If anyone is looking for a good match to watch, watch the stream for court 17. If the first two sets are anything to go by, this deciding set of the Llodra/Mahut vs. Paea/Stepanek should be a corker. Meanwhile, it is disgustingly humid out here.
hee, the kid behind me watches Llodra hit a smash from the baseline and says , "they must know what they're doing." So cute

I can tell it's really oppressive there just by looking at the players on TV, lt. Hope you're enjoying yourself anyway. Did you get to see any of Wawrinka/Baghdatis? It was really entertaining on TV. One good decision CBS made was hiring Chanda Ruben. I wish she did more comentating, although I don't have too many complaints about the ESPN or TC teams.

I was in Manhattan today. I feel for the players on days like this. It's one big "yuck" of a day, when you're happy for thunderstorms (apologies to any players in night session).

Honestly, it was so gross outside that the thought of going to a crowded court was beyond my comprehension. I stuck (happily) to doubles. Still pretty crowded but with empty seats next to me so I wasn't penned in. Got to see Kvitova watching her man, that pair still freaks me out--most especially because I had to see Stepanek's "eye of the tiger" face that he'd give Paes before a big point or game and that made me think just blechy thoughts. I watched Fleming/Marray beat Bopanna/Roger-Vasselin pretty easily and then Errani/Vinci. I don't always love watching women's doubles but I LOVE watching those two. Their game is so much fun to watch and it has absolutely everything in it. Then I decided a shower was way more important than watching any more tennis so I'm watching Haas/Youzhny from the comfort of my air-conditioned couch. Wish it was on TV, but thanks to you guys I have the clean stream from USOpen.org.

lt - If I was Kvitova, I'd think it'd be better to recover from that virus to watching... okay, there's no way to finish that sentence without being grossed out.
It doesn't really matter much who wins between Smyczek and Granollers (it's in the 5th set), given either would be absolutely embarrassed by Novak. At least Joao Sousa is playing all-out here and that must be commended. I can guess Sousa played this level against Dimitrov, which would pay dividends.

Serena really looked good against Sloan yesterday. I think she really wanted to redeem herself after her loss to Sloan in Melbourne, because her reaction after winning was more pronounced than usual. Li Na was absolutely brutal against Jankovic. Rodriguez has really helped her bring her game and her emotions into clear focus.

She was UNBELIEVABLE! Jankovic was playing really, really well too, but she couldn't make a dent.
I only caught dribs and drabs of the Serena/Sloan match yesterday, but I thought Sloan was actually playing pretty well too. I was interested to hear Carillo's point about Sloan needing to work on the finer points of footwork, just as she needs to work on maintaining her higher level of play in between slams. But I thought her play on the whole was even better than it was in Melbourne.

Yes, Sloane was very impressive. It won't be too long before she's holding a majory trophy.
Li Na is on fire!
I just left Brooklyn and am now in Manhattan. No rain in either place, though the skies are threatening. Let's hope the rain moves out of Queens soon.

These pop-up storms are so weird. Where I am in NJ we had nothing and then a house-shaking round of thunder. I'm directly west of Flushing Meadows but these storms don't seem to be following the normal pattern of west to east.
Did anyone see the profile of the ballkid who was severely injured while serving as a corpsman? I saw him yesterday! The only reason I noticed him was because of the rectangular sunglasses (which, judging by the profile, are transition glasses) and how seriously he was running around the court. I love those profiles.

I must admit, in a better year I would have stayed through that 4-1/2 hour rain delay but there is no way I would have this year. However, the chance to see Roger on Armstrong? Now that's some fun. (Although I never go on Labor Day so the thought is moot.) I'm guessing CBS will still go off the air at 6 pm but maybe CBS Sports Network will stay on? They've got Beach Volleyball next. . . ESPN2's coverage starts at 7 so I wonder if they'll go with Roger/Tommy or go straight into the Rafa/Kohlschreiber. Thank goodness for live streaming!
eta: I love Roger, I've always loved Roger. However I know that Roger gets a bit pissy when he's not on the main court--rain or not. He got broken his very first game and that doesn't surprise me. He needs to embrace that the fans who normally see him as a little blue dot waaaaay below them now get the opportunity to see him close up and step up. Heh, the funny thing is that his own team will be seeing him more close up than they are used to.
eta2: OH! ESPN2 is going to start airing at 6pm instead of 7pm so they can air the match. I'm sorry, but this is why I want CBS (and NBC) to get out of the tennis game. 6pm--they're done. Doesn't matter that there is still live tennis going on. They're not sticking with it. And ESPN is like, eh, who cares about SportsNation? We can put live sports on!

I just read that CBS and Time Warner Cable have resolved their contract dispute. Isn;t that the situation that cuased some of you New York folks to have problems getting certain channels?

Oooh, I'm Cablevision so that dispute wasn't affecting me but the thought going into August was that it would be resolved in time for the fall season and I guess that's what happened.
Remember: ESPN2 in five minutes. . .
eta: as always, John MacEnroe drives me crazy with his lack of understanding about how the Open works. Yes, there are empty seats courtside in Armstrong because those are reserved seats--not general admission. Every year he makes some comment that makes no sense about seating. If he needs me to sit him down and explain how each court works, I will.

The one bad thing about PVR is that I can't be on the forums when I'm hours behind on the live action...
The one good thing about rain delays is that I've caught up.
Edit: dear gods that 'no avatar' picture is creepy. Sort of like the Greendale Human Being.
