Here's the link for the HBO stuff tonight: www.justin.tv/chadgate. A good stream. Venus has won the first match against JJ and is into the final at 6/4. Next up is Serena vs Ana.

I love the idea of four slams. I'd just make the calandar year smaller. The players get so little time off. I'd push the Ozzie Open back a month, make more room between the French and Wimby and have more lead in grass court tournaments, and have less of an indoor season.
There is just too much fluff and fodder on the yearly calandar. But because everyone is under a different body, the tour is screwed up. I think the men and women's tour IMO should go under the one ITF. Make as many tournaments coinside with men and women. They make the most money and the players seem to enjoy it. There are other things as well but yeah the calandar really needs to be revised.

So Down the Line is reporting that Federer is working with Cahill. www.downthelinetennis.com/ I'm personally glad to hear that. I hope it's far more than temporary. Assuming Federer actually listens and takes heart what Cahill has to say about things.

YeeHaw! I have been wishing for that for over a year. Maybe Federer comes here (ha!) and saw that we were all saying that pair would be a good idea?
eta: Davis Cup: Stadium damage!?! I keep checking live scores to see when to watch the Spain/Serbia matches and went through the "high wind delay" but now they're saying "stadium damage." What is going on over there?

Apparently upwards of 55 mph winds on Thursday did some damage to the upper levels of the temporary stadium they erected. They're hoping they can fix the damage in time to begin play tomorrow, and they're hoping they'll be able to hold the tie Saturday through Monday.
I just read about the Killer/Fed collaboration, and I think it's great. As people (lt) here have been saying for some time, it seems like that has the makings of a great partnership. It's too bad we won't have him as a commentator for a while though.

I have decided to do my part and help out the economy by going to the Sony Ericsson Open. Anyone else thinking of going? I'll be there Sunday night (3/29) through Wed. day.

Here's the women's draw for Indian Wells. I know they never play here, but given the way they've been winning this year, it's weird to not see Venus and Serena in the draw this year. Other than them, Dementieva is the only one on the tour who has shown any potential for dominance this year. I'm interested to see how Azarenka does. I think she and Safina will make it to the quarters in their section, but the way Azarenka was playing at the Aussie, I can't decide who will win between them if they get there. Momo has a decent draw, and if she gathers enough confidence, she could give Zvonereva trouble, but my money's still on Vera in that section. Jankovic has a decent draw, although if Cibulkova has a good tournament, she could grind JJ down in the 4th round given the way JJ has looked so far this year. I still give JJ the edge. Sharapova's not in the singles draw, but apparently she's planning on playing doubles with Elena Vesnina. It looks like Na Li is also not in the draw, which is disappointing.

It looks like Na Li is also not in the draw, which is disappointing. Li's in there. Her draw actually looks pretty good too. Tanasugarn in the 1st round, Schnyder in the 2nd, possibly Mauresmo in the 3rd. It's too bad she's had so many injuries. Had the potential to be a top-10 player, still think she can.

Wow. That is . . . startling. There's nothing in that picture that doesn't make me laugh, and in fact, when I clicked on it, I made a noise that I'm sure made my coworkers think that I might have lost my mind. Luckily, nobody came in to see what was up. I don't know how I missed her, because honestly I was scouring the draw looking for her name. I'm glad to see that she's playing, since she's been doing pretty well since she's been back. BTW, here's the men's draw! ETA: It looks like the Killer/Fed thing isn't going to happen. Killer realized that he wasn't ready to travel as much as Fed wanted him to. It seems like Fed's trying to work through a bit of a catch 22. He understandably only wants to consider the top of the top coaches, but the people who are the top of the top don't want to travel full time. It's too bad, because I really do think that they seemed like they would gel well together.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed Fed/Killer couldn't happen. I think it would have been good for Federer; I'm surprised Cahill didn't realize the travel it would involve. Roger definitely needs someone to help him out here.

I don't have any reason not to believe the official Fed/Cahill explannation but it does seem odd to me that the travel sched wasn't utterly explicit by the time he got to Dubai.
It's too bad but as someone pointed out (too lazy to remember who, maybe Bodo? proving even a broken clock is right 2x a day) said that Fed needs an upper tier coach but that they don't generally want to travel.
