Oh librarian. There is a difference between rejoicing in the misery being experienced by the Patriots and their fans and wishing someone an injury. I cheered when Belichick was fined half a million too. It felt great. And I am SO rejoicing in watching my best friend's husband twitch and grow pale every time I ask about his ACL. I'm loving every single second of it. Now, I think it would be bad form if I'd gone all Tanya Harding on him myself. Sorry, but I don't really understand your reasoning because ultimately your pleasure is stemming from the fact that an athlete at the top of his form was hurt and that's simply not funny or a reason to be "rejoicing." Would you be laughing if Rafa was injured and out for an extended amount of time?

I'm not going to debate this with you in the Haterade thread. If you want to PM me and explain to me in detail how you can not see the differences, I'll respond explaining them in equal detail.
As you said, this is the Haterade thread. Let's let it flow.
ETA: As I said, this is not appropriate for the Haterade thread. And I LIKE Rafa, so that doesn't make sense. But if someone who hated Rafa felt that way if he were injured, I'm fine with that. I respect other people's opinions no matter how much I disagree.

So back to hating tennis players... I don't really like Fat Dave because he doesn't work hard, and that's not something I like. When my husband and I were watching the Olympics, there was one swimmer with a little tummy (compared to the other guys). Mr. Boring Member was like "I love that guy! He looks like me!". So perhaps people like Fat Dave because they feel like it could be them out there. Heh. Interestingly enough, Marat has also squandered some of his talent, but I love him. Perhaps because he is amusing. And pretty doesn't hurt.

My haterade is really reserved for the fans. Those who feel the need to put down a player to boost their favorite. First they're saying that Roger's washed up, and now they're saying Rafa sucks for not having reached a hardcourt slam final yet. And to use insults, name-calling, etc. Roddick and Djoko can behave like asses all they want, Janky can spray the entire court with fairy dust and mascara, and del Potro and Murray can insult each other's mothers until Christmas -- nothing compares to the hate I feel for jerks on messageboards who spew bile and venom all over the players and each other. I mean, how can these people even enjoy tennis when they seem so full of hate?
I really should just stick to this forum.

Mell that's why I don't go to other tennis boards anymore, much as I love the game. Though I did check TWOP tonight, you wouldn't believe how many people in the US missed the match due to various CBS affiliate screwups.

My husband moderates an NFL-centric board and the interest in tennis is minimal but there is some. CBS & co really botched it. It made me grateful that I didn't have to go on a hunt for the match, find it and have no sound. Or worse of all have it delayed for Oprah or Ellen, only to join it in progress for the last set

I think the forum is populated by 14 year old boys.

My Haterade goes out to the Women's game. Whilst I love that the level of play is far more competitive and has depth, it seriously lacks variety. Every players game is virtually THE SAME. It's sad.
I miss you Martina.

Hingis. Her game made me fall in love with the sport. Such a technician and smart smart player.
And I'd love to see more like Navrat as well. Her serve and volley game was superb back in the day (and it was during the time when tennis was making that transition from net to baseline.) I don't think we'll see an exclusive serve volleyer any time soon but a player who is wickedly good at the net is needed. Mauresmo, Hingis and Justine were great in that part of the court, but they are now all but gone.

And also Men's Tennis Forums (which I became a member of only so I could see the attachments posted in the picture threads), as well as rec.sport.tennis and practically every single tennis forum I've ever been to. I remember CNN's short-lived tennis forums in 1997 or so as well. Every single one of those are/were populated mostly by asshats.

I hate the ITF not allowing Hingis to come to the parade of champions due to her alleged cocaine use. Didn't JMac admit years ago that he used coke while still a player? Talk about a double standard.

Hmm I did not know they had forbidden her from that. I guess I don't know how I feel about that decision because isn't she currently under suspension? I can kind of see where they would maybe have grounds to not allow her but I probably wouldn't have made that call. JMac never got caught which is a big reason for that double standard.

Martina the party girl.
Shame she had to end her amazing career in that way.
I hate the double standards between men and women players. I know the Hingis/JMc one isn't a great example but still the double standard exists and it deserves major Haterade. HAHA love that title.

I don't hate Tracy Austin THAT much (mostly I find her supremely irritating), but I don't know where else to ask this sort of mean question:
Has Tracy had a ton of plastic surgery? I recently watched a bunch of clips of her in her tour days and was shocked by the difference in appearance. Now I know she was basically a kid back then and she's a middle-aged woman now and your face changes, but I couldn't believe I was looking at the same person. Her features look totally different. The shock of blond hair she's sporting now is certainly a change, but even her eyes and nose looked totally different.
