As crazy as the WTA has been, it just seemed obvious to pick Serena to win. All of the threats are on the other half of the draw!
It does seem likely with Ferrer's quarter there will be a surprise semifinalist. I think to the year Youzhny made the semis (2009?) due to a series of events and this feels like that kind of draw. Right now I have Isner as my pick to the SFs but I'm sure I'll change it.

Just a reminder that the US Open will be streaming matches for those who will stuck at work, like last year.
That's true. I think for Serena to lose, it pains me to say, Justine would have to come out of retirement. That would shake Serena up for sure. She never played her own game when she played against Justine and that's why she'd always lose. I don't mind Serena winning. The more grand slams she gets the better.
Thinking I want Roger to win this. That'd be pretty cool. If not him then Andy. I'd say Tsonga but I don't he'll ever win one unless everyone is injured or until he hires a coach.
Can't wait for tomorrow.

I have Murray winning my men's bracket and Venus getting to the semis of my women's bracket. I'm not particularly confident about either result. Truth be told, they're sentimental choices more than anything else, although if Venus gets past Kerber (a HUGE if) it could happen. As for Murray, It's difficult to know how he will look in the late stages of this tournament, although his recent early loss doesn't really trouble me. Although there are clear favorites on both sides, there's still quite a lot to think about. Here are some of the expert blurbs: ESPNtennis.comSI

I've been picking Murray to win HC and grass majors for several years. I'd be dumb to change that "winning" strategy now.
Safarova/Oudin on Armstrong? Really? As soon as the draw came out, I figured Federer/Young would be the men's Opening Night match though Kim being the other is a surprise.

Fer officially has too much hair. (my first observation from the Open.) He also has too much shirt. . .

Heh! This is the kind of hard-hitting reporting I expect from on-sight correspondents. I suggest you dig deeper and get to the bottom fo the shirt problem. Clearly there's something there that needs to be uncovered.

PAT RAFTER! Matthew Edben was practicing with Fer (I only knew that because I zoomed in on his coach's badge) and the guy with them looked awful cute so I looked closer. It was Rafter, yum!
Okay, Fer is done and he never did take his shirt off but he did hike his shorts up a la Feli and stretched his quads--that was nice. Fer is way smaller than he was a couple of years ago. He looks good, I'll see how he plays later today.

I'm amazed that Sam's match went so fast. It was also tough to tell from the crowd that it was the defending champ playing.

Hee, drizzle, drizzle, drizzle DOWNPOUR!!! Good thing I spent the extra five bucks for Ashe since I'm under an overhang but, dang, my feet are wet.
Yes, harry, Fer is Verdasco. I call Ferrer "David" but he is Ferru also.
Awwww, I'm at the Lisicki/Cirstea third set and Gil Teyes just walked kn but there are no seats for him--it's all full. Okay, they gave him one of the press seats. I don't know who they kicked out for him to get a seat. Meanwhile, coirt is finally dry but the radar shlws more rain coming.
And on my more usual shallow note: both Cirstea and Lisicki are wearinb really good, colorful, oitfits.

Randomly, I'm sitting behind Fer's girfriend and in the midst of his camp. Does that mean I can't take a million pictures?

Okay, so if anyone watches his match and they show his people, I'm the one wearing a Brewers visor. . .

Well I heard that too, moon. It seems she is playing all 3 events, though I haven't looked up who he- women's doubles is with.
