Finally. ANother woman on the tour who obviously WANTS it as much as Serena. So happy for that. Really, really happy for that.
(Now go fix that screeching.)

Poor Vika. She played a great match. That could have gone either way. I feel like they have been equally dominant at different times this year. I know realistically speaking it's hard to argue against Serena being considered the best on the tour, but I have no problem with Vika's ranking given the year that she's had. Serena will probably get there, of course, But Vika is admirably capable of living up to her success, and recent history has proved that that is never a given. Serena's really the only player she's had a real problem with this year.
Congrats to Serena! She really stayed strong against a strong opponent.

The thing about Serena is that she's put tennis in the right place in her life and has extended her career for so many years because of it. She might not be #1, and she might not deserve to be because of how much she plays, but that isn't what matters--being the best and loving her sport is. Good for her for that.
I feel so badly for Vika. This one is going to hurt for a really long time, like Andy-Murray long. She has to close out these matches against Serena. And I think I might be a little deaf from the ecstatic reaction from the crowd. They sure do love their Serena. . .
Now, on to tomorrow. So nervous. The winner will deserve the player-of-the-year accolades and I don't want it to be Novak two years in a row. But if Novak makes Andy pissy it could get ugly quick.

I was watching earlier but once Serena lost serve in the 3rd I turned it off and couldn't imagine Serena coming back. Now I'm online and see that Serena won! I didn't know how much I wanted her to win until I couldn't stand seeing her lose serve and lose the US Open to Vika. Great showing from Vika and amazing come back from Serena. I'm so happy for Serena.

If you get a chance to watch that third set, skyz, I recommend it! (You'll enjoy the last four games!)

So I follow Vika on twitter, and at about 10pm last night, she tweeted the following:
Then, at about 3am this morning she tweeted again:
Not like this is some kind of poetic statement, but it affected me somehow. I wonder what you do the night after you lose a hard-fought major final? One thing you have to say about Vika, is she fights out there like her life depends on it. It must be killing her. I know she'll bounce back. I hope there's no lasting effect.

But in between those two tweets is "redfoo let's do this... i'm ready" so methinks she might have been out partying w/the LMFAO front man, not crying into her pillow. Which btw I fully support. On the red foo front (yes, I know how ridiculous I sound) I am a gossip monger thru and thru so I know not everyone knows this but he is Berry Gordy's youngest son. So despite his outlandish get up it is not very surprising that a music mogul's CA raised son has an interest in tennis. Anybody in Vegas who can report back re" Party Rock Open ?

awwww, you're right. You can just put yourself into what she must be going through. Couldn't sleep, pacing the room, restless. I hope you're right about bouncing back and it having no lasting effect. I'm guessing David went through a bunch of "why didn't they move us to Armstrong on Saturday?!?"-type wailings. eta: Anna Chlumsky is a fan of Andy Murray's. I totally would have picked going to the Open over going to Fashion Week, but eh, that's not a surprise.

I thought I couldn't like her anymore and now find she is a tennis fan She is fantastic on VEEP. So nice to see a functional (seemingly) former child star.

I don't think Vika has anything to really lose sleep over. Based on the Sunday play, I would bet Ferrer didn't sleep Saturday night.
Yet another reason to love Anna Chlumsky. But it reminds me of something interesting about this final: the Murray fan club has been gaining rather vocal American passengers since the Wimbledon final while Djokovic has issues with the NY crowd rooting against him. I can see the crowd getting to Novak if Andy starts well... which basically needs to happen for Andy to win.

Everyone should know it since I believe it was Pammy who held one of her ill-timed audience interviews with father and son for about 15 minutes during one of the men's matches. It was either the Federer/Berdych match or Murray/Cilic I think. Not either of the Gordy's fault but it was damned annoying. Does she not realise that millions are screaming "shut up Pam" at their TV's when she does this?

I didn't know Berry Sr had made the trip to NY. I have a soft spot for him despite his mega shady ways because he looks like my grandfather. One ill timed Pammy interview I did catch was w/ Roddick's mom and I loved that she consented to be interviewed but gave her one word answers!

I hope you're right, francie. That would make me feel much better, and she seems like the type who can party. I'd prefer a little of that rather than her beating herself up. That redfoo guy is apparently a big tennis fan. I saw a video of him hitting the tennis ball somewhere and he seems quite good. Also, he's launching a tennis wear line, so that may be a partial explanation for his sudden increased visibility relative to tennis.

Vika has grown on me so I hope that her omg post was because of too much Dom Rose. And I didn't know about the clothing line but I know red foo is sponsoring what was Lexus Open in Vegas. So I really wasn't kidding in my request to have someone give us dispatches from Party Rock Open.

Wait, they're bringing back a tournament in Las Vegas? I loved that tournament--tennis all day, gambling all night (okay, no, gambling until I was tired and then I went back to my room). Also, that was the tournament where I sat at the blackjack table with Jonas Bjorkmann but didn't talk to him.
I hope that "omg" was for the partying--she deserved it and it would make me feel better that she wasn't beating herself up over getting broken two times in a row to lose the match.
Interestingly, the crowd was pretty behind David on Saturday but I don't know if those people gave/sold their tickets to Djoker fans because it was a very pro-Nole crowd on Sunday. Which Djoker enjoyed (as well he should). I don't know who's turning up today. I know there are a lot of tickets out there to buy--I just did a quick ticketmaster thing and they offered me a loge seat (still going to watch on my couch. . . ) so the Djoker fans might be in force, or the Andy fans. Who knows?
eta: falafaclese, I didn't realize until I was looking at my pictures today but Colette was the one carrying Serena's bag last night! She had some day yesterday! During the women's doubles final ceremony it was Collette who was directing the other flag bearers on where to stand, etc. She's the bestest.
