I was watching Fer online (I just love this USOpen.org live match streaming) and they showed an aerial shot of the grounds. If you're curious about how different court 17 looks, it's the one right to the left of the white building at the bottom (if Ashe is at the top). The grounds look so cool from the air.
btw: I didn't get to say it before: Congrats Tiki on the job! Great news and have fun next week. moon, sorry about the loss of power--I figured, but I was hoping not. A lot of people at work are missing power still and that just sucks.

Russians do the kiss on the lips thing, don't they? That's what the BF told me after I witnessed this: . . . which, as an American, I found startling at first. Dmitrov did look awkward. I got the sense that they're friends, no? Gael did follow up with the double kiss.

WTF! Yesterday Roger came out cold and now Rafa is doing the same. Lordy.

If I'm most of the tour watching this match, I would consider Rafa fresh meat. You can sense that someone will take advantage well before slayer Djokovic. He basically looks the way Rafa had looked every year before 2010 at this tournament. I don't think Mahut has the game (though I'd be so happy if he pulled that off) but Ljubicic or Nalbandian (3rd round), Melzer or Muller or Gulbis (4th round) all would like their chances if Rafa is going to be that defensive.
That and I hope Golubev takes advantage of some low-level tournament and gets on a run. It's rather amusing hearing a Russian accented voice arguing and bitching at everything in Italian.

Yup. I have treasured memories of Alexei Nemov (hunky Russian gymnast) smooching with his teammates during various Olympic games.

I have treasured memories of Alexei Nemov, period. Wow.

Ah yes, Alexei...
Well, I'm all for convention following the Russians in this!
Andre was really swinging for the fences this match, I'm glad Rafa's through though.

Tursunov and Dimitrov are playing doubles. So we might get the kiss done right.
Serena's dress makes her look fat instead of muscular. Scary good start.

I've been really warming to Serena this summer, but she lost me with her recent presser comments about the whole foot fault incident. Yes, she may be up to here with talking about it, but she was just so obnoxious and adolescent with her smirking and eye-rolling and saying how over it all she was. Ugh.

My circadian rhythms are always off outside of Wimby - was anticipating 2nd round and we're still neck-deep in the 1st!
Agreed with your fashion advice for Nike re: Roger's outfit. So close to perfect!

I hope Sod finds out what's wrong with him. This virus sounds a little mysterious.
Really impressed with Madison Keys, I hope she pulls this one out.

Oh dear. Poor Sod. I was hoping he'd be a force for a long time but it doesn't appear that's going to happen.
Feli looks good so far but he really isn't being challenged. Todd Martin is one of the commentators and I just love hearing him. (hee! Todd is talking about Judy Murray embarrassing Andy with her having a crush on Feli.)
I cannot believe Mahut won that match yesterday! The last time I looked at the score he was down two sets. So happy for my little alien.
Speaking of the French. . . congrats to Benneteau. I know he's been having a good summer but taking out Nico is a good win. And does it feel like there have been more than the usual retirements this Open? Two more men so far today.
