My thoughts exactly.
What's wrong with Serena's ankle? Did something happen in their doubles match?

Damn, I got a little teary eyed. I've always liked Kim -- perhaps because I'm a Kim(berly) too and was glad she got away from Hewitt. Then she was in the shadow of Justine for a long time yet remained poised and pleasant. Well done, Kim, well done.
Thanks for the Monfils update, falafaclese She turned her ankle and had to have a trainer check it out.

Serena hyper extended it or rolled it. But you know she has it tapped so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. She had the trainer tape over her own tape and then in the 2nd got an ankle brace from the trainer. But the commentators were saying it was so hot that the tape had probably loosened, so that's why she got the brace.
And since I don't care to watch Isner's matches did Xavier start cursing up a storm and berating Carlos Ramos and yelling at the crowd?
LZ is back at the ESPN desk. I still don't see what he brings and his voice is not TV friendly. He should keep to writing for ESPN.

Is that the black guy that was on yesterday? I missed who he was. I totally agree about his voice. He didn't have anything particularly scintillating to say that I heard either, at least so far. Who is he?
ETA: Big props to Petra K for wearing a much more attractive, supportive top for the Open. Way to go, Petra! Oh, and nice win today too.

Yeah that's LZ. He did a piece on Sloane and he did the voice over, horrible. It's nice to see a black person at the desk but...maybe he should stick to on court interviews.

Ooooh, what did you hear? And after liking how John was playing this spring he has regressed back to "big serve/wait for the other guy to make a mistake" tennis that I dislike so much.
I really hate when the commentators don't know how the Open works. Brad just said that he expected the night people to come into the Grandstand while they were waiting for the night session to start: you can't get into Armstrong or Grandstand with a night ticket until much later when the crowds have completely thinned out. They shut the gates and only allow day tickets in.
Yeah, and not a fan of LZ either. I was shocked to find out back when we saw him the first time (when was that? French? Wimbledon?) that he wasn't some random blogger and that he had a well-established writing career.
I haven't seen her today but after seeing her a New Haven, thank goodness! That was way bad. Speaking of, Kim's support was incredible--way better than even Serena's. And I love Kim's husband. The entire time post match he was shooting her "I love you, I'm sorry you lost but you are the best" looks.
eta: well, I just looked at tomorrow's schedule and I sure know how I'm spending most of my day tomorrow. Feli starting the day off (which, thank goodness, finally get some daytime pictures of him) and then I'll go see some of Kim play doubles and then Fer is on the same court. I do want to see Dolgo play his doubles match but he's way on the other side of the grounds at the same time. I want to see Ebden play Chardy so I can see if Ebden will be someone I can follow (and seeing Rafter again is a huge plus).
Wow! Looks like the doubles upsets on the men's side have continued--Ebden and Tomic beat Bhupathi and Bopanna. That's another big one!

If you're talking about that guy they had during Wimbledon, I had exactly the same reaction. He was just sort of there, and didn't seem to bring anything new or interesting to the table. What is interesting though, is that we've all had similar independent reactions to him.

Well Malisse is trending on Twitter. He screamed at the crowd to shut the fuck up.
Called a lines person a jackass.
Told Carlos "You guys screw up and I get the code violation...I mess up, I pay. You mess up and what happens? You guys are hilarious."
"Same every match, we get 20 seconds, Nadal gets 45 seconds."
Yelling at some fan in the stands, "Shut your fucking face, man. He got lucky. He's not going to be smiling much longer."
And I'm sure there's more.

Whoa. . . that's like old Malisse--the dating Capriati Malisse. I thought we were rid of him for good. But this:
heh.

Okay, that's pretty funny. And it's nice to know Rafa's presence is still felt at the Open.

That is such a random thing to say. Good one, X.
Just got home and I have a couple of good attitude issues. I didn't have Ashe seats (so missed X) but I was in prime seats for Dimitrov's bitch fest. In the middle of having some sort of issue with his foot, he was fuming over a serve called an ace. He's in a state of shock but doesn't actually complain, just goes on to the ad point. After that, he calls for the tournament ref over it and the chair (a woman, I might add) is trying her hardest not to outright laugh in his face. The ball kids in the area turned away from the court but they were laughing. I know that Paire had his own temper issues earlier in the match but during those games he was happily oblivious.
I also got to see Troicki, after defeat, leave the court by slamming his racquet into the top of the gate - and it got stuck there! It took a good few minutes to unlodge it.
I was at the Haas-Gulbis match for the second set and until Haas went up a break in the third. I know the game after I left was when Gulbis broke back because I was eating at a table outside Court 17 with a clear view of the scoreboard. While I figured Gulbis would win that set, I was still in a state of shock when it was some time later and look at the main board outside Ashe and discover Gulbis was serving for the match!
The people around that same board as Clijsters' match ended was amazing. We were all so loud as the end neared closer - and keep in mind I am a Robson fan, so I was both happy and sad about it.
I can also say I finally experienced a Williams sisters match and, while I've always known their fans are vocal at this event, giving the general admission a chance to see them leads to chaos. I made my move over there when Dellacqua was up 4-1 in the second on Li. Well, I saw Lindsay and Megan up to 3-1 in the first (I left due to other matches, having already wasted a lot of time on this endeavor with the lines). The crowd was highly impressed with "that little girl" Megan Moulton-Levy, who at 5 feet is probably the shortest pro I've ever seen, period, but she's 27 so not someone I'd call a "girl".

Thanks, fala for the article. I watched Bethanie's Tennisology episode and it was an interesting look into her life. Her workouts were insane. I really like her and hope she recovers fully from her injuries and comes back stronger next year.
And thanks, moon, for the onsite reporting. All these temper tantrums. And the image of the ball boys turning their backs to laugh is hilarious to me.

Been keeping up with things but have not been able to catch any tennis except the nightly snooze fests. Home this AM and had hoped Breakfast at The Open on TC would give me a glimpse if some of the good stuff I missed. Nope, Murray's beatdown of Dodig. Ugh
Will be unable to watch anything live for most of the day, I hope that I catch something remotely competitive.

I've always had a soft spot for Bethanie as well so it was such a bummer when she got injured just as she was at her peak and riding the wave of being, briefly, the top American woman. If any female player was made for the Olympics experience, it's Bethanie.
