I haven't seen anything yet between my 2pm- 10pm work schedule and watching Hurricane Isaac - just recording so far - but I will have to get into it. Not happy at all about JWT that's for sure. However now I'll have to check the schedule so I can record Sloane Stephens and see how she's doing. Glad Roger seems to be having no problems at this point.
I don't suppose Serena's glare at losing that match point made it to Youtube anywhere?
So I wonder when Roddick's last match may be. Will see his draw.

So glad to see Venus up 4-3 in the 3d*. Nothing against Angelique, but I'm al-eady all sad about JWT and Haas, and Davy too(And Kim, not that I expected he- to win, I just hate to see he- go.)
No shock about Andy, guys been beat up lately, and this is the logical place fo- him to finish up.
*Now on se-ve, c'mon Venus!

It's not that it's a surprise that Andy would end it here - it's the timing of the announcement. My guess was that he wouldn't say it until the last match happened... unless he's going for an Agassi-like end. That said, I absolutely do not want Tomic to be the one to end it... and I would love for the crowd at Venus/Kerber to show up there.
I was actually not even watching tennis when I heard. I was sitting in a bar waiting for a meeting to start when the scroll appeared. Would have been a mess if I'd seen the press conference then.
Would it be safe to say that Kerber is everything critics wanted Wozniacki to be?

It's fairly amazing that Venus hung in there with that horrific 1st set and her serve going walk about. She's still got it, but she needs to start closing these matches out. She led at the Olympics and then led in the 3rd 5-4. Her serve is screwing her over. But it was a good match and the crowd was, for the first time it seemed, truly behind Venus which was nice to see. Tough loss. But she's still in doubles and 2013 I hope will be better. I hope she doesn't get too down on herself over this loss.
And I can't stand Kerber. Maybe it's her racquet clapping that I feel is completely insincere.

Fascinating interview with Fish on Tennis Channel, set up regarding his win over Davydenko but occuring shortly after Roddick's press conference. It articulated the reasons he had such issues once he became the top American player, dealing with all the people you let down and the press conferences that never meant anything before (all stuff that Roddick has had for the last ten years).

As someone not rooting for or against Venus I hated that crowd. Cheering for double faults will never be a good thing--you're supposed to clap silently (my cousin and I always do the index-finger clapping for those). However, Roger made a point (twice!--once in his on court interview and then again when he visited the ESPN set) that the crowd had better be behind Andy for his match tonight and that he hoped it wouldn't be Andy's last match. He said he wanted Andy to be able to play "during Labor Day weekend." Roger has sure been in our country for a lot of US Opens--Labor Day means nothing to him as a Swiss man, but he knows that's what this crazy middle weekend of the Open is about.

Oh I didn't like the Venus/Kerber crowd either (I inadvertantly deleted that part of my comment). Even as a Venus fan, I thought they were too far. That said, I do dislike Tomic that much to want that crowd to show tonight.

Speaking of Tomic, I did go to Ebden's match yesterday hoping that I could get behind an Aussie ('cause it ain't going to be Tomic). Eh, he appeared to be injured (a trainer came out and worked on his neck) so I really don't know but he didn't appear to be doing so good. Some good random shots but no consistency. Chardy had no trouble with him.

Li Na and Robson tied at a set apiece. The third should be a good one.

Oh, please, Na, come on already!!!
(I mean, I like Robson, but I WUV Li.)
ETA: Oh, dear, they showed a closeup of the umpire and she has a big band-aid on her forehead. If I suddenly had my face on closeup on TV I'm sure I would have a band-aid (or a giant zit or a piece of pepperoni) on my forehead too, so I feel for her.

It's a good thing I like Laura because I'm getting a bit annoyed by her knocking out GS champs I like. I thought Li Na would make a big run here.
...and yes, I do realize next round she'll be going for three GS winners in a row! I still don't like Zeljko as a person but I cannot deny the results.

I will miss Andy, but not his play. I just soak up his agitation. But I want him to win (though I confess to not being keyed in to the source of the bad feelings about Tomic).

I liked the idea of Andy (intelligent wise-ass) more than the execution. But he deserves credit for a great career.

I confess that I was hoping Roddick wouldn't lose to this guy - and I'm more than pleased how well he started the match - but now I'm wondering why Tomic didn't show up. This is truly pathetic for a player who usually likes the big stage. For his game to regress is one thing but the attitude being this poor is sad. He's making Donald Young look good (who at least did fight for awhile before losing his head).

Can you imagine how much of an asshole Zelkjo must be to be able to get those kind of results out of three very different players and still not be able to hold onto any of them?
