So I'm saying 2012 was a good, good y fo- the top 3 and DelPo too. Let's not forget Murray who win his first major and the Olympics (which seemed bigger and more important than ever this year) and also make the finals of Wimby. If he had made it to the final if the WTF's he would have been the clear player of the year to me. As it is, it's a tight race between him and Fed give that Fed has the most tiles for the year of the top four. Del Potro looked very good in the first set against Djoker, but after that it seemed like a completely different match.

Oh yes, I absolutely meant Andy. I guess he's still technically #4? I was excluding Nadal when I said top 3, and not a good y at all based on the whole 2nd half. Slam is nice, still a sucky y.
I think Andy had the best and most meaningful y. Honestly combine the Oly's and 1st Slam and it's not even close. 1st Slam has a lot mo-e relative impact than 7th or 17th, you know? 17, yeah we get it, it's just piling on(which I am 100% in favo- of), 1st is a night and day thing. He's not just "the best of the rest" anymo-e. Well, I think Oly's did that actually, but in tennis true legitimacy comes f-om Slams.

Congrats to Marcel and Marc--they played so well this entire tournament. I'd like to say it was because I watched them practice but I also watched Tsonga and that didn't go so well. I wasn't going into the tournament rooting for them because I don't like the noise that Granollers makes but I don't know if it was the echo in such a large indoor arena but he was quiet during all his matches so I started really rooting for them. I also like that they are continuing in the grand tradition of the Spaniards of being very huggy/touchy. I always think that's cute--and Lopez has a real killer smile.
Awww, everyone calls Lopez their "very close friend." During their intro video they had Rafa talking about Marc as his best friend. Now Granollers is saying the same thing. Must be a good guy. But they didn't let him talk in the trophy ceremony. He looked confused but then he just smiled it away.
eta: weird thing to note: in the US you are not supposed to bring in country flags. Of course people do but if there are problems in the crowd the security can take them away. Here they are actually selling the flags in the fan shop. That's why you can see so many flags in the crowd.
Awwwww, Boris Becker just said that this is Lars Graff's last match as an umpire. He's retiring. Good for them for giving him this match as his last one.

lt - Granollers the doubles player is quiet and an absolute delight to watch. Granollers the singles player tends to be annoying and noisy - he tends to make that noise when in long baseline rallies.
It's been amusing seeing the entire DC team throughout WTF... on a surface that's likely similar to what the Czechs picked for the final!

Tiebreak in the first set goes to Djoker after an amazing shot. This should be a great match but my DirecTV satellite keeps going out. (Sigh)
ETA: Ha! Just read what I wrote and corrected first set winner. Brain can't keep up (satellite can't either).

Oh, GrandSlam, that sucks because this is, indeed, a spectacular match. I love how drained the crowd is after the first set. They're going to have to get their second wind just like the players will.
Heh, okay. Peter Fleming just said the exact same thing about the crowd--that they're fried. (eta: not Peter Fleming, he did the doubles. I'm not sure who's commentating with Boris for the singles. Whoever it is, he agrees with me about the crowd.)

Actually, no. You were right because I was forgetting that Andy had climbed up to number 3. I'm so used to thinking of the top 3 as Fed, Djoker and Rafa, that even as I was trying to pay Andy a complement I was unintentionally minimizing him.

Yup I didn't think the 3-5pm window ESPN2 had would be enough. I mean, it's not enough fo- a 2 set match, and if it goes 3? Have any of these top guy matches been less than 2 hou-s? Please go 3.

Dammit! Roger! You had two set points! ARGH!!!!!!
Did the US commentators talk about the chair thing? They were talking here how as the top seed Djoker was supposed to get the chair that Roger took but because Roger walked out first he took the chair he wanted--not the one he was supposed to take. According to the commentators, Novak was not pleased but, to his credit, didn't make a stink.
*sob* This one is going to stick in Roger's craw for quite a while. He shouldn't have been broken when he was serving for the 2nd set.

They didn't explain? He is the national unsung tennis hero of Great Britain. He teaches tennis to underprivileged children throughout southeast London (the bad part of town).
Oooh, I just realized--since Novak didn't lose any of the round robin matches he gets the big bonus. That's the second year in a row they've had to pay that out.
I don't know if they showed it in the US but Novak made a point of saying something to Lars when he shook his hand. Good for him for making note of Lars's retirement.
Hmmmmm, Boris thinks that this loss will spur Roger to get even more motivated for 2013. If that turns out to be true then I'll live with this loss. What am I going to do when Roger actually retires?
Well, off to bed--I've got a morning flight tomorrow. Hopefully my house and cat will be in one piece (each) when I get home.

Not the result I was hoping for. I can't believe Roger blew both of those sets. Oh well, just Davis Cup now and then no tennis until 2013 when the craziness begins all over agiain.

Interesting that Boris should say that. I didn't see the match (work) but now Boris is no longer my least favorite commentator, heh. He may be right.
I did see the Roger/Murray semi. I have to say, that though it may be romantic of me, I really never *expect* Roger to lose, I mean I know it may happen, but I don't expect it. I really respect the way Roger never gives up, even if he may lose.
I've been thinking of that too, especially when watching Djoker/Delpo. I like Delpo personally, but I can't really say that any top player except Roger intrigues me as a stylist. I hope that by the time Roger retires some new people have come along, and hope that there will be a little creativity in their games.
Thanks for all the insights lt!

Speaking as a non-Roger fan, unless he's playing Nadal I'm always surprised when he's losing a match. It throws me when he's not favored to win, even if he's against Djokovic.
