So relieved for Madison. Boy, she looked nervous at different times in that match. I think she's very charming, and I love that huge game.

Cool, thanks so much roseha, at least I can get a mini-fix, and watch the finals belatedly if they seem worth it.
And hello to all! I've not gone anywhere, it's just hard to have much to contribute when I can only follow along with the news and scores, nothing live. But I'm still interested, at least to some extent.

I worked at home this morning, thus I got to see Nadal get his ass handed to him. That Dustin Brown was something else! I really enjoyed his game, not to mention his sense of composure. I also felt bad for him that the coverage afterward was more along the lines of, "Woe is me! Is Nadal really done?" rather than, "Man, Brown played a great match!" Fucking media.

Yea, but not having watched I am big-time bummed for Nadal. I mean what the hell? 4 ys in a row at Wimby, not even the final at the French, a bunch of other lousy results ... I find it all sad and confusing. I mean he is a great, truly great player and I don't want to see him go out with a whimper instead of a bang. He has a legacy to live up to, and he is the Real Deal (I don't need to convince anyone here!) As a rabid Fed partisan, no I didn't want him to equal/best Fed's GS total, but I was becoming resigned. And any, anyhow, I never wanted the record preserved because Nadal was like injured, or sick, or somehow just not "right".

My BF and I were actually talking about Nadal's problems, acre. I think it's a combination of things -- he looks to have maybe lost a step, which really hurts a player who relies on speed. He also seems burned out physically. His game is so hardcore physical, it's probably wrecked his joints, particularly his knees. Those 2 things can contribute to a lack of confidence, and right there you've got a bad spiral going on. (And today he played a pretty funky unknown with a big serve and a great grass-court game, and who was tall enough not to be bothered by high bounces.) Overall, I think it seems pretty unlikely that he'll equal Fed's GS total. Obviously I hope he doesn't, but never say never!

Hey, everyone! I got a bit burned out on tennis last year. I'm rooting for Serena even though Venus is my favorite, but I don't think Venus would be able to sustain the level needed to win the whole thing. I wish Venus had played a warm up event and raised her ranking enough for this match not to have happened so soon. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

I overslept today (Happy 4th to us Americans!) and tuned in just in time to see Petra lose, I really feel bad for her though I think I used to be the only one here who liked Jankovic at all. Since Wimbledon is Petra's claim to fame I wish she had a least made a better run. I do hope it will open the door for Madison Keys though. Nice "talking" to all of you again, you're welcome acre re the ABC shows, I know how confusing it is when the sport gets bumped around every possible network. I should mention that Wimbledon radio is online here also acre, you should be able to get it online if you are interested: www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/interactive/radio.html#Will have to tune back in to see Venus and Serena. I really thought Serena was on her way to losing to Watson last time but she pulled it out again somehow. I thought Watch ESPN had replays but so far can only find highlights on it, anyone had better luck?

I'm so disappointed in Petra. She looked so tired. Perhaps she hadn't fully recovered from that viral thing that took her out of the warm-up tournament.
I don't know whether to root for Madison to make the final or not. (And it's a big responsibility, since what I root for ALWAYS COMES TRUE!) I just don't know if it would be a good thing for her or too much.
Just saw a shot of Coco Vandeweghe in the stands watching Simon-Monf on Centre Court, and she looks so cute in her civvies, much better than when she's playing. I guess most people look a lot better when they're not playing. :-)
I hope they show some Madison-Kyrgios mixed matches. That could really be fun.

Sad for Madison losing to Radwanska today. I was surprised so many of the TV talkers thought she was favored going into the match. Madison hadn't really been playing that well but had been struggling through her matches, and Radwanska is just the type of player who could make things tough for an erratic player like Madison if she's not at her best. Does anyone know if Martina N. is still working with Aggie?
OTOH I'm so happy for Muguruza. I like her almost as much as I like Madison. I find her humorous, low-key and charming. And I also like her big game. She also has a slightly stately, elegant, old-fashioned beauty. I'll bet she'll be a big star in Spain. I don't know who would be likely to do better in a final against (most likely) Serena, the youngster with the big game or the veteran with the soft game.
I really wish Coco had been able to take out Maria. I read that Coco complained about Maria moving around while she was getting ready to serve. Did anyone see anything about that?

I haven't seen much in the last few days, harry, so I can't answer your questions, but hopefully someone else will. I too like Madison, but also Radwanska, and Murguruza looked impressive.
Men's quarterfinals peeve: they keep noting that the "Big 4" have won 41 of the last 48 GS titles. Um, yeah, and Murray has accounted for fucking TWO of those. TWO. Out of 41. If you're going to include him, Stan the Man should be included too; he not only also has 2 titles, his wins are much more recent. No offense to Andy; I've just never been convinced that there was a Big 4 as opposed to Big 3 (thanks, media!). [/bitchy morning rant. Sorry, guys!]

Yeah, it's really dumb all the Big 4 business. I like Stan, Andy has a great game, but you can't put them in the same league as the top 3. I mean Fed is 17, Nadal 14 and Djok is at 8 and not looking to be slowing down any. I guess they fixate on 4 because that's the semi-finals, but just look at today: 1,2,3 and 21 into the semis! Extremely rare for all the seeds to hold up to the end. And I'm still a bit bemused and looking for how Nadal did ... oh wait.
And it makes me sad that DelPo couldn't recover from his injuries, I liked him so much, and he could've been a "Big 4".
Sorry to see Stan lose, but Gasquet has a lovely game himself, when he's on. He's just not consistent. ETA: While it's nice/exciting for Gasquet to get to the semis, he hasn't a hope against Novak, and Stan obviously would. Would be a better match, but that's the way it goes.
And Muguruza! I don't even know who she is, and into the Wimby final, wow.
Also, also Becker, what a jerk. I enjoyed him when he was playing but that is long gone. And he has always cheated, it's no secret. And I'll go ahead and be petty and say he has not aged well. At all.

Oooh, come sit by me, acre. I couldn't agree more.
The comments during Williams/Sharapova were devastating. Chris Evert said something about Serena making Maria look like a "club player -- no offense." OMFG, one could not be more offensive. But also? True. That Spanish chick is not gonna know what hit her.
Djokovic still makes me want to hurl.

Ha tiki at first I was thinking how was that offensive to club players? Oh, it's the other way of course. Yeah, a pro, even a low-ranked one (unlike Maria) couldn't even get a match at most clubs. In fact, isn't that why Mats Wilander began playing again - the senior tour mostly but I think he also played some regular events? He just wanted to keep playing tennis but so outclassed everyone he had to go back to the pro events. Now, I'm not sure I have that all right, but it definitely stuck in my memory as a thing.

I know a couple of people have cut the cable ties here, but I just got sling tv, which gives you sports channels, tnt, amc, etc. It's actually pretty cool. I got it for espn3 and being able to use it to watch replays for tennis, which you can do. It's $20 a month with a bunch of different channels and you can add hbo or their other movie options. It's at sling.com I just wanted a stream that was hd for a change.
I'm looking forward to the men today. Novak and Andy are my picks for the final. And Serena hopefully for the ladies.

Does anyone know if Martina N. is still working with Aggie? Martina N. and Aga parted ways in April. It would have been interesting to see how their partnership played out at Wimby given their respective success there, but they've been apart for a while already. I think that, other than Vika, Muguruza presents the most interesting finals match-up of any of the women who made it to the quarters. Given With her win over Serena, the way she has been playing, and the fact that they've never played each other on grass before, there's at least some uncertainty there. It could be an interesting final.
