Here's Jon Wertheim's take on the first round: First-round matches to watch Wawrinka-Kohlschreiber: This has five-setter written all over it.
Mónaco-Söderling: Two strong, feisty players.
Gustavo Kuerten-Paul-Henri Mathieu: Not because Kuerten will win, but because it will mark your last chance to see a legend.
Arnaud Clement-Gaël Monfils: French overachiever versus French underachiever.
Robredo-Coria: Potentially a strong "I'm back" statement for Coria.
Blue-plate upset special: Coria over Robredo.
Over-under on withdrawals/retirements: 10

I hope Jon is right with his upset special.
Interestingly, he has Ferru beating Feds in the semis and then losing to Rafa in the final. I really do like David but I do not see that happening. He really seems to have something going on with him that is taking the fight out of him. And when he loses his fight- he loses. That plus the fact that he does also seem to lose his fight against Fed (and Nole) as a general rule anyway does not give me great faith.
Steve Tignor (of Tennis Magazine) also has Feds losing in the semis - to Davydenko. Again, I don't really see that happening. Davy tends to fold in the big moments (outside of Miami this year) and he had a great chance against Feds last year at RG and could not capitalize.
I am thinking Feds will make it to the final again.

Interestingly, Coria has won all three matches he's played against Tommy; granted, the most recent one was in Hamburg four years ago, but I'll settle for whatever edge I can find at this point.
I also doubt that either Ferrer or Davy will be the one to take Fed out, if anyone does. I do think it's good for Roger that the two have to play one another first, because a) at least one removes the other from his path and b) Davy/David has the makings of a REALLY tiring grinder of a quarterfinal.

OK, I jumped in the pool. But I filled out a women's bracket and it went to the public pool instead (the men's bracket is fine). I can't figure out how to copy the bracket over. Oh well. I picked Dementieva/Schiavone as the semi in the top half, so I'm not expecting much there.

Apparantly the pool I set up is just for the men's side. Who knew? I set up a WTA pool as well. www.tourneytopia.com/RacquetBracketFrenchOpenWTA/tennisheavenwta/Default.aspxThere may be a way for users to set up a bracket in our pool and copy it to the main pool, but their link to that code is broken at the moment. Otherwise, I think you have to start from scratch in the main and in ours. More as I learn how to drive this thing. ETA: Uh oh. Watch your ATP brackets for changes... Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is doubtful for the French Open after retiring with a knee injury from a Grand Prix Hassan II semifinal Friday.

Thanks, ilsabing! It looks like I have to re-enter my WTA picks, but I don't mind. I'm still picking Dementieva for the final.
The French players aren't looking so good. Tsonga, Monfils, Bartoli just got injured and are doubtful to play, and Gasquet and Mauresmo are mired in deep slumps. Cornet is really the best hope, but she drew Jankovic in the 4th round.

Well we haven't heard from Djokovic on the draw. Hey Novak, what do you think?
Delusional douchebag.

Aaagh, I am undone. My Tennis Channel has gone kaput and they can't get anyone out until Tuesday!!! I am embarrassed by how strident I was with the poor girl on the phone last night. But really, of all times to go belly up. My plan for Monday: my hubby golfs and I was to be glued to the set all day. Now I have to rely on ESPN. Hello Americans. Bah.

One to watch because let's face it, if PHM doesn't win, he should just throw the towel in and quit. Last chance to see Guga. Although if his performances of late are anything to go by, maybe fans would be better off not seeing it.

I'm glad that Guga will (probably) get to say goodbye on Chatrier. Better than Sampras on whatever court it was where he loss to Bastl (sp?).
I saw a little of the Guga-Norman final on French Open Classics, and I really don't think even healthy he could have stayed at the top of the game with the current crop of stars. It's amazing how much the game changed just in eight years.

I joined the Racquet Bracket private pool as exo13. Why not compound my failure to predict winners?
