I think that was just the polite way of saying they weren't going to get along for any meaningful amount of time. I, and the rest of the tennis world, was probably hoping the "test" was more than a test and it turned out it really was just a test to see if it could work.
The top of the men's doubles draw for Indian Wells is insane. Federer and Allegro against the Bryan Brothers in the first round? (You know who I'm rooting for); Rafa and the other Lopez? First Lopez and Fer and, most important, Max and Andy Ram. They've been playing a bit together this year so I'm really happy they are in a bigger tournament together. I'm crossing my fingers for them. In the bottom half we have DC rivals playing together (good for Llodra and Stepanek) and hopefully Simon and Chardy can take out Roddick and Fish (because Roddick and Fish on one court. . .blech!). Meanwhile, Gonzo and Tommy playing together? That's fun! I love doubles.

Fuck. Back to the booze then. And perhaps a break from the '09 season.

The whole travel thing seemed an odd reason so your explanation makes sense. And I'm happy to hear Fed and Mirka are having a baby! I hope it doesn't affect his game and don't really think it will much. They seem like such a nice couple though.

I'm so happy for Roger and Mirka. Wow, lots of Fed news these past couple of days.

Awww congrats to Roger, Mirka and baby!
I'm sorry too that the Cahill thing didn't work out. But maybe there's someone else out there who can give Roger a fresh pair of eyes.

Wow! I feel bipolar in my Roger fandom - as evident in my recent posts.
But this news is tremendous, and I am so thrilled. I wondered if life timelines and pressures were at the heart of Roger's emotional responses.... But I think this is a wonderful move. He'll be fine. Compartmentalizing might not be fun, but he'll be fine.
It's kind of fangirly of me, but I like to imagine the negotiations between them over the years ("Honey, it's all about you now, but the minute you're #2 I want to start trying...")
Cool. And I was feeling bad today for not appreciating Cahill's life-work balance issues as my world seems to have lost its axis altogether between those two forces....
Did anyone go back to the Mirka shots from Oz? I'm pathetic enough....

I doubt Mirka would have been showing almost two months ago... But a BIG CONGRATS is instore for them. I hope having a baby in his life lifts the mans game.

I can't wait to see baby Federer.
On a less positive note, Moya is out of Indian Wells with what sounds like a career ending injury. Problems with the bone and ligaments in his hip. I don't think at his age he'll be back. Moya has been one of my favorite players for years so I'm sad he won't be around.

Aww that sucks. It seems injuries have plagued the mans career!

I'm very excited to see that Alexandria Wozniak of Canada is actually seeded at Indian Wells. It's not often or actually ever that we Canadians have someone moving up the ranks like that (Daniel Nestor aside).

Big upsets on the women's side today.
Jankovic (lost to Pavlyuchenkova, who?), Dementieva (lost to Cetkovska, who again?) both out.
Cibulkova, Cornet, Zheng also lost today.
Plus, Kuznetsova was upset yesterday. And after all the drama of the past couple of weeks, Shahar Peer beats Bartoli yesterday as well.
Crazy women's tournament so far.

I was really undecided on my women's bracket and ended up not filling it out. Which is a good thing b/c I didn't see any of those upsets coming!
I'm unhealthily curious as to when Fed's baby is due. Did they announce early and are expecting in late summer early fall? Or could this baby be coming sooner, like Wimby soon?
On a tennis note, why does Gulbis keep disappointing me? Andreev isn't a bad loss by any means but I keep waiting in vain for him to distinguish himself...

I thought this was a funny quote from Rog “For me, this is not a massive shock. But when it does happen (and) your girlfriend-wife is pregnant, it definitely changes your mind-set. All of a sudden you’re hoping everything goes well, whereas before you’re just joking about it. From that respect, I’m excited that the baby comes out healthy and everything goes OK. Other than that, it’s just happiness. And all the people around me, all the people I talk to, everybody is like, ‘Wow, it’s such great news.’
“It’s a nice time. And yeah, the baby is due in summer. Summer is a big word, yeah. I’m not going to say anymore.” Girlfriend-wife sounds so Big Love, like "sister-wife."

I thought Roger had let slip that the baby might come around Wimbledon time? Or maybe that was a writer's fantasy. I seized on it though, since my birthday is always around that time and I imagined sharing it w. Baby Fed
