Whoa, that Jankovic dress is fugly. I like the print on Serena's dress, but I always think the dresses Nike makes for her are too high waisted.
Bummed that Ivanovic and Keys are out so early. They do the kind of big, clean hitting that I enjoy. I don't have access to TV coverage for these couple of days; did anyone see either of these matches?

I like the print on Serena's dress, but I always think the dresses Nike makes for her are too high waisted. Nike made a dress for her a couple years ago at the Miami tournament that was green, blue and white, and had a sort of double band around the waist that looked fantastic and fit her perfectly, so of course everything they have put her in after that looks like they took one of the waist bands out which fucked with both the length and the sillhouette. I don't understand. I suspect that Eugenie Bouchard may be Borg. Of the "resistance is futile" variety rather than the Bjorn variety.

I have yet to warm to her.

She's not very warm and fuzzy, that's for certain. I'm pulling for her because I'm Canadian and it's not like we have a great big history of Canadian tennis champs (except of course for Nestor)but I haven't developed a real warmth for her either.
Darn...I was so pulling for Venus in the tie breaker.

Venus is so frustrating. Served for it and couldn't do it. I wish she'd stick to David's strategy and come to the net and whatever else he tells her. She just doesn't listen. And doubles! Why play doubles now, instead of next year? Both of them are ridiculous for playing doubles and I never thought I'd say that. Watch Serena screw her back up once again and lose.

I'm so disappointed about Venus. There's no way she should have lost to Errani given both of their recent form and the record between the two of them. It had to be that late doubles match. I'm not happy.
I'm watching the Raonic/Estrella Burgos match right now, and I'm amused hearing Courier discussing Raonic's hair product. Evidently he asked Milos how long it takes to wash that out of his hair and Milos said "About two days."

I'm also watching Raonic/Estrella Burgos. I was cracking up about the hair product comment, but you've got to admit, it's working for him.
harry24 regarding Althea Gibson: My mother played tennis in college and was thrilled that a fellow black woman could play in and win grand slams. Then years later when I moved to NYC, I met a woman whose late Aunt helped Gibson run tennis clinics in NJ. Said Gibson was a truly class act who made little money despite her celebrity. So that's why I'm a fan.
Wow, Kvitova got run off the court.

I wish I could say the doubles is what did Venus in, but I don't think so. She just didn't execute like she should have. Maybe in the 1st set she was tired, but after that she seemed ok, but of course you never know. I really dislike Errani.
Lepchenko is legit drinking from a canteen. I have never seen that before, but kind of cool.
I have to say I really do like Novak and his joy at being a parent is nice to see.
If Serena screws up this draw I will scream. She's got an easy ride to the final and it's about time she had an easy time of it. I want her to win her 18th here. It'd be awesome if Roger could win his 18th here too, but that's too much to hope for.

Did they have their baby? I must have missed that.
Lepchenko always reminds me of Jennifer Capriati on court. I'm not sure why except that they both sort of walk like truck drivers.

Serena's dress is so short, like, why? She's too old for that. Same for Venus with her short skirt for doubles and her white shorts that barely cover her ass. I don't want to see that.
breez, they're going to have their baby in 2 months. I guess I should have said a soon to be parent.

Maybe in the 1st set she was tired, but after that she seemed ok, but of course you never know. I really dislike Errani. I agree that the third set was all about sub-par execution for Venus, I just feel like if she had started stronger in the first set it would have made a difference in the long run, or even kept it from going to a third set at all. BTW, it's surprising that they went with a Kyrgios/Robredo night match on the middle Saturday of the U.S. Open on a day when Djoker, Murray and Isner were also playing. Not that I'm complaining, but I'm wondering if the bigger players wanted to play day matches . . .

Doesn't CBS have the last word on the weekend matches? There seems to be a history of them pulling rank on the cable channels on Labor Day weekend if I can remember past US Opens.
I wonder if we're going to have another year with nice weather right up to the final weekend, and then both finals being washed out - it's happened so often in recent times. Is the men's final scheduled for Monday this year?

I really like Genie's game - if she manages to work out consistency, she'll be a terror. It's also fun to watch someone who can break as well as lose serve - as a contrast to Milos, who rarely does either.
But as far as personality, Milos seems much more earnest. Vasek has the puppy thing going (cute, but annoying). Genie's very telegenic and media-aware (read: sucks up to the audience), which I guess is what fires the off-putting media frenzy.
Watching the Kyrgios/Robredo match, I had to mute the giddy commentator. Yeesh, that was some serious fangirling. I was fine until the freaking GIGGLING.
Finally, it sucks that Nadal isn't here this year - especially now that I hear he/Nike was bringing back the sleeveless tops! /shallow
I'm rooting for Federer. If it does come down to a Raonic/Fed final - well, it probably won't be very exciting but I'll be happy for Fed. I'd like to see a Dimitrov/Fed match (not the final, since they're in the same half).

Bwah! I love you, breezy! I used to do an imitation of Capriati that cracked up tikiboy. Mostly it involved stomping around angrily with my lower jaw thrust out. I hadn't seen Kyrgios until last night. The talent is insane. Unfortunately the brain might be, too. Raonic is hilarious and I've decided to love his modified-Bob's-Big-Boy hair. I haven't warmed to Bouchard either, like most of you. She sure was pissy in her match yesterday; I sense a truly monumental ego -- not that most tennis players don't possess one, but still... Finally, to stay true to form: go, Feds! [/futile hopes] ETA: Wtf with Sharapova sucking against Wozniacki? Woz is looking very thin. I never cared for her, but the McIlroy thing was so awful. What a fucking douchebag. And on a nicer note, thanks for sharing that story about your mom, GrandSlamGuru. Gibson was so inspirational to so many. Awesome.

Caroline kept her poise against Maria and ran down every ball. Nice win.
I'm visiting in Brooklyn where very dark clouds are rolling in.
