I wouldn't be surprised if Bodo incorrectly referred to the finals when relating that story. I find mistakes like that in his writing all the time. In fact, he's not the only blogger on that Tennis.com site in whose writing I have found mistakes.

Oh, can I rant on Bodo? Please?
He's like a lazy, crazy old uncle. He makes up crap to make his articles interesting. He expects people to lurve him and find him charming. I wrote a "counter-analysis" or just a contradiction of one of his articles once. Because he MADE THINGS UP.
He countered with a nitpick about one of my prepositions. I let him have it with both barrels. Not surprisingly, I was insulted by the members of his "tribe" on tennis.com. Well, not all of them. Others emailed me privately and told me I had to be nicer to Peter even when he was wrong because well...he's Peter.

Less ranty... I can listen to the BBC calling the Hewitt match at news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/7443880.stmIt doesn't work in Firefox but is fine with IE. The radio is just a couple of seconds ahead of the scoreboard for me.

I just looked at the Stella draws. Nadal is playing doubles with Mariano Hood. The name was familiar, but I couldn't quite remember. I googled... Argentine doubles player banned for substances in 2005. Interesting indeed. I was hoping for a Feli Lopez/Rafa pairing in doubles. 'Cause I'm pathetic If I recall correctly, he tested positive because he was using Rogaine or something similar. And it was iirc proven that he was using a hair loss prevention thing- so it seems like it wasn't a case where he was doping.

Hey, what happened to the Verdasco/Lee match? It was up on live scores (last I saw Verdasco was up a break 5-3 in the first) and now it's just gone. Nothing on the Artois site.

Thanks for the link lipstickand please feel free to rant about Bodo. He says some really out there things but I've never tried to jump into that fray. It seems as if he's very sensitive to the slightest bit of criticism real or imagined...

Yes, I've long since given up reading Bodo's writing. He reminds of Bud Collins; they have that trainwreck appeal of "What stupid thing are they going to say next?", but otherwise I'd rather ignore them.

I read a Bodo article in the last year and a half where he was discussing an upset over a top player by Stepanek, and he centered the premise of the essay on how nobody had ever heard of Stepanek. This was, IIRC, after Stepanek had made it into the top 10, had been dating Hingis, and had only dropped in ranking because of his back injury. Ever since then I read his articles with a fact checker's eye. I did, however, think he had an interesting insight into Ana Ivanovic.

How Marat is this match? Loses the first set by going down a break early and wins the 2nd 6-1. Hope he keeps that 2nd set form for the 3rd.

If I recall correctly, he tested positive because he was using Rogaine or something similar. And it was iirc proven that he was using a hair loss prevention thing- so it seems like it wasn't a case where he was doping. He had been taking Rogaine for several years, but didn't realize that an ingredient in it was added to the Prohibited Substances list in 2005, so never applied for the exemption he needed and then tested positive for it. www.itftennis.com/antidoping/news/pressrelease.asp?articleid=16253So Safin just breadsticked his opponent. The guy's never won anything and is ranked 495 in the world, but I'll take what I can get.

Hmm, Halle looks really weak this year. If Fed can't win Halle, I'm going to start worrying about his game before Wimbledon. Stepanek is the only player I could see beating Fed and he's on the other side of the draw.
Queens looks great, though. Roddick and Gasquet are coming back from injuries (or "injury" in Gasquet's case), Hewitt is still working his way back, Nadal and Djokovic should be tired from the French, and Nalbandian always has the possibility of catching on fire and blowing everyone off the court. Plus there are the dangerous floaters like Safin, Tipsy, etc.
The women just aren't as interesting, it seems. The three favorites on grass (Venus, Serena, Sharapova) are taking the 2 weeks off, so these results don't matter much for Wimbledon.

Thanks for the Hood information. I know Nadal plays the grass doubles just to get in more match time. He's not really results oriented for Artois.
Halle looks easy for Fed, but not as easy as Warsaw looks for Davydenko.
On Bodo, I HATE that he calls Nadal "JetBoy." HATEEEEEEEE. I am a Nadal fan (shocked, aren't you?), but I prefer Ass-Picking Bandito to JetBoy.
Oh, the BBC announcers just talked about Goran!!! I remember the final Goran won. I couldn't watch it, but I'd DVRed (wait, that was pre-DVR days, so I was VHS recording) it. I followed the thing online at work where I had to keep refreshing the page. Those were bad tennis following days for me. I loved the Gorans, good, bad and emergency.
