I hope Mary Pierce has been getting tested regularly--if Roberto Alomar does indeed have AIDS, and if he did get HIV back when he was a teenager then that is sad, bad news for Mary.

I'm watching Tsonga and Nadal. Good match but am I ever noticing all of Nadal's rituals. It's really noticable because Tsonga doesn't seem to have any. The water bottles just so, the bananas just so, the jumping at the net, and of course the ass picking. He seems to be "adjusting" himself constantly now too. Did he always do that or is the change from the manpris to the shorts?
ETA - Just noticed when he eats the banana he doesn't just bite off a piece. He bites an angled piece on one side and then a matching angled piece on the other.
I know a lot of players have little rituals but does he have the most?

Hey. I do that when I eat a banana. I wouldn't call it a ritual though. I'd call it eating a banana. I also always eat two double stuff Oreos. I eat two of chocolate sides and then mush together the two creamy centers and make a giant stuff Oreo. Dang. Now I'm hungry.

It is frustrating to watch that part of Nadal's game. The rituals are just... there are many.
It is equally as frustrating seeimg people laugh when he has a pick at his ass, claim that he has a j-string on and then there am I trying to tell them that it's all habbit. Just like Roddick adjusts himself before every dam point!

Well, even though the semis for San Jose will be on my TV (on MSG for those who have that channel) I will not be watching Fish vs. Blake. Yuck. And the only thing that would save the other half of the draw is if Haas beats Roddick which I wouldn't hold my breath for. Oh well. Channelsurfing.net Rotterdam it is!

Oh boo! Who wants to watch a final with No Socks and The Worm? I am not going to sit through Fish and Stepanek. I wouldn't even no who to cheer for.

Wow- what a great win for Momo today- winning in three against JJ. Her old form was back. And she goes on to win the final against Dementieva. Her first title in like 2 years! It's really great to see her healthy and playing well again, I hope she can continue. I think her mom was in the crowd too, and I have never seen her before. Momo cried like she'd just won another major, and I'm really happy for her. Dementieva spoke excellent French during the trophy ceremony. I didn't realize she spoke anything other than Russian and English.

Double post, sorry, but it seems appropriate since it's a completely different topic. Has anyone been following the Shahar Peer situation? I think we had a discussion about the possibility of something like this happening when they announced that they were moving the YECs from Spain to Doha, and then again when Shahar announced plans to go to Doha for the regular season tournament last year. While I understand that there are legit grievances on both sides of this issue, I think the tournament's WTA tour event status should be yanked if they are not going to allow some tour players to play there purely based on the country they happen to be from. I suppose having a fairly high profile Isreali player there this soon after the war that occurred several weeks ago could present a security problem, but that hasn't been stated as the reason. Even if it was, I think part of the requirement for hosting a tour event should be that reasonable accommodations can be made to allow for participation by all eligible players, including when there are security concerns that arise through no fault of the player herself. It's interesting that 48 hours or more after that visa denial must have occurred, tournament directors seem to feel no obligation to offer a public explanation.

Falafaclese I'm thoroughly disgusted with the WTA. This is a shameful act by the host country but the powers that be are craven and venal. Which is one reason why their "roadmap" is so incredibly ridiculous.

I saw that. I had forgotten that the men's tournament was the following week. It's good that the ATP is making a statement. The more I think about it though, the more I think that this whole situation seems to be the fault of the ATP and WTA. It's not like this situation is a complete surprise. Did anyone from either tour think to look into whether the UAE government was going to allow Isreali athletes into the country to compete? As much as I disagree with the UAE's stance in this regard, it's not like their policy regarding allowing Jewish people into their borders is a new development. I mean, did the tours just see all those dollar signs and just hope for the best? Why take a stand now rather than before they agreed to allow this country to hold tour-sanctioned tournaments? I just don't get it.

Absolutely. I'm also pleased with the TTC's decision that Francie linked to. It looks like TTC guy was trying to cover for the WTA with his statement about how the WTA had been led to believe Peer would get a Visa but I understand why he said it--pissing off the WTA might not be a good idea and TTC got their point across by not airing the tournament.
The ATP and WTA should not hold tournaments in any country that prohibits any of the players to play. It's that simple. Keep religion and politics out of it by not playing where religion and politics cannot be avoided.
As for Dubai, did anyone see that the recession has hit what was thought to be recession-proof Dubai? I don't think that will affect the tournament but it is interesting.
