I can't tell whether she looks good or not. Generally when she's having a bad day, her first serve speed is low and she hits those wild rally shots that land ten feet out. There's a little of that right now, but not enough to warrant complete despair.

I think maybe her hands are an issue right now, the feel isn't there, or she's just rushing needlessly because of the weather. She was serving well enough in the beginning. I'm hopeful that it will go 3, but it probably will end in 2 for Zheng, because the longer it goes the more fatigued Venus will be.

C'mon, Vee! Don't fade away in the 3rd. Please, please.

Ugh. Down a break . . .

Has anyone ever seen Venus hit a drop shot?

I don't think I ever have. Odd.

God. What a shitty half-assed unforced error to end such a tense tough match. It ends with a whimper.

Well, damn, Venus. But solid congrats to Zheng Jie.

I don't think I ever have. Odd. Yeah, it just occurred to me that I have never seen her do that either. She's never veered away from her power baseline game. Even Serena has added some slicing and dicing, but not Venus.

That's her being stubborn. She has slice and I'm sure she has a decent drop shot, but, again she didn't seem to want to add more to her game. My one disappointment is that she never added anything more and that she waited too damned long to start coming to the net on other surfaces that weren't grass. I enjoyed Venus' fight but those errors and her shitty serve took her out of this. Hope the long match didn't aggravate her back injury.

James Blake in a five setter at the USO. It seemed inevitable he'd have one of those before he retires. Now if he can win this set, he'd likely get one last chance on Arthur Ashe - assuming the schedule doesn't get messed up with any further rain.
Andy Murray right now has 29 winners to 3 unforced errors. I realize serve and volleyers like Llodra skew opponent's numbers but that's still insane, especially for someone who you'd expect to be nervous as defending champ.

I suppose the one thing consistent about Blake is his annual 5-set USO match.

That's exactly the kind of last match you'd expect for Blake. Tough loss but he needed to close with a crowd like that.
Meanwhile, Sloane Stephens looked like she actually belonged on Arthur Ashe. Granted, Radwanska's movement didn't look good but given how Sloane's nerves affected her first match, it was a nice surprise.
That said, sets in ladies matches in Ashe night session: 6-0 6-1 6-0 6-0 6-1 6-1. Rather safe to say that Wozniacki won't continue that trend tonight.

So, I just spotted our Colette. I was wondering if she'd be a ball person this year and she's at Venus and Serena's doubles match.

So, I just spotted our Colette. I was wondering if she'd be a ball person this year and she's at Venus and Serena's doubles match. I was wondering if she was there too, because I hadn't seen her. Then I saw someone who looked a lot like her in the stands of the Christina McHale match. I just saw her in her usual spot at the doubles match too. She always seems to be one of the net ball people instead of in the back court.
