Nope, Tsonga's best game is not built on defense. Especially against a guy live David.

Ugh. Guess I'll keep an eye on the score on Sunday and if David does what he's NEVER DONE BEFORE I might actually watch but since I doubt that'll happen looks like my Sunday just free'ed up a bit.

I was expecting a bit more fight from Tsonga in this match. I'm thrilled for the wee Ferru but it would have been so nice for Frenchman to make the final agin.

On Radio Roland Garros they were saying that Novak had asked for the court to be watered during a set but that had to be approved by both players in order for it to happen and Rafa said no. Rafa wasn't wrong to say that since he saw how that affected Novak but I'm guessing Djoker might be a bit pissed.

Well, that 2nd semi was mighty disappointing. And now we have what looks to be the most boring and non-competitive final possible. Not because David's not good, he's excellent ..... but he's not in Nadal's league, not his game, and definitely no confidence against him. Eh.

Wow, that second semi was a crushing downer. My heart aches for JWT (as much as it can ache for a wildly successful, beloved, wealthy professional athlete). Yeah, I'm going to follow your lead on that, lt.
This tournament might set a record for lopsided finals.
We might have an over-under bet on whether the losers will win more than four games combined.

We don't actually know how Ferrer will react to being in a Grand Slam final so can we stop with the obituary? If he uses a recent match as motivation, Francesca Schiavone beating Stosur would be a very good point of reference. Remember that she couldn't beat a Top 10 player to save her life prior to that run, Stosur was favored due to beating all the big names in the draw and Francie played the match of her life.
I mean, this isn't as lopsided as a Williams-Errani match. We know that David can play close sets with Rafa, it's the big points that cause issue.

Very true Mooncreek. It really is all about the big points with Nadal and Ferrer. They just played in the quarterfinals of Madrid and Rome and those matches were anything but lopsided so I'm not sure why we'd expect to see that here. I realize that Nadal is the heavy favourite but I'll be surprised if we see a score like the Eranni/Williams match and I'll also be surprised if we don't see some good tennis.

I don't think it's David being in GS Final, I think it's Nadal. But absolutely I would love to see good tennis, and should he win I'll be thrilled. I'm not against the guy, I don't think he sucks, just that Nadal has too much. I mean, I think Serena might wipe out Maria too. I'll be happy to be wrong, though in the women's I absolutely want Serena to win, just not a blow-out.

Hard not to be disappointed by the two matches today - for antithetical reasons, I guess. First to see Nole push so hard and then have to lose. Then to see someone cave to the extent that he did. I had hoped that JWT would change my opinion of him today - I so want him to - but it's hard to see him wither in this fashion repeatedly. And I mean that it is truly physically hard to watch - I have to look away.
Let's hope tomorrow's event helps ease the distaste after today. I won't go there about Sunday - the psychological history between them certainly doesn't bode well. I want someone who can stay psychologically fierce against Rafa much as Nole did today - and will hope to see that Sunday from Ferrer.

I mean, this isn't as lopsided as a Williams-Errani match. We know that David can play close sets with Rafa, it's the big points that cause issue. I agree. I am a Ferru fan and thrilled that he made his first grand slam final and I see a lot of people saying is that they won't watch because David made the final. Poor fellow is pushed aside again. Granted- he has not beaten Rafa on clay- but very few people have. Jo certainly has not. Their last match on clay was very close. As you said- it was the big points. I look at it this way- he got thumped by Nadal in Mexico- came close to a win in Madrid- and now may take the next step. And- he has beaten Rafa TWICE at grand slams (once at Oz once at USO). Different surface, different round- but that may give him some confidence. I am rooting for Ferru pretty hard on Sunday. (I think I would have rooted for Jo as well). I am as you guys may recall a big Rafa fan- but I really want this for Ferru. I will be happy if Nadal wins- but oh goodness- would be thrilled for Ferru. So I would be more sad for Ferru if he loses than for Nadal if he loses- by a boat load. I do think Ferru has a better chance than Maria- that may not mean much but there you have it. Nole is so fierce in the head. He is so hard to defeat- and I think in turn that makes it hard for the top guys to beat him. It seems that he is more likely to lose to guys who are not at the very top and have nothing to lose. And it seems like Nole can also shake off losses- for example= lost versus Murray at USO and then came back to win Oz. I feel that Nole gets more in the head of Rafa (has a condo there), Muzz and Feds about 20x than they do in his. That is one of his strenghts.

And it makes for good tennis.
Caving against someone psychologically and not being able to play up to your own level makes me shield my eyes. Or go do errands as I did for today's second match.
OT: I wish grass season were longer. I'm so ready for it!

He did actually. The very first match they ever played was on clay in Germany back in 2004. Ferrer won 6-3, 6-7, 7-5. What was Nadal then? 18?

He did actually. The very first match they ever played was on clay in Germany back in 2004. Ferrer won 6-3, 6-7, 7-5. What was Nadal then? 18? Oh yes- true. ;D So Ferru has beaten Rafa on clay, has beaten him on grand slams and despite what a lot of folks say- can play Rafa tough. He plays tougher against Rafa than he does against Feds and Nole imo- I don't think Rafa occupies as much head space in Ferru's noggin as is often portrayed. Yes, Feds has a whole apartment complex in Ferru's brain but I don't think Rafa does as much as is often said. I actually think it is quite unfair and a disservice to Ferru the way he is said to be weak against Nadal- he has fought...and won. So I think he has a chance gosh darn! If it is wet- which it looks like it may be- Ferru's FH could trouble Rafa's BH as it has in the matches Ferru has won. And with the balls not bouncing as high- and Ferrer's short backswing...Who knows? I don't know...I just have a feeling that an upset might happen. It reminds me of when Delpo was written off with very little chance against Fed at the 2009 USO and look what happened.

Well Chesty, my fingers are crossed right along with you. Nothing would thrill me more than to see David finally win a slam. Just having him make it to the final is exciting.
