I'm glad Andy didn't lose too but Tomic gave the last set away, which was appalling. And oddly enough I'm not that nostalgic about Andy. I guess him being gone off and on for injuries these past two years made it easier to see him go. I'll always have to laugh when he just goes running up to the net like a charging bull and no finesse. He does seem like a nice guy but his tennis was never as good as it could have been and that's a shame.
Turns out Tomic admitted to not even trying in press: "Q: McEnroe said your effort in final set was borderline not trying...thoughts about that? TOMIC: Well, I think he's probably right."
Turned the channel when Vika came on. Love Zheng but nope, can't watch.
They had some good long matches today. Anyone watch Stan and Darcis? Darcis looked like he'd hurt his shoulder by the end of the match. Couldn't even shake hands with the ump.
And I'm loving that they're having more and more lady umpires for the men's matches. Progress.

Programming note! With CBS taking over coverage for the weekend I was hoping and crossing fingers that CBSportsNetwork would have the Open as well as CBS and they do! They start at 11am tomorrow with an hour of "At the Open" before. CBS starts tomorrow at noon but they have the Notre Dame game from Ireland before so I would expect that to go a bit over. Hopefully that means I'll get to see Andy/Feli since I'm assuming CBS will be sticking with Serena's match.

I just learned via Twitter (thanks, you guys) that Maria S broke up with her fiance a few months ago. She said she was expecting to be asked about it by the press, but no one did.

That's too bad. It seemed to be kind of a cool relationship. Of course I know next to nothing about either of them, but hell, I can still judge.
Vika is usually so grim and almost mannish on the court, it was weird to see her trying to charm during her post-match interview. Also, the dancing freaked me out. I don't know why I like her, I can see why a lot of people find her hard to warm up to, because her attitude during matches can only be described as prickly, but I find something about her likeable. Yes I know, it makes no sense. Maybe it's the same thing that keeps me liking Serena.

I'm right there with you about Vika. And she is usually giggly off the court--we just usually don't get to hear it. She seemed super-psyched to get her first night Ashe match.

Does anyone know who the Scottish(?) announcer is on the Almagro/Sock match? He certainly loves the sound of his own voice.

Why am I so jinxed when it comes to getting to watch Feli on television? Two channels, no Andy/Feli. None of the streams are working and I cannot stand Almagro and couldn't care less about Sock so this is just misery for me right now.
eta: wait, according to the live scores, they haven't started yet. . . I wonder why.

I don't have DirecTV--I have the evil empire of cable--Cablevision.
However, I finally got the USOpen stream to work--just in time for Lopez to have break points!

Oops, forgot about your evil empire, lt. Tikiboy switched us from Dish Network to DirecTV while I was out of town (do NOT get me started), and while I think Dish is much better overall, DirecTV is great for tennis.
Anyone think Lopez has a shot here?
