Monfils was driving me crazy today. Stepanek has an admirable game, and really gave Monfils trouble for a while, but Monfils got suddenly passive at the end of the second set and nearly let Stepanek run away with it, which he's more than capable of doing if you let him. I hope Roger Rasheed sits him down and tells him it will be all or nothing tomorrow, because if he gets tentative against Djokovic, it will be all over but the crying. Those two have a long history together apparently, so it could be an interesting match.

It almost played out that way fala down a set and a break Monfils found "it" and Nole started to think & we are on to a third!

Wow, this match got interesting! I thought it was all but over after that first set too!
Aww, boo! Double fault on match point, whata disappointing way to end a dramatic match.

Towards the end I wasn't sure what I wanted to happen (not a double fault though). I like Monfils but knowing he'd pass Tsonga as the top Frenchman with a win made me uncomfortable. And he would have gone to the YEC as an alternate instead of Tsonga. Of course I do wish it was Gonzo going, but oh well.
I didn't say it on Friday but I do want to put it out there: Thank you Beaker for helping Fer qualify. I do appreciate it.
Tonight at 9pm on TTC they are showing "The Andre Interview." I don't know if it will be hard-hitting, explanatory or not. But I will be watching. And can I say that I haven't had so many people ask to borrow a book when I am finished before.

LT you'll have to give us a review when you finish AA's book. I wasn't going to read it (David Foster Wallace has a pretty concise & hilarious take on sports memoirs, Austin's in particular, in Consider the Lobster. sigh. I really miss his work) but all the publicity has sucked me in. I won't pay for it & the wait at the library will be substantial so I might not get to read it until another tennis "scandal" is grabbing my attention!

Francie, it will probably be biased, but I'll be glad to give a review. I'm not reading it until I'm back from London. I want to go to the YEC with hearts and flowers in my heart--not feeling dark about tennis at all.
One of my co-workers just got back from a cruise that had ESPN from Europe instead of the US. He said tennis was all they were talking about. I told him the Paris event was a major tournament but you sure wouldn't know it from the sports news coverage here.

I just back from Vegas a few hours ago. I'm dead tird. I couldn't find coverage of the Paris Masters there anywhere so I had to wait until I cam home to find out the results.
I read Andre's book while I was there. I really did enjoy it. It didn't make me like Brad Gilbert and I agree whith whomever upthread that said Andre's portrayal of his relationship with Brooke was not good. She is portrayed for the most part as very shallow espcecially when compared to the great love of his life Steffi. Also interesting, Andre and Steffi were messing around behind the back of Steffi's six year boyfriend. The one person he had absolutely nothing good to say about was Conners.
It was a good book, but through much of the book I wanted to take Andre by the shoulders and shout "grow up". He seems to have spent much of his career whinning. I don't think on a personal level I would like him very much but I respect what he has done in the sport.

So I watched the TTC Agassi interview. Really? Are good journalists that hard to find? No follow up at all. She asks the question about drug testing but when Andre goes on and on about how great WADA is there is no follow up at all. The players hate WADA for, in my opinion, great reasons. Talk about that. UGH! TTC is doing a web chat with Andre Thursday at 1:15 pm ET. I think I might just have to post a question.

Tiki - very true about Gilbert. I had thought that maybe reading about him on a personal level might make me like him more but it just reinforced to me what an ass he is.

Roddick's not going to London so Soderling takes his place. Yay!

So the women's tour finished already? Why doesn't the men's tour finish at the same time anymore?

I don't know but it seems ridiculous. BTW that is Thanksgiving week here - a really bad time for American players. (Wonder if that had anything to do with Roddick pulling out?)
I am also away later that weekend, so if ESPN 2 doesn't show the final I'll have to watch it on Tennis channel repeat a couple of days later.

So the women's tour finished already? Why doesn't the men's tour finish at the same time anymore? Because the women's tour made good on their promises to shorten up the season, while the men's tour didn't. I had no idea how much the WTA had shortened its season until this last month. I'm disappointed for Roddick, but if he's not going to be there, at least Soderling gets a spot. Yikes, I can't believe I just said that. The draw for the WTFs will be done tomorrow.
