Whoa, the American men doubles teams are kicking ass and taking names. I'm glad for DY. Sorry to lose some of the nice top doubles guys, though.
Hmm, interesting that the women players who are dating golf pros (Woz and Hantuchova) are doing poorly. I'm trying to contort that fact into some version of the revenge against Martina Hingis, The Black Widow.

Dolgopolov has now won 12 of the last 13 games to even up the match against Levine. Alex needs to wake up sooner than two games from defeat.

I love the dress Serena is wearing. I think it's the best one she's worn in a long time, not too much jiggling from the boobs, and the style is nice.

That annoyed look Serena gave when she lost the matchpoint at 40-15 was priceless. She didn't play the point poorly, it was just that Coco (who's no slouch when she's hitting her shots) just had her on the run for that one point. Meanwhile, Serena clearly felt like she should be in complete control of everything, and she was not amused. If that level of confidence continues for Serena, we could see another juggernaut performance like the Olympics.
I wish Coco had been playing better, because she acquitted herself really well in the Stanford final, and could have made this a good match.

Will be at the Open today. When I did the bracket, I didn't even realize that Ferrer had drawn easily the toughest first round match of the high seeds. I don't think that will be a quick match at all.
The lucky loser is among the group of Rosol, Berankis, Bautista-Agut and Serra. There are already reports claiming it's Serra playing del Potro even though there won't be an official announcement until 1030am. I sincerely hope those reports are wrong.

Wasn't that something? I roared. And I agree about her dress. Smashing color and I loved the accents. I still don't love the skirts she chooses but I don't know what would be better so I have to let that go. I'd like it to be Rosol (obviously) but he lost awfully early in the qualifying. Have a great time today and take notes. Hmmm, as for Ferrer and Anderson I'm going to have to root for Kevin. I've been a fan for so long and I'd love for him to do something. However, I don't think he has a shot. He really hasn't been playing all that well this summer. eta: Oh boy. I just got an e-mail from the Sony Open that is a little unnerving. In order to make enhancements to the grounds they want to build some new permanent structures, but because of the regulations of Key Biscayne any permanent structures have to be voted on by the public. All the money needed would be paid by the tournament but you know how a politician can be if they want to convince people they don't want it. The only reason the US Open is still in New York is because David Dinkins was the mayor at the time of the refurbishment. His opposition was determined to convince the voters that it was taxpayer money that was paying for it instead of the bonds and corporate money that actually did pay for it. I really like that Miami tournament and I would hate for it to leave. It has established itself as the pseudo-South American Slam and the diversity amongst the fans is glorious.

Anyone know what's up with Gael Monfils? For some reason I'm just now missing him from the last three major competitions.
ETA: Dinkins certainly took a lot of flack for supporting the USO in NYC. I had just moved here and experienced my first evening USO match. It was such a thrill for this long-time tennis fan that I told anyone who would listen that it must be saved.

I believe he's been dealing with a knee injury, and you're right, he has been out of commission for some time.
Hope you're having a good time, moon! Fill us in on the goings-on if you can!

Wow, it's like every player is determined to show Fowler and Gilbert why best-of-five means playing until you've won--I can't believe Tommy Haas is currently in a fifth set after leading Gulbis by two sets and a break. Does two sets and a break mean nothing anymore?

No, no, I want Kim to go far -- but she's down a set and it's 3-4 in the second. Yikes!

I'm so torn. . .I want Kim to win because I want her last Open to be a real triumph but I have really come to like Robson's game so I don't want her out in the 2nd round.
For anyone with Sirius/XM radio, ESPN is broadcasting the US Open Radio (just like they did for Radio Wimbledon--which I didn't realize until the final). I tried it out on a whim during my commute tonight and, yeah!, there it is. Channel 85 (the ESPN Xtra channel that usually broadcasts the audio from what is on ESPN).
For those who have watched this match on TV, have they shown the Robson Clowns? I heard their chant while I was listening on the radio so I know they're there.
eta: each time one of them hits a winner I want that person to win. If this goes three, expect to see the courtside seats fill up because they'll give out passes to the people in the Promenade so they can start cleaning up for the night session.

Sad to see Kim gone out of singles, hope she gets far in the doubles and mixed. Impressed with Laura for holding on and getting this win. I hope she keeps up this form.
Hope Serena's ankle isn't a serious issue.
