Now I'm flipping between here and Twitter. Razzano had a match point and then double-faulted? And what's going on with Azderaki? Something about a call she made??

falafaclese, Razzano is cramping badly and has had a hard time getting her ball into play. Also, I guess earlier in the match she was warned for making noise during a point (hindrance) and lost a point earlier in this set for the same thing and lost another point in this game. I didn't see the one she was warned about and I guess if you're calling it the one earlier in the set made sense but the last one wasn't a hindrance at all. It was a audible but nothing like what we hear on the tour.

All of the players in Serena's half of the draw are sending Razzano flowers.

Wow. Unbelievable. Sharapova better be careful and not turn an ankle dancing around her hotel room.
Wait, why would this loss make Serena ineligible for the Olympics?

Not ineligible, just wondering whether the rankings hit would hurt her considering how many strong American women are doing well right now and who would get to go to the Olympics.

I can't see that happening. My understanding is that Roland Garros is the last tournament before the rankings cut-off for the Olympics, and since she's not defending any points until Wimbledon, it shouldn't be a problem as far as I know.

Serena will still easily be the #1 American after this event so the Olympics are not a factor. Venus is the one with the ranking issue - if she loses to Radwanska, there are possibilities for a few Americans to pass her but we're talking a fourth round run at least.
I had gone offline after Serena was up in the tiebreak. Never thought I'd see a result like this. What a day for Razzano after being on this court a year ago in mourning.

I want to see if there is going to be a fallout from the hindrance calls. Are they going to start calling them for the players who scream into the opponent hitting the ball? Since they were against a French player will the Paris press make some noise?
How much does Razzano look like a school teacher? I love that.

I didn't catch the why of it, but Serena was crying in her chair at one point, I think between first and second set. I'm not sure what is going on with her, but I don't think I've ever seen her cry like that, in just pure sadness. She didn't look angry or upset, just as if the weight of the world was on her shoulders. Quiet despair. I mean, we've all seen her angry, her fight, her be snotty, her joy, but this was totally different.
I have to wonder what is going on with her. I just caught a few seconds of her presser and she sounded despondent. I'm breaking into the thesaurus of Sad Words. It was awful.

I saw chunks of the match, but had to turn off the set during the tiebreaker. I never IMAGINED Serena would lose it.
I didn't see her crying. That would have been tough to witness. Renee Stubbs and Lindsay were both saying that it looked as though nerves were just overwhelming her. Stubbs (sitting at courtside) said she saw Serena say to her box, "I'm so tight." It seemed to me also that she was really hitting her shots with just her arms, especially on the backhand. She wasn't getting her body and weight shift into the shots.
It may have been somewhat of a perfect storm for Serena. Razzano really had the look of a player who wasn't afraid to win. And because she was obviously playing with such spirit and tenacity the crowd's support really buoyed her.
About the "hindrance" calls, yes, that one in particular sounded so puny. However, Stubbs commented that she cries out after the grunt of impact and that she really shouldn't be allowed to do that because it could really distract an opponent. Bravo for Razzano not letting that get to her.

Replying to myself (ah, the freedoms of not being on TWOP), how adorable is Ashleigh Barty! She's just cute as a button.

I'd reply to myself repeatedly, but I am trying to temper my comeback.
Ashleigh Barty is a cutie...but this invasion of 12 year olds has to stop. I'm aging by the second.
I'm torn on rewatching Serena's match. I know she's not always the most popular, but I love her. I just do. And Vee. Dammit.

Aw. The Road to Roland Garros. There happened to be one from last year that's now prophetic. Li Na had been asked what she'd do if she won the French Open. Up Close and Personal with Kuznetsova. She's told Marat Safin that she'd dreamed of kissing him when she was a teenager.
