It's great that Kleybanova got her first win in. Glad to see her back. And now Venus just won her first match back too!!!! Just made my day. I wish it had been televised. But I'm so happy to see Venus back and playing.

DARN, DARN, DARN!!!! I love Mahut but I really had hoped that Gonzo could make at least a little run for his last tournament (although Berdych was waiting in the 2nd round). *sob* I'm going to miss Gonzo so very much. . . For those that enjoyed the eagle cam last year, this year I present a hawk cam. The Duke Farms camera (who had the eagle cam last year) had to go down for maintenance (we had a TOUGH end of summer/fall around here) so that one won't be working this year. eta: I finally watched the tribute video that the ATP put together for Gonzo and I'm sad all over again. However, I cheered up thinking about Nalbandian and Gonzo playing as kids--that must have been a kick. I imagine lots of temper tantrums were involved.

Anyone know why Rafa is playing doubles with Granollers this week and not Lopez?

Good question Harry. I see Feli is playing with Marc. Maybe Nadal wasn't going to play doubles, decided to at the last minute and Lopez/Lopez had already teamed up? That also means another tournament that Nando and Feli are playing doubles in but not together.
Has anyone seen pictures of Venus from last night? She's wearing another one of her creations but it's stunning for a change. She looked great.
Edited because Venus is wearing a creation not a creature.

From this interview, it sounds like Rafa is weighing his options for the Olympics. Thanks to Indian Wells, Marc is now the top ranked Spanish doubles player so it would make sense for them to stay as a team. But it's tough to figure the doubles teams (they're allowed 2) with all the various factors involved in picking who'll represent Spain - it would seem the team would be Nadal, Ferrer, Almagro, Feli Lopez, with Marc Lopez, Granollers & Verdasco relying on Rafa and Feli to make a decision on doubles partners.

It's been a bummer following these matches on livescore when you're hoping certain players will make it to the televised portion, which starts tomorrow. It wouldn't be so bad if there was at least a stream. You have Kvitova/Venus later and nobody can see it?
New favorite name to say: Garbine Muguruza Blanco. Teenage wild card from Spain, playing her first main draw event, beat Vera today to make the third round.

Yup: Gonzo, Nalbandian, Kleybanova. . . And Isner/Davydenko might not turn into a barn burner but it could be.

Aw, love these comments from Stefanki about Gonzo:
I'll miss Gonzo. Actually I've already been missing him.

I tear up just a little every time I read stuff about him, I wish I could have seen him one more time.
Looks like Davydenko/Isner went three but I don't know if the match was good. I like John, but I would like to see Davydenko make a nice run somewhere.
Well, I get to see Fer and Feli play doubles on Sunday--against each other. How weird is that going to be? I've seen them as opponents in singles (oddly enough, in Miami) but never in doubles.

I know very little about Gonzo other than his playing style, and somehow, i can totally see him being exactly like that. It's a shame his body broke down so much at the end. I was kind of hoping he'd make it through at least until television coverage. Here's Venus' new line for Eleven Very nice. Especially compared to the last couple experiments she tried. I hope it's a trend for her. And she's branched out into menswear too. Even more important, she just beat Kvitova with a third set bagel. Another good sign.

Sorry Petra but OMG was I so surprised to see Venus serve up that bagel. Fitness is the biggest issue with Venus so to have played a match already and have that third set in her makes me so excited. I realize I have to be cautious as a Venus fan because you never know what the next day will bring but am I glad to see that her game, when it's a good day for her, is still there.

Quote of the week:
Victoria Azarenka. I'm starting to like how her mind works. I hope this is an original thought.
