That's a really good point--and if he doesn't back down and more people start pointing that out then all the work the ATP players council did to get the early losers more money would be thrown right out. The tournaments wanted the big bucks to go to the winners (so they could hand over a ridiculous amount of money at the trophy ceremony and say "look at how much we're giving this guy!") so they would use his own argument to say they should keep it that way and not giving more money to the Qualifiers and first round guys.
eta: Oh Roger. I like Benneteau but I will not be okay with you losing. . . Fer is out (I like Malisse so I'm not crying) and Max/Daniel lost (which I'm not good with. Not even a little bit.).

What is in the drinking water at Wimby? Roddick's still in; Rafa is out. Nole dropped a set. Now Roger is down two sets. WTF!

It really is 2009 French Open all over again. Same thing happened to Roger after Rafa lost (and I can totally see the same comeback happening).
I wouldn't say I believe in del Potro on grass but the draw allows the possibility of a good run. I don't believe Roddick will beat Ferrer playing the way he has so far in the tournament. Ferrer is actually well prepared for a Roddick match this time, having faced a big serving serve-and-volley (Brown) and a giant bomber (De Schepper).
ETA: Regarding Simon: the only way I go along with the argument is at Slams where it's best of 5. Equal work, equal pay. Popularity isn't the issue, as that goes in waves in this sport and Simon himself is not a good crowd draw.
Good fight from Benneteau in the fourth set.

Hee. They just showed the graphic of the seeds left in each quarter. Everybody's gone--except in Murray's quarter where every single seed is left alive. Even when he catches a break he can't catch a break.
I'm sorry for Benneteau cramping but so very happy that Roger gutted that one out. The fourth set was such a nail-biter from 4 games all.

I do see you- point breezy, but fala made my following point bette- than I could have. Demand is based on sta-dom, and that is an elusive quality. I like to watch Simon just fine, but I'd always rathe- watch(and pay to) Tsonga, as a gender neutral example. Oh, and also while I want equal pay at the Slams I also very! much want the winne-s to get less and the ea-ly round folks to get more. That is so impo-tant I think, and he could be fucking that up in a way.
I'm still mad/sad about Nadal, and now Fed, WTF don't give me a heart attack buddy. I accept that you aren't what you once we-e, almost 31, etc but 5th set against Benneteau? C'mon, and yes thank you, you won the 5th most convincingly, but don't GO the-e! And I don't want you to win because the othe- guy is c-amping, I wnat you to win. Which you did I guess, so okay, but don't let it happen again young man, you heard me. Gah.
Excellent win fo- Sam Q, eh? Too bad(to me), but nice job anyway. And a nice match, in defeat, to Sloane Stephens. This concludes my mandato-y po-tion of giving a shit about US playe-s. Because they'-e American dontcha know, and thus extra impo-tant to me. O- something.
Why yes, I was crabby last night, and I still am! Come back Nadal, come back old Fed, I miss you.
And aww, I wish my Dad was still watching tennis, Lisa raymond was always a big fave with him, and still seeded #1 in doubles, at an "antique" age.

Literally! There was a man in Roger's box who was biting his nails and then I realized I was biting my own. (Yes, Anna Wintour, I saw you too.)
I feel your pain, my friend. Here's hoping an Olympic medal awaits him in London -- that would be sweet revenge on those same grounds.

Hee. One thing that I really liked was that after Roger won and they showed his box you could see Paul Annacone and other coach (I'm guessing by the clothes) in deep conversation and gesturing. Getting ready for the next match--I hope Roger listens to what they have to say.
Speaking of clothes in the box, I noticed that Uniqlo has outfitted Djoker's team. I preferred the French where they were all wearing whatever old thing. The uniform thing freaks me out.

Just to be clear, it's not my point, it's Simon's. I just said that I sort of get what he is saying when viewed against the world of entertainment. I didn't say that womens should get less money. I don't think that they should. Also, he was referring to men's tournaments vs. women's tournaments not specific players vs. other specific players. I also agree that now is not the time for him to open his mouth about this issue.
On to Wimbledon. What a couple of days! I have only been watching in bits and pieces because I had two papers and a final exam this week but today was the exam so I watched Federer with my heart in my mouth. Wow.

I woke up this morning to a miracle: someone on the ESPN broadcast said something truly interesting. Granted, it was Darren Cahill, the Most-Likely-To-Be-Interesting of the gang.
Anyway, he said that he had observed from his work with Agassi that the very top players get super-identified with other top players' danger matches (like Rafa-Rosol.) Cahill said it was impossible to get them to stop watching matches like that, and that they came out for their own next matches flat.

So when you're the coach you have to pay attention to how the upsets are upsetting your own player. Makes sense.
Brian Baker! How excited am I for him? Love that he wanted to go watch the rest of Kohlschreiber/Rosol to get a game plan in place. I knew he wouldn't actually have the time what with all the post-match stuff he'd have to do but they later said that Baker's dad went out to do the scouting. Brian's taking this all very seriously and I love him for that.

Jie Zheng played rather well and made Serena earn it.

I thought that was just the test Serena needed. She fought for that win against a player well in form. It was good to see.
Andy came out laser sharp for that 1st set. Nice to see but he's now down a break in the 2nd.
Del Po's about to close his match out. I haven't been watching him, but is he playing well? I always love watching him hit the ball so powerfully. I'd love to see him in the final. I hope he stays uninjured.

From what I've seen of his matches, del Potro has times when he seems to remember he's playing on grass, if you get my drift. Due to that, I don't know who I'd favor. Interesting how their draws may come into play: del Potro will be facing his third consecutive player 5'10" and under, while Ferrer has only faced big servers.
I get the feeling this was Roddick's last Wimbledon, whether he admits it or not.

We had bad storms last night that knocked out our cable and internet. I woke up expecting to watch the Serena match, and I've been completely cut off (other than my cell phone) until about half an hour ago. TV is still down, but at least the internet is back up so I'm watching Cilic/Querrey on my laptop. I've been catching up on my DVR viewing (I watched the premier of The Newsroom. I recommend it if you haven't seen it already). I guess I can spend some time tomorrow catching up on what I missed today.

They're making me so nervous with all this curfew talk. Instead of looking at the points I'm thinking "go faster, go faster." What a mess next week will be if they have to hold up the bottom half. Too bad they couldn't have Murray/Baghdatis come back tomorrow to finish it off. . .
eta: PHEW! No messed-up schedule on Monday. i do have to agree with PMac that Baghdatis might have been a bit nice towards the end there, figuring he wouldn't win instead of battling to play on Monday.
