That was ridiculous. Does anyone know who that was? The man was just over the moon about Kyrgios in a way that was just plain weird.

I have always gotten the sense that Gibson was never able to capitalize much financially on her uncommon talent and athletic success. I have always been in awe of her, especially given the times back then.
Woz has improved her game quite effectively. I like that I'm seeing winners and more assertive play from her. It makes her games much more interesting. That was an entertaining match, and Woz applied pressure at just the right time.

If this is the same weather system that we just had in the Philly area, it will be a torrential downpour for about an hours, and then it will get sunny again.

Grandslamguru, thanks so much for sharing the info about your mother and how much she admired AG as well as about the woman whose aunt knew and admired her. It's so cool to hear real stories about public figures, especially those who had true historic importance. Was your mother playing college tennis at the same time AG was winning slams or was it later?
Now, on to really important topics:
1) I was a big fan of Rafa's sleeveless/pirate pants look in his long-haired, doe-eyed youth, but I think, while the guns surely will be just as bodacious, the whole effect with the thinning hair is not going to be successful, and I wish he wouldn't try. I miss finding Rafa sexy.
2) Boy, all my women's favorites are gone in (or before)the first week: Li, Halep, Ivanovic, Kvitova, Keys, Stephens, Stosur, Radwanska and Venus. Sigh. At least Sharapova is out. You wouldn't think it was possible, but her screaming is actually getting worse!
3) Anyone here have any insight on why Stephens is struggling so much? And anyone know if she and Sock are still together? I gather he's moved to train in Florida. I was rooting for them because I think they make an adorable couple (at least physically).
4) I don't think I like the short, loose shirt Nike has Roger sporting this summer. It makes him look a touch sloppy. Unthinkable.
5) Psyched to see Young and Townsend doing well in the mixed. I hope they make it to TV at some point, as I bet the shot-making is very entertaining.

I love me some Roger, but why in the fuck is he wearing old man leisure-wear colors? Ugh. It's totally distracting.

The broadcast I saw (NYC area) featured Luke Jensen (ugh) and Al Trautwig (UGH TO THE MAX). They were appalling.
ETA: Roger's play in this Granollers match is the best I've seen from him in years. He's hitting gorgeous, audacious, dashing shots and it's like I'm in a time machine back to 2007.

I've seen two of their matches on tv so far. Whe Milos started to climb the ranks here in Canada we started to see more tennis on television although mostly men's. Now thanks to the popularity of Bouchard, we have oodles of coverage. TSN in Canada is showing tennis on 4 or 5 channels and they are all different feeds. I've seen mixed doubles, men's doubles, ladie's doubles and all sorts of singles matches that I never would have seen before. The only problem is that I never know what channel a match I want to see is going to be on so I never know what channels to record. Towsend and Young are really fun to watch.
Luke Jensen and Al Trautwig should be banned from all tennis facilities or at least muzzled if allowed to enter.

Me too, but here's the link that makes it easier: www.tsn.ca/tennis/feature/?id=124238 (TSN US Open Viewer Guide) They seem to keep it up to date as developments happen. I'm a bit disappointed that the Jack/Vasek match is only showing on tsn.ca

I used to have the same problem with Isner and Roddick wearing tents as shirts. Tailoring, please. I still find Rafa sexy! I was hoping that the board shorts would not come back - was hoping for a Aussie Rules football outfit (fitted tank and really short shorts)! But yes, something could be done with the hair. Young/Townsend were televised on one of TSN's aforementioned channels - they did really well and seemed to be having a lot of fun. Young was struggling a bit. And yay for Thiem! Talk about deep blue eyes... only saw them today because it was a night match and he wasn't wearing his cap. I've said unkind things about Jankovic's looks before (I think) but her hair looks prettier than I've ever seen it - 3 small french braids pulled back into a smooth ponytail. That must take almost as much time as Raonic's 'do. The dress would be really pretty without the print.

Roger was just amazing tonight after the rain break (I wonder what he and Stefan had to say during that break time). I just cannot believe how well he is playing at age 33. I suppose if he had known his match would turn into a night time affair, he'd have gone for the black outfit!
Have to say I was rooting for Woz earlier, even though I don't love her game. I've come to the conclusion that there are degrees of grunting/shouting/shrieking and Sharapova's is hands down the worst. She has to know that it's throwing her opponent off.
Also saw a little of Monfils/Gasquet, will catch up on it tomorrow. Gael was so charming in his interview afterwards.

Agree with everything you said roseha.
I didn't like Woz's game either, but it's gotten a lot more watchable now that it's not pure defense. And I agree that Sharapova's screams are the worst - though I do feel like Azarenka competes sometimes.

I think I have said this before, but Monfils has such a smooth, mellow, shy sounding voice when he talks it seems contrary to his antics when he plays. The match was good. I was worried, since he was playing Gasquet, that the match might be another abomination of boredom and pushing like that match he played against Simon a couple years ago. Roger did look really good after that first set. It's great to see him looking so good.

I didn't see Bouchard's loss coming. No doubt Sharapova will have some comment to make about the medical timeout.
Tsonga...why do I continue to let you break my heart? So beautiful, and such the flake.
Go Stan!

I missed this. Who took the medical timeout?
And what's wrong with Sharapova this summer post-French?
I totally echo these sentiments. COME ON, STAN!!!
ETA: Where the heck is LT?
