But with all the ambient noise of the court--unlike the muted Rafa/Philipp match on my TV. I love the sound of the ball striking the racquet and the court so I'm paying a lot more attention to the Gasquet/Raonic match since I can hear that stuff on the computer.
Now, what can I do to help Philipp out? Damn, I don't like Rafa's over-pumped reaction to things. Oh well, at least I'll be able to watch the rest of the Gasquet/Raonic match from the comfort of my bed once this match is over in a couple of seconds.
yeesh, 4 hours in this heat and humidity. I can't believe Milos or Richard can still be standing. Win or lose, that shower is going to feel like the best thing ever.
eta: well, I was wrong. ESPN is not going to air this tight 5th set. They're going to chat some more about Roger. Con: not in bed. Pro: no commentators. Big Con: my stream has been breaking down for the past 15 minutes. Hey, they just put a stat up that this is Roger's first straight-set loss at the Open since the Round of 16 in 2002 when he lost to Max! And now they're going to the the live match--but that annoying music from Ashe is still in Chris/PMac's mics.

This crowd seemed about 50/50 before but either the Canadians have gotten completely drowned out or Richard surviving the missiles made the crowd root for him but I'm liking it a lot.

lizm - yes that's exactly what he's doing. Robredo fell during his match, left a very big sweat stain requiring a few towels (it was likely his own sweat that led to the fall as well). Wow... understandable, I guess. I hope I'm never sweating that much ever Ugh, Raonic, kills me every time! Just when he looks solid, he flags. When he's about to lose, he raises my hopes by coming back. Looks like he might need some more fitness work. Yeah... I was kinda glad TSN cut away from Fed/Rob because it looked a bit sketchy and sigh... has Roger really lost it? In my dreams, when he starts SERIOUSLY using a bigger racquet, he'll be like "OMG THIS IS SO MUCH EASIER" and start winning again.

I think maybe this loss was a good thing for Roger. Just like Serena's loss at the '12 French was good for her. I hope it makes him really think long and hard about changing up things. Getting in better shape to help his back, maybe an outside consultant can point some things out, and hopefully he'll regain his confidence in time. I don't think he's down and out, at all. Struggling, yes, but he's still got it within himself to win and win big, he just needs re-adjust some things and stop being stubborn about trying new things. Here's a quote from Patrick Mouratoglou that he had on twitter, he was talking about Woz, but it fits Roger too. I thought it was interesting: And an interesting article on Patrick.

Darn. I was so looking forward to putting on the stream for Court 17 to watch Max's mixed QF but, nope. No more streams beyond Grandstand.

lizm - how was TSN coverage for that Raonic match last night? I would imagine, given the stats regarding Canadians in majors, that last hour had to be so heartbreaking.

No lizm, but a fellow Canadian here. I was watching the match on TSN and there was absolutely no commentary. There was full sound so you could hear all of the sounds of the match but absolutely no commentary. I sure makes for a pleasant viewing experience. They were talking about it on the news this morning but, you know, we are Canadian so we tend to be pretty low key about these things.

Oh, that's what everyone was talking about. I had assumed it was an online feed.

It was the online feed for us in the states (until ESPN2 started putting it on TV)--TSN appears to have picked it up without adding any commenting which is pretty funny. I heard some people talking and they said court 17 was added as a TV show court for the non-US TV market. Makes perfect sense since I usually end up there and I tend to follow the non-US players.

It was great Mooncreek. Earlier in the week when they showed Raonic on TSN we had to listen to some commentator who didn't seem to know very much about tennis. Kept referring to Raonic as a "shinning star" and making all sorts of statements about his game that were incorrect. The other commentator, who was Scottish, kept having to correct him. Also, he was calling Pospisil...Popsicle.

I found this article about this reporter's son being a ball person for the US Open interesting. I've always wondered how competitive it was to get a position as a ball person. Anyway Colette must be very, very good because she's always on the TV courts and going by the article veterans are usually the ones who get TV face time.

If I was at the Open I would not have been pleased today to pay much money to watch either the Djokovic or Williams match. Wow, talk about lopsided.

My heart goes out to Suarez Navarro. No, I didn't want her to win, but I hate that she's not having a better showing, poor thing.
