And were the commentators trying to convince us they (there was a second guy they lead away in the stands, right?) were after Rafa as opposed to just being stupid assholes? They do love to create a story when one doesn't really exist.

Ah well, I was hoping for 4 sets, and for a minute there when David had break point at 3-3(?I think it was), it even seemed quite possible. I hope he can look back and just be pleased and proud that he made a GS Final.
Nadal is just too much on clay, almost always. I mean, he is the best clay court player of all time, and that's no accident. He just is, has been for ys, and all he does is keep piling on the proof. Good luck to anyone who has to play him at the FO.

Shallow note: David Ferrer has such a lovely voice. He did not seem to understand JMac's question about the protester.
Lol at Rafa first misunderstanding JMac's question and thinking he was asking about USain at first. Once he actually understood the question- it showed how much his English has gotten better through the years.
Not on NBC- they just said they were protesting something and then- rightly imo- said that it can scare and rattle players because of lack of security and what happened to Seles.
I think the commentators are right to be concerned if someone can run out onto a court in sports event- with Seles and with other things that have happend at sports events- such as the awful Boston Marathon. And what happened at the Egyptian soccer stadium.
There were several people in the stand and two jackasses that ran down- one on the court with a flare and another one who was alongside the court.
They also brought up the doofus that put the hat on Federer a few years ago.

I heard Mary (on NBC) say that the guy was going straight for Rafa and "they didn't know he was aiming for Rafa but. . . " Maybe she backed off after that, I stopped listening at that point.

I watched only the first set of the final today, and I'm so disappointed David couldn't get a set, but I was feeling so happy for him to have made his first Grand Slam final. It's a tremendous accomplishment. I've grown so fond of him over the past few years.
Congratulations to the Great Rafa and to the Great Serena.

I heard Mary (on NBC) say that the guy was going straight for Rafa and "they didn't know he was aiming for Rafa but. . . " Maybe she backed off after that, I stopped listening at that point. I thought it was just in the spur of the moment when she said when it happened at that point you don't know what's happening and players don't know if i is a person running towards a player, etc. or what can happen. I imagine things like that can be scary. And tennis has that awful Seles incident We can disagree- I didn't think Mary was trying to "convince us" that the guy was going after Rafa at all- she was just 1) trying to figure out what happened when it did and 2) trying to relate how it can be scary to players and 3) how freaking scary it is that with security guys like that can still get on court. Mary C was always very fond of Seles- and yesterday she was lamenting what had happened to Seles and what could have been if that asshole had not stabbed her. I don't think she was just stirring the pot. Seems like I am back in my ususal spot here- defending anything as it relates to Rafa. Lol- II'll leave you all to your peace.

I don't think Rafa thinks the guy was after him--as a matter of fact, was he running towards the problem? I thought he was going to help the security guards. What I think is that Mary was doing what she always does, creates a story when what is in front of her is already a story.

Freaking bigots. I'm glad that happened on the winner's side so that the inevitable drop in play didn't affect the outcome. Unlike the semi, I couldn't really take sides in this match-up.
Heh I hope Rafa's smarter than to go help the security guards.

Mary is a case. That we don't get constant apologies from her regarding her treatment of Serena over the years is enough to infuriate me on the spot.
For someone with seemingly quick instincts, his choice to move toward the locker room baffled me. It was the most emotion out of me all match: "the other way, Rafa! the other way!"
