I think Venus pretty much threw that quarter final. I also think i've pretty much lost the respect i had for her. Do you really think that? If Venus were really trying to throw the match, why would she earn herself all those set points and risk Serena hitting unforced errors and earning the sets anyway? I think Venus really just put to much pressure on herself in those situations, and Serena smartly held back and let her sis implode. Sorry if I'm getting preachy in the haterade thread, I just thought the WS match-fixing debates died out years ago. Ooops, I guess I should take a swig of haterade myself...I am hating on Jankovic for constantly gazing at herself on the big screen, checking her makeup, admiring her shots etc. I know a lot of folks consider her antics charming but she seems extremely fake and shallow to me, and not remotely serious about focusing on her game.

I've been hating on the women's tour lately, thinking that the phrase "number one" really needs those quotation marks, but I can't complain about Serena taking the spot -- I prefer Venus' game, or even Safina's, but Serena is definitely a real number one.
Can't stand Muggovic. And I feel guilty about it sometimes, because she seems seriously nice, but I can't stand Ivanovic either. Anyone think her recent problems are strictly mental? Girl just does not have the mentality of a top player.

I rolled my eyes out of my head when the first thing she did after the match was refresh her lip gloss.

Ya know? I don't think it was "match fixing,"-- not at all. I think it was (is) more a psychological dynamic between the sisters. I don't think it's a conscious thing. But remember, Serena was so mad about her Wimbledon loss? To me, it just seemed that Venus could have won that match the other night, but something in her own psyche prevented her from doing it. I LOVE the Williams' sisters--still do. But quarter-final match is the first time I have EVER thought it was a possibility Venus let Serena win. It was just a very weird "vibe" I got. But of course, I can see how other people wouldn't agree.

I rolled my eyes out of my head when the first thing she did after the match was refresh her lip gloss. LOL. I must say though that I hate when my lips are chapped and put some lip stuff on after my half marathon. I still think that JJ is annoying though! Does she wear glitter in her HAIR? Maybe she thinks she's a Chinese gymnast.

I'm the same way about my lips after working out (though even half marathons are out of my league!) And my shade is deeper, I left JJ's shade of pink along with my fishnets and sky high bangs. And the glitter was driving me crazy as well. It seemed as if I was spotting more of it as the match went on.

OK, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that it was in response to the exertion. It's just in addition to how distracted I always am by the amount of make-up that she wears - and oh, yes, to the glitter comments. I did, however, really like the dress.

I'm not feeling the Super Sparkly Hairspray either. Whoever said Chinese gymnast was so right! My gymnast niece is ALL about the gold hair glitter. It goes best with her blond hair. I've actually seen some of those little girls with blue or pink hair glitter spray.
I want Djokovic and Jankovic to STOP PLAYING TO THE CROWD AND CAMERAS. I think they could both be better tennis players if they just played tennis.
I have some old matches on DVR and watched a bit of the Nadal/Djokovic 2007 RG semi. ND just constantly makes faces intended to make an impression. It's so studied. Rafa and Roger and even Mardy ShortSocks aren't always looking up at the crowd acting all "Look at my amazed face", "Watch me grimace so you know I'm hurting" and "Be charmed by my casual shrug and cheeky grin." GAH. It just rings false for me.
When Rafa and Roger play, you can tell they are totally focused on the tennis and not how they look to the crowd or camera. I like that in my athlete.
Jelena. Grrrrr. She is what makes men laugh at women's sports. "Oh look, she can't hit the ball until she puts on her lip gloss." Yuck. YUCK. Serena and Venus may go to great effort to design special outfits, but on the court, they are all tennis. No male would look at Serena and mock her athletic ability based on her fixing her hair and wearing sparkly spray.
I don't like cutesy during matches. I want my tennis players to express themselves in a natural way, from Roger accidentally shouting "Shit" to Rafa jumping 8 feet in the air. A genuine expression. That's what I like on the court. Off the court is different.
And I know it's not tennis, but a big heaping helping of schadenfreude haterade on the Patriots. HAhHA.

You read my mind, apocalipstick! And word to the rest of your post as well. Every moment on-court that's spent on something other than tennis can only hurt the player. I think there's a few Serbian (and other) parents out there who spent just a wee bit too much time emphasizing how beautiful/handsome, how quirky, how charming and charismatic, their progeny are. If all this keeps Djokovic languishing in third, or lower, I guess I shouldn't complain. Regardless, he still needs to grow the fuck up.

Awww, I cannot wish injuries on anyone but how strange was it that all the sports media the day before was going on and on how this was the first time in forever that Brady wasn't on the IR. Meanwhile, that Cassel fellow is quite a bit more good looking than Brady, huh?

The only team I hate more than the Pats is the BENGALS. My hatred of them is long and detailed. No one could ever call them good.

I know this is the hatred thread but I think it's in unbelievably bad taste (nevermind karma) to rejoice when a professional athlete is injured just because you don't like the team he plays for. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Meanwhile, that Cassel fellow is quite a bit more good looking than Brady, huh? I don't think that irony is lost on anyone. And almost no one is more good looking to me than Tom Brady. But I'm very biased there. ;D I'm a Patriots fan. Not a 'Tom Brady and the Patriots' fan. I'm thinking that might be one the positives in this situation. We can get rid of some of those bandwagonners that I hate so much. They just make us true Pats fans look bad. All these people saying 'there goes our season' and that they're not watching the rest of the games - good! Get out of here! Don't let the door hit on you the ass! I can't wait to watch how my team responds to this major blow. They're just as prepared to lose a MVP Hall of Fame quarterback as any other team in the NFL - which is to say, not at all. It'll be interesting, to say the least.

Oh librarian. There is a difference between rejoicing in the misery being experienced by the Patriots and their fans and wishing someone an injury. I cheered when Belichick was fined half a million too. It felt great.
And I am SO rejoicing in watching my best friend's husband twitch and grow pale every time I ask about his ACL. I'm loving every single second of it.
Now, I think it would be bad form if I'd gone all Tanya Harding on him myself.
