I think the women's final has the potential to be interesting too. Muguruza doesn't sound as if she's just happy to be there. Hopefully she's psyched up to really fight for it.
Aren't there also some echoes to the final Martina lost to Conchita M.? A relatively unknown Spanish player makes the final against the greatest star of the day looking for a historic win?
As always, feeling nervous for Fed playing. I just don't feel like he can make it through Murray, much less Murray AND Djokovic.

Wow, Roger is looking good, but I'm still nervous.
I didn't remember that Muguruza already had a big win over Serena. I'll guess a GS final will go differently, though.
Sometimes I read tennis news on a non-tennis-focused site like Yahoo and the vitriol against Serena is just disgusting. People should feel lucky they get to watch (IMO) the greatest female player of all time. Then again, at my age, I should have figured out that there's no shortage of assholes. So: get another GS title, Serena! And go, Roger!

I saw some of the second set, harry. I think Murray feels immense pressure at Wimbledon, but Roger was playing lights-out tennis. In one of the games, it took Murray something like 15 minutes to hold his serve. Old Roger still has some magic...

Yeah even though it was in straight sets the play by play made it clear it was just an awesome display. Not at all like Andy played badly, seems to have played very well actually, but Fed's serve was on fire Fed was on fire, winners to errors out of all proportion.
Wistfully: but I'm not counting on the same in the final, I don't even dare hope. And Djok is in fact a better player than Andy so ....

Yes Roger played beautifully. I couldn't believe that shot near the end, I think he went with his backhand behind his back to behind Andy's back for a winner - that was amazing. I *had* to do laundry today (really - our dryers in the building are not funtional & I had to go out to the laundromat) so thought I would just check in when I came back but he was way ahead and then when I peeked again he had just won - just watched the whole thing on Tivo though...
Don't know how to feel about Sunday, 3 years is a long time but the way he is playing it's possible.

I don't know about Sunday either. I'm not particularly optimistic, but would love to be proven wrong. Either way, I'm not setting my alarm clock. I am one lazy bitch.
Also, this may sound kind of pathetic, but I might watch more tennis if this board were more active. You all make it so much fun, whether my favorites win or lose. I'll never forget years back when Fed lost to Djokovic at the Australian and fala helped me survive my disappointment and rage. Hell, I could probably give a shout-out to each and every one of you; that's just the one that came to mind. Have a great weekend, everyone!

You have a great weekend too tiki! and everyone (Harry, acre, fala, skye et al). I guess I might watch more if I had Tennis Channel, but I only went back to having ESPN a little while ago.
Don't worry I oversleep a lot myself! I'm embarrassed to admit how much Wimbledon I missed this year due to that (I never did find the replays on Watch ESPN either). I have to admit though that part of it is that I just don't like the way I get nervous if someone I like (like Roger) is playing. On reflection, I do believe he also has a chance since he hasn't had a tough draining five set match going into the final (for example). However, though I think he has a chance to win, I am happy either way that he continues to play so well and enjoys it. I'll be surprised if Serena loses, but Muguruza does remind me of Conchita Martinez beating Martina for some reason.

Also, this may sound kind of pathetic, but I might watch more tennis if this board were more active. Heh preach! Except I don't like knowing the results when watching, so it's also the DVR's fault. I can't come here until I've watched the match unless I'm watching live. I'm hopeful for Roger's chances today but... Novak's been so unstoppable. |
