). I was sitting in front of the most obnoxious family at the Llodra/Hanescu match. The father was one of those really loud guys who thinks he knows everything about tennis, but oh, really doesn't. I would have been fine with that if he didn't badmouth Llodra for not being a good player and showing what a 29 seed meant (wha?!? You can't show up in the third set of a match and make instant assessments about a player you haven't heard of. And you haven't heard of Michael Llodra? Only okay if you aren't pretending that you know everything about tennis.). They kept going and going--the funniest thing was when this most adorable group of pre-teen boys showed up with one of their dads and was super excited about getting to see Llodra play and "getting to watch some serve and volley" and the daughter of the guy behind me turned to her dad and said "those boys seem to think he's good." Hee! Loved the boys even more after that. The family was so annoying that the perfect stranger next to me turned to me and whispered "I just want them to shut up." Heh.
For Kevin Anderson, it was so nice to see his post-collegiate career has led to quite a few American fans rooting loudly for him. Love that. Can't wait until Thursday to see Llodra/Anderson. I won't know who to root for until I'm seated at the match.

I think the front of Venus' dress is good, the back would be great in maybe black lace and if she got rid of the ribbon. I actually think she needs to just stop designing clothes post haste and stick to her interior design stuff which from what I've seen is quite nice. I liked her game last night, and have no expectations here, so if she gets as far as last year I will be thrilled.
I liked Roger's outfit. I thought it was gray but it's blue, right? I like him in darker colors and I actually liked his colored socks as well.

It makes me really happy that young boys like Llodra's style of play. Having seen him in person torture Berdych last year solidified that. Now seeing Federer in photographs, the shirt is great but with the shorts it bugs. I'm undecided about the socks but it does crack me up. Video of the Dimitrov/Monfils ending. You're welcome.

Thanks mooncreek for my morning laugh. Too bad I just spit coffee all over my monitor.
Dimitrov may have gone out in the first round but at least he left a lasting (viral) impression. Hee!

I wish I were watching almost any other match than one that features Wozzzzzz playing and Mary Joe announcing. MJ seems very nice, but her slurring pronunciation never fails to drive me mad. Aushralian Open. Groundshrokes. Eckshremely. Did she always talk like that? It sounds so lazy and drunken. Even Pam doesn't do it, and I'm more than ever convinced that she's got at least three flasks secreted on her person.

Just out of curiosity, does Djokovic like day matches? I was wondering if it would get under his skin that Federer got the opening night marquee match, and Nadal gets tonight, while the world number one has to play a day match at an uncertain time. (Yes, I have too much time on my hands, waiting for job paperwork to go through.)

Notice that the collar of the shirt is the same lighter grey/blue as the shorts. IMO the difference in shade needed to be a bit wider, and then we'd have had a great look. I really like the socks.
And, mooncreek, you have my everlasting gratitude for posting "The Kiss that almost was." Poor Dmitrov. Not only does he lose the match, but Gael shuts down his pass.

Ivanovic still looks painfully thin. She's been too depressing to watch for a long time now.

Is Lindsay D not part of the USO broadcast crew this year? I miss her. Although I think Martina and Moraru are really excellent.
