Yeah, this really makes for a final where I'll be very happy no matter who is the winner!
Edit: OMG jump the gun much? I'm as bad as the commentators! Should be 'sets up a possible final', though I've nothing against Cilic.

Ugh, 1 upset is enough in the semis! Here me tennis gods, that's 1(one)! I also have nothing against Cilic usually, but now ...oh yeah I have a lot against him. Fed just got out of a 5 setter, down 2 and that may (?) have something to do with it.
All my fault: when I saw Kei upset Djok I was SO excited, thinking maybe this was it, the elusive 18. That'll teach me. In theory I find it pleasing to have a new Slam champion, but in this case theory can go fuck itself, lol. Not against my Fed, please, pretty please. Not that I'm actually holding out much of any hope.
Oh as to scheduling: I know it's been a long long time since "Super Saturday", but what are they thinking having no night play at all on Sat and Sun night??? Yeah, it's NYC, plenty else to do but I flat out don't believe they couldn't pack the house if they sold tickets those nights. Just strikes me as bizarre.

Wow. I was unable to tear myself away from the tv during the Nishikori/Djokovic semi, and since that put me way behind in going to the gym and running errands, I had to miss most of Cilic/Fed. I'll have to check out the highlights. I wasn't expecting that, and I definitely wasn't expecting it in straight sets.
Two first-timers! Crazy! The women had all of the upsets during the first week, and the men saved their surprises for the end of the tournament.

I was out with family until just about the very end, so what was up with that, anyway? Cilic playing out of his mind, Fed sluggish .... huh? I mean only 3 sets, seems like something must have been unusual.

I missed most of it too acre, so sorry Roger lost. I guess I will root for Kei on Monday since I do like him, but I have to be at work anyway...what a letdown, I was sure Roger was going to win today:(

Yeah I was fully resigned to Fed finishing with 17, I haven't even considered the possibility of 18 for a couple years. Then Wimbledon, then here I assumed Djok would beat him in the final and OMG no Djok, OMG 18? Tennis, designed to break your heart. Oh, I kid, as a decade plus fan of Fed I could not be anything but joyful almost all the time. Not heartbroken! It's not like 17 Slams is not living up to potential! Still 2 questions: what was the match like, and why in the hell has the US Open cut itself off from 2 huge revenue source on Fri(was there play?}, but definitely none Sat and Sun nights? Don't tell me the crowd got too rowdy and out of control even for them? I mean, I would hate it, but I'm "old", and anyway it's NYC! I'd expect nothing less.

Nice win for Serena! Not much drama in this final, but it's nice to see her get past whatever mental block/performance obstacle she's ad this year at the majors. now they can stop incessantly talking about whether she will catch Chrissy and Martina and start incessantly talking about whether she will catch Steffi.

Hee, fala -- it's funny cos it's true. Regardless of numbers, though, it's hard to imagine that we have ever had a player greater than Serena. YMMV of course.

I was rooting for Caro but oh well. I had to turn off CBS and watch the live feed on US Open.org because I just couldn't handle listening to Carillo saying "I don't want to keep pushing this but blah blah blah Rory McIroy" over and over again. I was so worried she was going to say it again during the ceremony--which she did obliquely. Gah, she's the worst. Now that CBS is finished with the Open will she have a job in tennis anymore?
Meanwhile, I hadn't realized until this tournament that the USTA is moving to Orlando in a couple of years. I talked to the ex-USTA people at work and it's quite the interesting decision. The US Open-only employees will move to the tennis center in Flushing and the office in White Plains (where the USTA was housed) is closing. Will this help with development? There are more players based in Florida but the Boca office hasn't helped at all so this one working is not a guarantee. Also, unlike every other sport with a governing body, tennis in the US is more individual-based--both from the parents and from the academies the kid ends up going to. However, the center in Orlando is supposed to be beautiful and it will be nice for the people who play in USTA leagues to know they are going to one place for the final tournaments instead of ending up anywhere in the US. One of my co-workers made it to the 3.5 finals a few years ago and she went to Arizona.
Back to the commentators again (but for a different match). I really wanted to watch the doubles finals earlier today but I just couldn't handle PMac and Gilbert saying such crap things about Lopez and Granollers (especially Marc). They were acting like they were lucky they've won so many tournaments and it was really awful to listen to.
I hope the men's final tomorrow is fun. It's interesting, if the opponents had been switched up (Novak vs. Cilic and Roger vs. Kei) I think Djoker and Fed would have won. Nole couldn't find his footing when it wasn't his return game winning the match and Roger never had time to think against the speedy serving of Marin.

Well that wasn't one of the more exciting matches but I still enjoyed seeing a final that didn't inlcude anyone named Federer, Djokovic, Nadal or Murray. I was rooting for Federer from the beginning of the open and I certainly never pegged Cilic as a contender but I think the result is probably a good thing for men's tennis.

It's good to see a little bit of a shake-up, but after I saw the scoreline, I didn't feel like watching my DVR'd copy all the way through. Good for Marin though. He has been promising for a while.

Same here. I recorded the match and got home in time to see the last three games of the third set. After watching those games I deleted the recording without watching. The women's final wasn't all that thrilling either. I enjoyed the mixed doubles final though!
